A quick trip collecting seashells
Переглядів 27510 місяців тому
A quick search sea shells on the coast in the intertidal zone. Today we went to a different than usual location with nice views, but not too many shells as the tide was not very low and the surf was rough. Yet we manage to find some cowries and other shells, but no live ones this time.
Seashells and life in rock pools - a shelling adventure

We find many seashells, especially West Pacific cowries, both empty shells and alive, crawling in the rock pools. There is a great variety of life on the rocky shore if you look carefully.

Looking for sea shells along intertidal rock platforms and rock pools. On this beach exploration I found not one but two Staphylaea limacina cowries, one of which was really great! Subscribe if you'd like to keep updated with new uploads.
Shelling at low tide | Soldier cone, ovulid and other sea shells

Finding sea shells at low tide in the intertidal zone. This video was filmed at two different beaches on the same day. There were many amazing shells to be found including cowries, cone snails and an awesome shell belonging to the ovulidae family. The best in my opinion being the soldier cone (Conus miles) which don't seem to wash up as often as other conidae.
Shelling in strong winds for seashells at low tide

The beach was rough today, with 45 km/hr winds, a strong swell and only a little bit of rain. But that didn't stop us from finding some great West Pacific seashells including but not limited to cowries, volutes and a nice venus clam.

Hunting sea shells on the coast in the intertidal zone. I find a mostly intact tun shell, a broken bailer shell :( and some West Pacific cowries.
Best shelling finds of 2022

In this video I take a look at some of the most interesting Australian seashells I found last year. Although not an exhaustive list, these are the most memorable and exciting finds for me, featuring many cowries and my only nautilus! Which one was your favourite?
Searching for seashells and snorkelling

It was a rough and windy day. I explored rock pools and dived into the water in search of seashells and animals. The conditions made it difficult to find much, but I did come across some excellent cowries and plenty of life including sea snails, fish and sea urchins.
Searching for seashells after tropical cyclone | Intertidal shelling
Переглядів 4,5 тис.Рік тому
A tropical cyclone has recently passed through the Coral Sea, providing an opportunity to seek out seashells washed up by the swells along intertidal rock platforms and rock pools. It was a good day for cowries, with the sea delivering the first Staphylaea limacina cowrie of the year. Turn on captions for some extra commentary.

do u bring the seashells home? what do u do w them
@AverageAufa Yes, but only some of them. I leave a lot at the beach. The ones in good condition, that I like, get added to my collection.
Such beauties you found!!! 🥰 Which beach did you go?? Ta
Thank you, this was on the sunshine coast in Australia.
癒やされます❤
Thank you!
Hello, I think you live in Australia from seeing the seashells you find. Love the sound of the waves.
@trudymcewen9801 Yes, you are right. Thanks for watching!
私の地域では、財布にいれとくとお金が貯まるお守りとされる貝です😍
Thank you for watching!
綺麗な海と貝✨
Thank you!

Such amazing finds! 😍
Thanks for watching! :)
So many lovely Arabians, both live and empty! Wonderful Textile find, and that Stolida looked awesome too! I think you had a very good time in the rock pools 🤩 Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Maddie! There were quite a few of them and only one eglantina. Thanks for watching!
@@Notophys Sounds about right... well, for me anyway; I never see anywhere near as many Eglantinas as Arabicas!
Such a cutie 🐌💖
lovely 😊all your videos
Thank you!
I love your videos because I can learn from them, thank for share with us . Greats from Nicaragua, Central America
Thank you so much for watching! Glad you find them informative.
Haii my friend. Greats. I like your video. Salam saya dari indonesia memiliki video yang menarik juga untuk di tonton tentang laut kerang
Thank you, glad you enjoyed, and thanks for watching!
Hey Notophys 👋🏻 Wow, it looks like you had a great time in the rock pools 😮 loved that Limacina, it looks fantastic! The clandestine with those lovely zigzags on the side it also a really awesome find. Really loved seeing all of the shells you found today, it makes me want to rush out there ASAP! Thanks for sharing 🐚🤩
Hey, thanks so much! Yes it was a great day, very lucky with some excellent shells! There's always something cool to find
Mình Chúc bạn luôn luôn mạnh khỏe nha ❤
Thank you very much!
Ok ❤️❤️💋🌹🌹🌹
Hi, I love all the shells you have found, I really struggle to name my favourite.......hmm, maybe the Soldier Cone. Your video would be even more enjoyable to watch if you could add a little bit of soothing background music, hope you don't mind my very personal opinion. Thank you for sharing with us your amazing finds.
@FlorenceSheung Thank you for watching, it was my favourite also! Yes I could add music, I'm not sure what people would prefer... voice over, music or just silence and the sound of the waves.
@@Notophys Soothing music, your gentle voice, silence and the sound of waves are all very nice. Please decide according to your mood.
OHHH you didn't close up the textile or captain cones. 😔
@jkperdue1109 Yes unfortunately not, and that is because I left them at the beach. I don't take the broken or worn shells, only the really good ones which is maybe 1/4 of what I pick up to show. If I find a good one then I will make sure to do a close up!
Wow! Very nice shells!! Love your video.
Thank you !
素敵💕
I enjoy collecting shells but don’t live near a beach. Most of my shells I’ve gotten in FL or Cape May, NJ. I enjoyed your video and the way you are showing the shells & the names of them. Thank You!
Thank you for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I don't have many shells from the US, but it's interesting to see shells from different places.

