The Rise of Darkrai is my favorite movie, but honestly, for me, it includes the 2 movies after it because they connect and the pokemon remember Ash. I don't know why, but when pokemon remembers, it just makes the movie(s) better

i think my first pokemon movie as a kid was the celebi one and it was so amazing to me it turned into a core memory im pretty sure i was like 2-4 years old when i watched it on tv

only 16 minutes in, but I will say celebi, time travel baddie, is notorious for being a glass canon and gets it's ass beat in most movies it's in, since it relies more on the protection of those it helps

Ah yes, I Choose You, The Power of Us, and Secrets of the Jungle. AKA, the New Generation Scarring Trilogy (Luxray freezing to death, Snubbull dying in a fire, Koko's parents getting in a car crash, dragging themselves away from the wreck and dying shortly after, like fuck me!!) My favorite is Power of Us, I bought it on DVD, that's how much I loved it.

For the dvd release of Lucario and the mystery of Mew, there was a bonus movie for the 10th or 15th anniversary and had Ash and co get invited to some science guys place and the guy kidnaps pikachu and is like holy crap you’ve seen every legendary Pokémon wtf is your life. Then he creates holograms of said legendarys for Ash and co to fight

It’s quite incredible that Gen 6 one of the best anime seasons has such terrible movies while Gen 5 one of if not the worst seasons of the anime has incredibly consistent and good movies (yes the Keldio one isn’t that great but the others are).

When watching the Jirachi movie i was really confused over why the dude wanted to revive an ancient monster. Like, what did he think was gonna happen. Big surprise, when Groudon shows up the dude realizes it's an ancient monster that destroys everything, and he regrets all his life choices.

The gen 1 to gen 4 movies were my absolute favorite! I used to have a cd with all the movies and would binge it when I was alone in the house

the one thing about Power of Us’s art style that I could never get past is that Ash’s eyes are too far apart. It was weird lol. I love it otherwise. Also it’s just SUUUUUCH a good movie. It’s one of the few Pokémon movies I’ve seen but it’s definitely my favorite. From the Sudowoodo to Zeraora, I love it so much. (except maybe detective Pikachu, but I know that one’s the outlier.)

I appreciate the Lucario movie for what it did to Ash. While sense contained, the anime continued to allude to his abnormal aura after this. Interactions with Riolus and Lucarios especially.

I hard agree with you on the power of us. I came in not expecting much since imo the anime fell off after gen 6, but then I watched the movie and it was quite possibly my favorite of them all. They just did everything nearly perfectly. My only potential complaint is that like in gen 7 they didn't keep ash's anime companions around, but that's a non issue in this movie wince these characters were so much better than Goh could ever be. I will say, Callahan is the best character without a doubt, way better than Risa.
