Cello Prelude BWV 1007 - For guitar Solo - Amalio Burguet "Maestro" guitar
I had to add a video on this guitar but the time schedule was
already overruled. I will come up with a better played version.
Of course an iconic composition from J.S.Bach ment for Cello
but good pieces of music in fact can be played on almost any
instrument to my opinion.
I particularly like the products coming out of the A. Burguet
lutherie as quality is one of the premium goals of this firm.
As with a lot of other luthiers in Spain that have more models
in their collection, some models have been discontinued and
among them this one: The "Maestro" model. There are simila-
rities with the 1A model but the "Maestro" in fact was two
models higher. And even differences are there between two
of the same models by this maker along the timeline, often
resulting in some simpler executed details in later models.
Therefore each example has to be assessed on its' own
qualities. Reason that I always like to have a guitar in my
hands before I buy one.
Though I would like to keep the guitars I owe in my possession,
I simply have collected too many. Most of the time some
technical corrections (fretwork) are necessary but that is no
problem for me to solve and give them back a new life!
Other guitars can be looked at on my Blog:
www.greatguitarsshop.blogspot.com
Feel free to ask some information and/or pictures from those
presented there though a lot has been told there already. The
audio example from this one is already here!

To be honest the guitar player in the band of Sting, Dominic Miller, the guitar player in the band of Sting, also attributed to this song. There was already a nice solo version of this song here, made by a Japanese player who's name I couldn't find. It was my starting point for my transcription and I've added the B- part as that was missing to my opinion. That starts at 1:55. Curious always rem...

This piece remains a difficult one and you have to keep it in your rehearsing scheme for a longer time. I will come up with a better one in the future. This version has been adapted a bit here and there to give it an even more "rolling" effect to my opinion. The piece has been shortened a bit in a sense that the first part hasn't been played twice. As it returns later in his composition I figur...

Always curious how certain Luthiers are doing their job, this rather unknown luthier from England gives us a lot to enjoy so to say. Rich low ends in this guitar combined with a nice separation which isn't always the case in this combination. John, I do not know if you are still active or even alive but I really do enjoy your work. As the melody of the Prokofiev part has been played on the lowe...

This model is richer in ornamentation as the model B50 made nowadays. Wether if there are internal construction differences I'm not able to tell you alass... Iconic composition of course from Luis Bonfa and there are already different guitar solo executions here on UA-cam. But it is really suited to present this guitar built in the neighbourhood of Alicante and not Valencia as I'm wrongly stating in my comments. All solid materials and a really nice instrument and in fact comparable with an Alhambra 7 or 8 model. Sold, but several other guitars have...

This song has been transcribed more often but one way or another I missed the dissonance in the accompanying chords here and there. It was a challenge and to be honest it still is. The transcription I made is not that easy but in fact it shouldn't be a goal when you want to make a proper version. So I'm still working on it for myself to make it possible to play it "clean'. But I can already giv...

Just another take from the song as one chord in the first version in fact has been wrongly played (grrr). I used after my search for a nice version Dirk Mündeleins version of this song. Thanks for that and listeners, please check it! I've added some more classical elements and an extra ending to it. I hope you like it!

Russians is more than just another composition from Sting in these times. For that reason I at first had the idea to transcribe it for guitar solo but by looking on you tube I found out there were already several good transcriptions around of this song. I especially liked the Dirk Mundelheim version of this song. I've adapted it here and there to give it a slight more classical approach but not...

A well known but beautiful piece of music that I just studied recently to be honest. For other guitarists I've avoided the pull off binding in measure 6 by playing the first chord there in the 7th position. When your fingers are too short you have to invent something! I think this piece has often been played too slow as the tempo says "moderato". But I'm still in the race to get it to more perf...

Casa Garrido was a Madrid based shop that had different luthiers working for them. Among them was Modeste Borreguero, probably the least well known classical guitar builder among the big three: Santos Hernandez and Fabio Simplicio though there were of course more very fine luthiers in the past century. A certain period was however dominated by these three. As this Casa Garrido guitar is from 19...

