This was one of the best Logic Tutorials ever! Thank you so much. It helped me improve my own work soooo much!
So happy I was able to help!! More to come!
my buses disappeared in the mixer window
I always use this and if I remember I didn't set it up. The shortcut is shift+R.
Yeah - it's a game changer!!
Thanks 👍
My pleasure - look out for the other parts dropping soon!
Awesome video man! I'll save it to my playlist so I can rewatch it and start using Logic more to create music next summer holidays!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Thanks man! There are more in this series coming - also, I want to do that collab soon too - just moved, so things are a bit crazy!
Thank you, that was enlightening
You're very welcome! More to come!
That’s sooooo good and sooooo true!!
My brain is cursed - continually repeating whatever the last musical thing I heard - sounds like yours it too!
@ the audio memory is strong. Brother from another mother?
Ayy, thanks a lot!!!
You are most welcome! Glad I could help!!
How about a MIDI region?
I wish!! That is something I've been thinking about for years, being able to draw fades with the fade tool on midi. You can do it with automation (that is the level) but it is more cumbersome and you can also fake it with automation using pitch bend, but that is a stretch at best. My best advice if you want to do that with midi (kinda) is to bounce your midi tracks in place and add them back as audio. Anyway - hope this helps!!
Bro this was crazy!! Thank you!! 🔥🔥🔥
My pleasure! Coming very soon is a new series of videos making professional tracks from start to finish using only stock Logic sounds and plugins, so stay tuned for that! Thanks for commenting!!
Thanks for these great tutorials. Ok, so I did all of the changes in these tutorials. Having never worked on an analog system I am really struggling to see how the routing flow is. I'm so used to just leaving the tracks to stereo out, especially looking at all the other tutorials on youtube explaining busses. None of them change the out of each channel to a bus. Forgive my ignorance. I know this is going to work great, but I just need to see it in action, explaining the flow. I would so much appreciate another video taking all of this and seeing a real world example of using effects and how to route everything. I'm just an amateur but I have been on logic for a long time. I just need to see it in action. Thanks again.
Thanks for the comment! Here is a video I did on bussing where you can see this in action: ua-cam.com/video/dHH5Zti1hGE/v-deo.html Let me know if this helps!
Doesn’t explain the values he’s changing 11:45
Hey - thanks for pointing this out. I need to do a more extensive video on exactly how to tweak each parameter and what each parameter does. Thanks for the comment - I'll add this to the list!
Hey, that was really interesting!
Thanks Dave!!
Awesome story man! Inspiring🤘🤘🤘
Thanks! Great to see you here!
Killer story! Nice job, George...fun to hear that history and how it worked out!
Thanks for watching!!
Great info, thank you! Could you do a single mic or does this tuning work best with a stereo pair?
If you have a stereo pair, I would make sure they are at a 90 degree angle, but this technique is really to identify the problem frequencies in your room, so a single mic can do that. Thanks for commenting! Much more to come!
Hi George, I have some questions about the video, once you have the track complete, did you balance the levels track by track before bussing? , do you use EQ to clean tracks of non desired frequencies? , and what about stereo panning ?, the TABS mixing flow is amazing, in the video, with only compression the mix sounds very loud and clear!. Thank you so much for these videos👍👍
To answer your question, along the way I am balancing the tracks to work with the other instruments using the same bus. Then I balance the busses to work with each other in the mix. Yes, I definitely use EQ to minus undesirable frequencies. I pan on the track level (not the bus level) and yes, panning is key for separation. I'm so glad this is working for you - please feel free to ask any questions on this so I can help improve your workflow. All the best!!
This is a great video! It would be great if you could somehow upload a template with all of this already set up... I would love to use it for my next project!
Yes - I am working on that right now. Please come back soon as I will have an avenue for that very soon.
Template available now! Check out the video for the link.
Based on how sibilant your mic for this video is, I can't trust your advice on anything.
Well alright then - you are certainly entitled to your opinion. I don't equate my podcast mic dynamics to my nearly 30 years of experience creating music that hundreds of millions of people have heard. Perhaps you can move past the sibilance of the mic and actually listen to what I am presenting in the content and then comment. I'd love for you to do that and come back to me for a dialog. Thanks for commenting!
@@GGabrielMusic And you're welcome to keep piercing listeners ears because you can't hear that any more
Will do!
