TJ's Train Videos (MA and beyond)
United States
Приєднався 19 гру 2012
Hi I am Tony Jordan, Massachusetts (USA) resident and major train fan (since I was about eight years old!). I like to take videos of trains, with a distinct preference for freight vs. passenger trains. I like variety so I try to go to new locations as much as I can, or to catch less common trains. While the vast majority of my videos are from my home state, I do occasionally venture elsewhere in search of railfanning adventures. Or I will squeeze in some train watching when out of town for other reasons (e.g. my family's big western US vacation last summer). I hope you enjoy the action.
PA Trip '24 Part 4: A Pair of NS Freights Pass N. Railroad St. in Hummelstown, PA (10/26/24)
Date: Saturday October 26, 2024
Locations: Listed Below
Video Resolution: 4k, 30 FPS (iPhone 14 Pro Max)
[Train list at the bottom]
Saturday of our trip was a bit of a mixed bag, with failed trips to Cove and Duncannon. In both of those locations we could not find a location with public parking and a good view of the tracks. We were specifically hoping for a spot to catch the NS 1065, the Savannah & Atlanta heritage unit, as we knew it was on its way west on the Harrisburg Line. So we ended up returning to the Bridgeview B&B in Marysville for yet more train-on-bridge action, where we would indeed catch # 1065. That'll be in another video I'll publish soonish.
We also wanted to head a bit east to catch some trains on the other side of Harrisburg, on the Harrisburg Line, going east to Philly. Eventually we decided on Hummelstown, which had been talked up on a railfan site I had read. We stopped for lunch at a KFC within view of the tracks. While we were there an intermodal passed through town, and then an autorack train passed as we drove from KFC to North Railroad St. (5 mins). What can ya do?!
We managed to catch two more trains there, including the 26X intermodal that we saw 4.5 hours earlier on the bridge at Marysville. I decided to include that train in this video too. The last of the sun disappeared shortly after that so we gave up for the day.
Enjoy!

CSX Local L004 Waits for Tree Removal West of California Ave. Crossing in Framingham, MA (10/03/24)
I guess they have a height restriction there.
Great video!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
So the Bridgeview was worth it? I see that place advertised in the NorthEast RR magazine all the time....
I thought it was. It was reasonably priced and centrally located related to the main action in the Harrisburg area. And the views from the B&B itself are very good. The staff was friendly too. I definitely recommend it!
Great job--thanks for posting this. Does the local have a 'regularish' time it comes through California Ave? I assume it crosses Route 9 as well in Framingham..
Thanks! That idea had been on my list for quite a while but it took a long time for it to happen. I believe that L004's crew goes on duty at 1130 in North Yard. I believe they set off circa 1-1.5 hours later, putting them at California Ave. around 1245-1330. But like all things related to freight trains, YMMV.
I was at the other end of the street- on Rt 9- at a doctor's office- watching that same train go by- wishing I had my drone on me.
Nice coincidence.
What day is your birthday on?
that is not the l005 that is not the l002 it is most likely a yard job extra from the first shift switcher or the third shift the l005 runs pretty much strictly to attleboro then back to framingham but it will sometimes head to worcester with standard cab units the l002 runs from 8:00 at night to 8:00 in the morning from framingham to worcester the l005 runs from 9:30 pm to 9:30 am l002 outlaws almost every day
Thanks. I kind of figured that if L005 continued to WOR, it would do so with standard cabs. But I thought I had heard of it occasionally using L002's power on that westward run. Also, someone on one of the FB groups has repeatedly referred to a morning train as L002 (e.g. 10/2/24 "L002 Grafton west @8:49am. C&O heritage unit third out."); so based on that, I figured he knew what he was talking about. The morning of my video, I heard a crew on the scanner call themselves L005 and say they were waiting for L002 to double their train in Nevins. So I guessed that the train I saw was one of those. But what do I know? I'll update the video as best as I can.
great catch and video of this freight coming out of this long tunnel
Yeah both of those trains had some nice mana mixed manifest I definitely enjoyed it thank you TJ
You're quite welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Nice catch. Definitely unusual for I010 to come in the afternoon. I010 usually comes 4 - 5 or 6AM
Interesting. I can't remember how we came to believe it was I010. I think I heard it on my scanner. But my son also had a friend over in Amsterdam, telling us what was headed our way, including train ID's, so we may have gotten it from him. But if you think it's unlikely to have been I010, I can't argue with you since I'm a Massachusetts guy. :-) That's only my third time railfanning in the Albany area. Always an enjoyable time though!
@tjstrainsakatonyjordan8611 I think you're correct with the symbol
I hope to get my next video from that day out in the next day or so. Three more trains we caught at VO.
Hey! We have the same name! Nice video
Oh cool
Loved the local
Me too! :-)
That diamond in Walpole can be a wonderful place to be around that time on weekdays. I try to use that as one of my stops between destinations. The next time you're there let me know maybe we can get somebody up on the bridges of Main Street & Elm Street to catch footage from both sides of the bridge of the train traffic. If this month gives me the time on a Tuesday, I was looking to film the MBTA'S yard in Readville/Milton or the Walpole diamond as you did here.
Thanks for the reply! I've caught L010 and L011 there individually, but I hadn't caught them on the same day like that. So it was cool how it all came together. And then it was fun to go to Readville as I hadn't been there in 2-3 years and hadn't caught a loaded L010 there before.
@@tjstrainsakatonyjordan8611 You sounded like Colonel Hannibal Smith from the A-Team, "I love it when a plan comes together." Keep up the good work.
How are you TJ
Hello Kathryn Hauser. Sorry I missed the newer comments on this one. I hope you're well.
Love you’re videos even tho I just started watching you, But I had a couple questions, I’m 16 and wanting to get into train conducting and I wanted to know what can I do now that could prepare me for that, like do I go to college for that? I don’t know how that process works
Hi Joshua. Sorry but I don't have the answers to your questions. But I wish you luck in your quest to become a railroader!
Tj thought I'd let you know I love your videos on switching I think that is cool I like to see you do more of that and in the yard if you could keep up the good work.
Thanks for the feedback, nightrider.