I have a Cashimira 145c too! but my label on the inside has a another marking also. I wonder if you might be able to help me identify it??
You can always mail me at acakoevoets@kpnmail.nl though this guitar is not in my possession anymore. If you would like to sent me some pictures of the guitar (apart from the label) I'll probably be able to tell you a bit more.
I have a Juan Estruch a 12 string classical i wish i could play like you!
This piece would be much harder on a 12 string. Maybe buy a 6 string Estruch guitar and try again. You will succeed in the end!
This is definitely the best version of this song arranged for guitar. Thank you very much for sharing it!
Thank you Alexandru. Keep me informed how things are going around studying this version. Problems? Just let me know.
You sir are a master
That's a rather big qualification. But thanks anyway.
Me encanta ver la habilidad con la que usted toca cada tema, he seguido su canal y me entretiene mucho
Gracias por tus elogios y es bueno saber que estás disfrutando de mis videos.
Wonderful performance. Thanks!!
Thank you! I appreciate that.
Well done Sir
I''m still a bit older but still learning!
Great song and a great version, can you maybe share me the tab? That would be great 😃
Just e-mail me on acakoevoets@kpnmail.nl. All the best, Noud
Fantastic! Loved this.. Great playing! I have a Model 130 I've owned for a few years. It always amazes me how full sounding it is, very resonant. Did you sell the guitar? Thanks for the video.
Indeed a very good guitar. But having too many in my collection I decided to sell this one and that is what happened. Still buying and selling guitars with the goal in mind to get experience with the work of a lot of luthiers as they are all different in approach, sound and playability. I do not have to own that many guitars but it is nice to have experience with the different brands and makers.
Oh hell try to tune the guitar or just dont play at all. Disgusting.
A really beautiful rendition of the classic song , never cared for the horn section on Mason's studio version myself! Well done
Thanks!
For an old guy this is a pleasure. Thank you
Same thing counts for me. That's where it all started for me regarding more classical oriented music!
Thank you for sharing your great talent.
Thank you for your compliment but it is not great talent. Rehearsing in the right way is one thing. Listening to a variety of players is another one and I think having played for years in a professional band educated me as well. Getting older helps and brings rest and patience in your life.
Thank you
Grest music and excellent played and great interpretation 🎶🎸congratulations Thanks for sharing Greetings have a good weekend
Thank you, Lucy (I presume?)
An excellent performance of my very favorite instrumental piece. I've listened to hundreds of covers of this music but just didn't seem to perfect the Mason Williams sound... Until you. Thank you for sharing your talent. ♥️♥️♥️
Well Nena, That's a big compliment! Thanks a lot!
I was raised in that song I Texas in the 60s
For me the same. One of the first singles I bought!
That guitar is great! I have the 1920 strung with Aquila Ambra 800 tuned to pitch 432hz and the sound is pleasantly wonderful with very quick response and long sustain. I think your guitar being 20 years older may even have better sonority.
It doesn't have to do anything with age. I still posess a Salvador Ibanez e Hijos guitar more modest than this one but better in sound. And that is one from after 1915. The history around these instruments is what is making them wanted. I owe a Vicente Arias from 1899 that is a real find so to say. In the premier league! Same with a 1917 Julian Gomez Ramirez that has outstanding sound qualities as well. The latter I still have to present here on UA-cam.
@@2011Noud Looking forward to listening to your V Arias 1899. I hope you strung it with gut strings as they did in the those years. thanks.
@@montyl To be honest, no I didn't restrung the Vicente Arias but it is wise for everyone owing an older instrument not to use high tension strings. B.t.w. I already placed some older video's with my V. Arias guitar here.
well done
Thank you, John!
Not bad
Sometimes a lot of comments are without any criticism. For some people maybe nice to hear and read but I like an objective approach. And this one is from the negative side. When something says it is "not bad" it means for me there is a lot still to desire for ?
@@2011Noud I'm sorry if your ego got hurt by my average, but not mean opinion. I can give you my opinionated criticism though if you like? Problem is, even though it's not bad, you're ego still wants and expects to feel as though you wrote this and I've never heard 20 or more recitals of a piece played exactly the way it was written by 20 different people, all trying to sound exactly the same. You can either play it fluently or practice to improve with experience to sound the same as everybody else in your class. Personally I prefere to be out of that training box of discipline clones. Try it sometime. It's really fun and helps with creativity and your mood will change for the better too. Play it Tommy's way or throw some of your own bits in. Cut your nails live a little, become a rebel Get a little Lucy and rock it out on a Gibo Page style? Creative shitzngigz. Curious... Would you play Cavatina how it was originally written by Stan or play it the only way it's played good and made sense? The Master Williams corrected way.
@@wallywalpamur4960 I think to understand what you mean. When I want to wander around in a musical sentence I rather improvise than hold on to notes that indeed everybody is able to play. As for classical pieces: To the majority of the audience they will be played similar. It is often about small pauses played. The"in between moments" that often can make it more magical. These differences can be so slight.... Apart from all that I' consider myself just a guitar player who worked hard to reach a certain level. No more than that. But there is one thing that likely sets me apart from a lot of "copyists" so to say: As I played for more than 40 years in a band keeping and holding a good tempo is something a player should go for. No matter what genre of music. That's the fundament of playing and making music to me. I will probably (most likely) die but that rhythm clock keeps ticking, even then!
@@2011Noud All good, I get it. And Cavatina? Have you ever noticed in just that one part where that 1 bass note is missing and does not sound right in not only the original how it was written but a majority of players repeat as if it's sounds right because that's how he wrote it..and then when John Williams plays it, it's fixed and so is some anxiety? lol. There might be Julian Bream version which is played better like John Williams version perhaps?
@@wallywalpamur4960 Having a good idea in harmonics is another quality a guitar player can have but not necessarily. I myself am very keen on harmonics (coming from my long career as an electrical guitar player in a band) So sometimes even in some classical compositions I might change some, or most of the time, a single note because "it doesn't make sense" You should hear the criticisms fellow classical guitar players then have...
Well played!!!
Thank you Jennifer!
A nice take on this piece. Composed by Dominic miller of course. Sting wrote the words. I just found you. Love your work. Thank you.
It was well worth it to add a third piece to it. A Japanese version is also on UA-cam. Certainly well played but that part is missing (from 1:58 onwards) to my opinion. And I even added in a final stage some extra bars (not presented here yet...)
@@2011Noud yes. DM plays the basic arrangement ie without melody and ofc with his touch it stands alone. I do like how you have stayed true to the original AND insert the melody. I had also found a version I think from a Brazilian guy which I will try and refind. It’s great to share these things as music can unite us in this troubled world. And it’s about playing pieces that reflect ourselves and all the influences we find inside. Not just trying to replicate and copy. Regards. Dominic
Nice work on a wonderful piece! Thank you for the efforts invested in bringing it to us!
You're welcome of course and thanks for your compliments.