looking for clams at low tide. good job friend
@JhonDiamond2021 Thanks for watching!
Wow, the weather was crazy! I hope you didn’t slip on the rocks with all the recent rain. You found some absolutely lovely shells while the crowds were away; that labrolineata really stand out to me, I almost never see a shiny on of those! Thank you for braving the wind and rain to find some goodies to share with us 🐚🤩
@SandCoffeeRocks Thank you for watching!! Yes the conditions weren't ideal, the ocean side was nothing but foam. I was surprised by that cowrie too, at first I thought the top was worn down but it actually turned out great. They are always missing some spots.
The sea and waves are beautiful even under such grey sky. Glad you found beautiful shells in such weather. The Cleotrivia globosa looks very lovely. Look forward to seeing your whole shell collection one day. Thanks for sharing.
@FlorenceSheung Thank you! It is very beautiful, more dramatic I think with the large waves and dark clouds. Yes my collection might make a good video/s, if people are interested ( I guess at least one!), there is much more variety than what I find at the beach.
Hi, I loved watching this video! I may have missed something, but where were you shelling here? I am new to shelling, and don't live near the ocean, but I really love shells of any kind, and I love watching shelling videos. Thank you so much for sharing, I have just subscribed today.
@beckysmith7142 Hi, glad you loved the video. This one was in Queensland, Australia, so these are all West Pacific shells, but many are found elsewhere in the Indo-Pacific. Some of my other videos are filmed in New South Wales. You're welcome, thanks for subscribing and watching!
All the shells you have found are beautiful, especially that Beer-barrel Tun. It was lovely watching the waves, the rocks and the sea too. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching! Glad that you enjoyed, the tun shell was very exciting to find.
Excellent 👌
That’s a very good to find
Thanks for watching!
The tun and trumpet are beautiful. The cowries are very beautiful as well. Thank you for you video
@tonistephic Thanks for watching!
Lovely finds! You had an amazing day shelling; that Tun is gorgeous, I’m a bit jealous 😮! I also loved the snakeheads you kept, and the big cowries, wow! Thanks for sharing 🤗
@SandCoffeeRocks Thank you for watching!! Yes its hard to find them whole isn't it, especially larger ones.
Omgosh such good finds! New follower here. I'm learning the names. Just to enjoy watching and collecting myself 😊
Thank you, glad you enjoyed!
Aslında şuan Allah'ın yarattığı hüzelliklere bakıyoruz....
Wonderful shells 🐚.
Thank you for watching!
@@Notophys you're welcome.
Is that different from a sea hare. Looks same.
Yes they are different, from completely different families even. But they do look similar.
Just love those live Brown paper-lined bubble shells. So delicate
I will subscribe if you put the common names of seashells. I am a professional collector and I like the common names. Mostly people who sell shells use the science name.
I know the Arabian and some others because I own them in my collection.
Hi Trudy, thanks for watching! I usually do include a common in other videos if the shell has one.
Enjoyed your show today thank you so much. Be careful with those textiles 🌊
Thank you, glad you enjoyed! I will.
I also love your chill voice, I could listen to it all day 😎 You’re much better with the scientific names and shell location records than I am! I really love your collection of 2022 shell finds, they are so impressive! I especially loved the Cauricas - I’ve never found one in such good condition. The money cowrie and Hunter Volute were also a big favourite with me, I’ve still not found one of those. Liked the little blue cowrie as well; great shape, and for me as well, I’ve noticed that any dark ones will rapidly go lighter after I take them out of the water (same with some erosas and wandering cowries too). I was surprised that you didn’t have an Erosa or Donkey to show us, though they tend to be a bit harder to find glossy. I was also incredibly surprised by your lovely Nautilus 😮such a lucky score, I bet you were over the moon to grab that one up!! The pattern on it is so vibrant… I don’t know if you think this is, like, horrendously wrong, but would you ever consider cleaning/smoothing up the edges of the Nautilis with a rotary tool? It would take away from it though, but might make the shell look more whole in a way? I also loved seeing all the Zoila shells in the background; what a great collection! Thanks for sharing them with us!
Thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed them! Yep, caurica are hard to find with all the speckles, but I'm sure you will find one like that soon! I do have a few great erosa but wasn't sure if they were interesting enough for the video without making it too long. That's also why I didn't show any snakeheads or gold ring cowries. I've been pretty unlucky with donkey cowries on the other hand, but hopefully I'll find a perfect one eventually. The nautilus was such a suprise! I was basically floating down the beach after that. I did think about smoothing the lip of the nautilus so the shape is nicer but so far have decided not to. Oh I'm surprised you noticed the Zoila! I thought they would make a nice background, I might make videos about them and some other things from my collection in the future. Thanks for watching!
I found a nautilus shell washed up on the Sunshine Coast 2 weeks ago. Just curious how you cleaned yours up? Mine was covered with some barnacles and seaweed.
Hi Sharon, wow great find, was it still very intact? Yes, this one was completely covered with all kinds of growth as well, I didn't even recognise it was a nautilus for a few seconds. Just water and some scrubbing took off most of the seaweed and algae. Then for the harder encrusted growth I used a small knife, just with some gentle pressure almost all of it flaked away from the shell pretty nicely but it did take me a couple hours as I was being careful not to scratch the shell underneath. There may be easier ways, but it worked for me, hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
@@Notophys Yes still intact and a great specimen. Similar structure to yours.
Goodness me, all your shells are so very beautiful. If I really have to name one, I will be struggling between Aplustrum amplustre and Conus coronatus. Hard to remember these scientific names though. By the way, you have a lovely quiet voice.
Thank you very much!! Yes both are really beautiful, I really like the contrasting colour pattern of the royal paper bubble. Yes the names can be difficult! I usually put up a common name too
@@Notophys Hi again, Paper Bubble is nice, the Royal paper bubble is really stunning. I can also imagine the joy you had when you found the Nautilus shell, it must be much more exciting to find one than to buy one. The background music in your video is nice too. Can I just add a little suggestion if you don't mind - it would be lovely if you could let us have an overview of all your beautiful shells first before you go into detail with each one, you have really tested my patience. Sorry if I have sounded a bit blunt.
@@FlorenceSheung Thanks for the feedback! Yes I will make sure to do that in the future for these kinds of videos, not sure if it makes sense for the shelling videos (maybe an overview at the end?).
@@Notophys That would be nice. Keep up the good work. Look forward to seeing another video from you soon.
Congrats on the nautilus shell. Great info and shells Can you tell me why I have seen silver only nautilus shells? Are they painted.... just wondering.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. They aren't painted, the outer layers of the shell have been removed and then polished to expose the inner nacre which is silver and iridescent, but you're right it's not natural.
@@Notophys oh thank you. That has had me wondering. Now I know, thanks again.
Where are you shelling?
This video is in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia. Thanks for watching!
Love this content :)))
Lovely finds!! That big green turbo shell is amazing 😍 congrats!
Thanks so much! Yes it was a surprise to find, I don't see many.
I'm enjoying your videos! You find a ton of great shells :D and if you happen to see a chubby lady with a black long-sleeved sun protection shirt on, be sure to say hello to me!~
Thank you so much, I will keep an eye out!
I didn't mention it before, but I also loved the Opalia australis - I've never seen one of those wentletraps before!
Yes it's quite pretty! I was suprised to find it.

I might do narration for future videos, thank you for watching!
Thanks for identifying the shells, very interesting.