George! Good to see you man. Yeah, DMD should be called Barbie's Bashin Box or something. I did a deep dive on it a couple years ago. Blech. I noticed the same garbage on the channel strips. Noticed the same huge number of channel strips totally unnecessary. Who's nephew at Apple went to their uncle and said "now every sound needs a colored gif, a doily for the snare drum. Can we make the high hat lavender? Ooooo, I love lavender!" smh. After getting all the junk off of the channel strips I made about 10 kits from the huge amount of fluff apple gives you. Then I tested it out sonically and using samples imported. Blech again x1000. When you drag and drop samples onto it or import a whole kit of samples, DMD cuts the volume of all your samples in half. wtf. And the endless list of bad sounding samples THEY want you to use keeps popping up everywhere. Yikes. Last thing, the tone of it is just awful. DMD found a way to even make MPC samples sound bad. And that's pretty hard to do. Anyway keep up the good work man!
Rob! It is always good to see you and chat. I have been a little AWOL because I moved across country and just getting back into it on high speed. Your commentary is hilarious! Always an entertaining discussion with your insights on reality. I'll be back with tons more stuff in the coming weeks. Look forward to more 'how it really is' dialog with you in the near future!! Cheers my friend!
Great video! They don’t sound “real” maybe but they no longer sound distractingly fake.
HAHA! Yeah, that is the point I think, we are all sound designers of sorts and the more we can design ok samples to sound more real, then that separates us from the average joe just dialing up what Logic gives you stock. Thanks for commenting!
When I select an area with the marquee tool, it doesn't refocus my cycle. When I press play it only plays once the selected area, but I find it useful that way.
Yeah - results may vary depending on your settings. It really is how and if the tool is working for you, and if it is - then by all means, use it! Thanks for commenting!
@@GGabrielMusic Thanks
Thanks George. Heaps help.
My pleasure - much more to come!
Really great tutorial - just duplicated your set up and compared it to what was my favourite string ensemble - which now sounds totally dull and lifeless in comparison to this mega-patch! I have learned so much from this video - thank you.
So happy that I could help! Lot's more videos on morphing Logic sounds to sound pro. Thanks for commenting!!
Thanks George! I Followed your procedure and it sounds amazing. Ran it through 6 speakers and it feels like I’m in the orchestra pit! Thank you. Please keep up the great work!!✌️
Amazing! I love it when it all comes together. Thanks for commenting!
Bro, you’re just mad that you’re going to be out of a job. You clearly don’t know how to use the plug-in. As a self taught amateur musician, my mixes have been taken to the next level with mastering assistant. I have song’s i wrote and recorded using a cheap $100 Boss mini guitar amp and a directional mic, that sound better than professionally produced song in that style, if mastering Assistant is doing for me I’m cool with it
Thanks for commenting! Nah, I won't be out of a job, I know how to use the plugin and I have no doubt this improved your mixes taking them to the next level as an amateur. That said, when you look to recording from a holistic perspective using the tried and true techniques that all of the major records are using today (from recording to mixing and mastering), and getting a hold of those techniques, you can take yourself out of the amateur standing to a whole other level. Keep commenting and watching!
thank you
My pleasure - much more coming soon!
Great video, so helpful ❤
Great - glad it was helpful to you! More to come!
Wah... Brilliant...
Thanks so much!
This was incredible. Thank you SO MUCH!
My pleasure! Much more to come!
Hey, I'm a Logic user since before Apple bought the German company Emagic (remember? “Emagic Logic Audio Platinum”) When it comes to mix enhancement, that is, mastering, I use external equipment, not plugins. I agree with this video. I don't think that a really laborious task like the mastering process can be solved in a moment by inserting an “assistant” or a wizard. Greetings from Hamburg, Germany.
Thanks for commenting! Yes, I remember good ‘ol Emagic - I started using Logic in 1994 when they had a serial dongle to use it. I too used to use external equipment to master, but since I work in TV, I had too many mixes that I had to recall and had to start taking pictures of my gear to get back to what it was on that mix. I was using a Manley Massive Passive EQ and an SSL G-Series compressor - when UAD came out with those plugs, I ditched the real gear for the plugs. I will say, even though the plugs are great, nothing compares to real gear. I appreciate you weighing in! Come back for more. I will launch a much greater effort in the coming months as I have just moved and I am setting up my new studio, so stay tuned!! Thanks!!
A tutorial on mixing and mastering a full rap song would be amazing !! Your videos are very helpful 💪

My pleasure!! Much more to come on improving Logic sounds!