Thanks for posting. Nice to see a fairly good sized local out that way. I will have to get out to check that area...how far to they go? Thanks. Steve
hi Stephen. You're quite welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it. That is actually the second biggest consist I've ever seen for that train (33 being the longest). It goes up to Leominster on I believe Mon, Wed and Fri and only goes to I believe Clinton on Tue and Thu. The trains are longer on the Leominster days as they have two or maybe three customers up that way.
One more thing. If you follow my channel, wait for my next L004 video. It features the second shortest instance of this local train that I've ever videoed.
Are the yard crews PanAm, NS, CSX, or CP ???
Beautiful catches, Tony! I miss seeing those Mass Central locomotives on the Palmer cam. Always thought those had the most beautiful paint scheme! Thank you for taking us along - I hope your year is off to a great start!
Hey Seth! Good to hear from you. I hope you're doing well and that you've seen some good trains in your area! I was indeed excited to finally catch the bluebirds in action as I had been to Palmer seven times without spying them at all since the last time I saw MCER in person. If you want to know how my year is doing, you can read the first sentence in the description of my video entitled 'Last Day Out Fanning Before My “Break”: Amtrak P449 & CSX M437 in Wormtown, Plus a Mini M426 Chase'. But I'm happy to report that the surgery was a success and I'm recovering nicely. -Tony
Good video. Lits of trains. Too bad about the low views. It guves me the willies, a little , to see a train going backwards though!
Magnificent catches of the trains coming by and pass at the railroad crossing, I like it 5 stars. Thumbs up. Keep up the perfect work, my friend, you earned a new subscriber, Greetings from Portugal to the USA.
Thank you very much!
@@tjstrainsakatonyjordan8611Is that the CSX train that goes through Framingham near Rt.9 near the Motel 6?
@@oscarobrien That is not the same train. The one you're referring to is a branch line that goes northwest from Framingham to Leominster. The train that goes on that line is called L004. I have other videos of that train on my channel.

Wow a lot of Amazon on that train did all the containers that were on that train did they come from overseas?
That's my guess but I don't actually know.
From my observations, the CSX westbound job tends to start building its train at Nevins Yard after L010 departs back to Readville. Depending on the length of the job it takes a while to build its train at Nevins - your best bet is to just camp out at Framingham - either at the station (when a bunch of GE widecabs show up) or at Nevins (when it's building its train).
Thanks for the response. I've never tried to go to Nevins. So I'm not sure where to go hang out there. Whenever I pass by it, I wonder where I could stop.
That’s a beautiful spot! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Seth. I hope you are well.
@@tjstrainsakatonyjordan8611 Thank you, Tony! I am well here! Very busy season, but life is good. I hope you and yours are also well!
Very cool catch! I thought the 80 ton locomotive came from the power plant in Holyoke but I guess I was wrong and I would love to know where csx got it from. Have a amazing day!!!
Nice Video! I'd like to know how the other railfans knew the train was coming. I suspect the headlight issue was due to cool, humid air being pushed ahead of the locos, but an experienced photographer might be able to explain it better.
Ah, thanks for that theory, Kenneth!
Beautiful moving right along at 50 mph in the wind
Thanks for a good video
Glad you liked it
tis a lot of freight
Why did they stop?
I believe because there was no room in the yard for them. A westbound train (M439?) was working in the yard (which isn't very large) so I suspect this train had to wait for that other one to head west before entering the yard.
Ty now I see
Nice catch, Tony! What a cool location! And I love the paint scheme on those locomotives- I don’t think I’ve seen that on the wide cabs before!
Thanks, Seth! I was so excited to catch that train there, especially since it wasn't what I went to Worcester to see! It's officially the longest P&W train I've ever seen (and it's not close)!
A lot of swell containers on that train Nice spot seen it before I've always liked it really noisy though with that curve makes those wheels really sing.
No kidding! I've caught CSX M427 and that train there recently. The "screechiest" place I've ever been, including Horseshoe Curve!
Great catch, Tony! Love seeing that GE on a flat car! Neat catch with the MoW truck, too! Hope you've had a great summer, my friend.
Thanks, Seth! 👍
Keep joking with the wife I need to get one of those switchers for the back yard.
LOL, good luck with that!

I'm new to your Chanel, some great catches. Love the P&W action. Thanks
So interesting to watch this. From Srilanka
Former Somerset Railroad (NY) rotary coal hopper, seemingly now in MoW service, at 8.03 is an interesting catch....
Great camera angle for that meet! You even got a peek at the 39G DPU. Thanks for posting.