Who did this song first ? Eric Clapton or mason williams ?
Mason Williams for sure.
Bravo. A wonderful rendition of a classic.
Thank you. But there are plenty of others that are very good. It is interesting however to hear it on a guitar Mason Williams also used.
@@2011Noud Though you are right about there being many excellent versions, in your case it's the guitar itself that makes all the difference. For me, music isn't only about the finished song, but how it got there and the history behind it. Over sixty years ago, my mother instilled in me why it's always important to experience the big picture when she played her favorite Big Band and jazz albums. What a joy it must be to play Mason's guitar. Mom taught me unique ways to appreciate music from a very early age. I love the back-stories and the inspiration behind my favorite music.
Absolutely beautiful!
After the rubato intro on the record don't you hear a 12-string?
Not on my recording. That's for sure. Do you mean the original recording made by Mason Williams?
@@2011Noud Yes, on the original record. I play the piece and happen to know Mason as well. Also happy to hear you're playing Mason's original arrangement without the Mike Post 8-bar interlude. And your playing is letter-perfect.
I do believe that Mason Williams would approve. Excellent presentation of this classic.
I hope so but he once stated that he is proud of having composed the most executed popular instrumental of the last 70 years.... And he can be proud of that to my opinion.
One very tough piece to play, excellent job my man
What to think about the third part of Barrios' Cathedral? Just have a listen to Celil Refik Kaya: 4 amazing performances. He is one of the best! But thanks for your compliments anyway.
Bravo! I’ve had this down about half way through, then inexplicably set the guitar down, and never finished. I wonder, should I ???
After about halfway there are not that big challenges to overcome. Just give it a try and you'll be rewarded! A lot of people like tis song and most likely including you! Good luck.
Thank you for this greatest guitar solo ever. I was in high school when Classical Gas hit the radio and the old AM was about the best thing we had to enjoy it on. You know when you fall in love with something on AM....It Is Good! Bless you, Sir.
Thanks for your compliments though there are various other renditions on UA-cam. The extra with this one is that it has been played on about the same guitar, in fact an Oscar Teller 8P model.
This is extraordinary - a true virtuoso with an enlightening, invigorating performance. Thank you for this gift; it's truly uplifting and awe-inspiring!
Thanks for your compliments but I really do not consider myself as a true virtuoso. For that? Check Celil Refik Kaya: 4 amazing performances. That should be forbidden! L.O.L.
lovely on my ears. Thank you so much
Thank you, I appreciate your words.
I really liked this. Try listening to Tommy Emmanuels version too. All the best to you and yours. Rab
Of course I know Tommy Emmanuel. He is a great player and besides that a nice guy. But the warning should be: Try not to copy him. He is Tommy Emmanuel. One of a kind.
Beautiful! Does that Esteve have a cedar top? The ELEC guitars I've seen have had spruce tops, but the top on yours looks darker. -Tom
Hello Tom, Certainly a cedar top guitar. It is always easy to determine: Just put a light bulb into the soundbox. When the bracing of the top then is visible it is spruce. When there is nothing to see at all, then it is cedar.