Thanks for this. It was very helpful. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
My pleasure - lots more with Logic only sounds to come!
Man this is my third question for this video. I am mixing a track and I remembered this video and went back to rewatch. You have Busses as Stereo. I have been mixing my kick and snares Mono so would I have a Drums Stereo and a Drums Mono (9 busses)? Or should I stop mixing them in Mono. I found a technique where I put my Mono Drum tracks in Binaural Pan and drag that dot dead center. It really smacks those drums. Reasonable technique or trash?
It’s a personal preference. I use stereo because even if everything is recorded in mono, our ears are stereo and a mono signal will still be mono on a stereo bus. As far as the binaural trick, if you feel it’s working and there are no issues of phasing or anything then that’s fine but be aware, the binaural panner uses filtering and other time-based techniques that may alter the sound of the kick, thus giving you that new sound. That could be a good thing or it could be a bad thing.
@@GGabrielMusic Sound is a very fluid concept. I was born with a couple of issues one of which is a hearing anomaly that doesn't allow me to hear much above 5400. So I put a self made EQ that attenuates everything above 5400. It's not an exact science but my wife hears bug farts so I run things by her especially that hats. In that area do you have a rule of how loud hats should be in the mix? I mean if you kick and snare is -12 the hats should be -18? Thanks for your videos.
Hey - so sorry for the late reply on this - my general mix rule is lowering the entire mix so I can just barely hear it fully, then I mix my hi-hats and high frequency instruments based upon that mix. I know with your hearing anomaly that may present a problem and I never really did a db difference test on that, but the thing with things like hi-hats, is they are fast - they rise and fall quickly and they also occupy a frequency range that is outside of the bulk of the rest of the track. That makes a simple db difference a hard thing to figure out - I think it is the right approach with your hearing anomaly and I would start with a cut of 6 db, but you may need to cut is much as 12 or 18 db depending on the track. I'd be happy to listen to one of your tracks and give you my assessment. If you are interested, let's figure out a way where I can get that from you. Thanks for the dialog!
@@GGabrielMusic Thanks for this reply but you already replied 2 months ago.
Good stuff! Can you do a tutorial on how to use the side chain aux channels?
Yes I can! I’m in the middle of moving, so once I get settled in I’m going to ramp up this page big time and your video will be made! Thanks for your patience!
Thanks George! Very helpful tutorials
Excellent advice, thank you for making this video as well as your other ones. Encouragement is so important especially coming from industry professionals!

Hiw do I make 48kh the default?
To make 48k the default, go to File>Project Settings>Audio and you can set it there. Thanks for the question!
just a quick correction for the Mastering Assistant: Turning on and of the EQ of the mastering assistant goes via the fader on the left. The knob you used to turn it on and off is for the custom EQ you can adjust yourself. If you want to use the mastering assistant without its EQ , turn the fader completely down. You will then see the EQ flat. Great video!
Yes - you are correct and I knew that, but misspoke in the video. I appreciate the correction!
Excellent! Thank you!
My pleasure! Lots more to come with Logic sounds....
Still love the way you do this tutorials...fast and spot on!
Thanks so much!!
One minor suggestion would be to change the permissions on the autoload file when done to read only so it doesn't accidentally get overwritten. When you need to make changes to the template, just change it back temporarily to read and write.
That is a good suggestion. Sometime I forget that I am in the AutoLoad and start recording audio then realize it is adding the audio to the AutoLoad audio folder. I have backups of my AutoLoads in case. But your suggestion is a good one! Thanks for the comment!
Where you suggest the fader levels be set initially? I noticed that the busses in this video are set to -12, but in the autoload series I believe they were set at 0 unless I missed something.
I set all my busses to -12. If you set them at zero, you'd blow up the stereo out. When I have a very full mix, some of my busses may end up at -18 or even lower. Thanks for the question!!
Probably similar to remixing the trout with Samsung, Eh G?
I didn’t know what you were talking about so I looked it up - yeah, I guess it’s similar - never saw that before so I guess it’s a thing….
I used Strip Silence a couple of times, but forgot about it (because I usually use MIDI drums and bass, or record other things with headphones), and forgot there was an easy-to-remember key command ( ^X ). Thanks!
Yeah - I sometimes forget things that Logic can do too! Then I’m like, oh yeah - that would be much easier to do it this way…. Then I forget again 😂
Honestly a banger
Ha! Thanks - wait for the next one..
