Chorus effect on Lexicon PCM80, Lexicon MPX500 and Eleven Rack

Comparing chorus with reverb on three units: Eleven Rack, Lexicon MPX500 and Lexicon PCM80. Sorry for red lining PCM80 here and there, I did not match levels properly. Luckily it did not affect sound, almost anywhere. All three units can create different types of chorus effect, and this type is my favourite so I tried to match it on all three units. Lexicon PCM80 vs MPX500 (shorter reverbs)

This is a comparison of different reverbs that are most commonly used with guitars and other instruments. For my needs, differences are to subtle so I sold PCM80. MPX500 has everything I need. I use MPX500 only for Abyss ambient reverb, while Avid Eleven Rack covers all other reverbs perfectly. Signal chain in this video is: guitar into 11Rack and then USB to PC. @neo-gio Thank you 🙂 I am glad you find this relaxing 🙏 Rode M5 pair of microphones are connected into Yamaha MG06 mixer, from there sound is recorded with BR80. I use Audacity software to process audio by normalizing levels, and adding the reverb. Sometimes little reverb, sometimes more, sometimes none. Valhalla supermassive plug-in is used for reverb - you need to experiment to find the reverb that sounds good to you. Lately I have been using the EQ to some degree, to add the final touch to the recording.

    500 sounds clearer and brighter with more output gain, and slightly more aggressive. 80 sounds consistently lower in output, darker, and more subtle in comparison. I can even guess the two correctly; there's a clear difference...I can see why you sold the 80...very helpful considering everyone gushes over the 80/81 models. And the price difference too.

    • @BrankoOgorelec
      @BrankoOgorelec 8 місяців тому

      I feel that music is about the melody, harmony, composition, feeling, emotion, heart, and soul. Then, for me, it is much less important to dwell upon reverb as MPX500 is clear winner for this price/quality ratio. Remember that people were recording great music even without all the tech we have nowadays.

    • @BrankoOgorelec
      @BrankoOgorelec 9 місяців тому

      I did not upgrade the eprom. I use 11 Rack for my needs of simple reverb, chorus, and delay. MPX is only kept for Abyss preset that has beautiful modulated tail. Find my older video with dolphin picture, you will find the settings in the description. Here is another custom Abyss preset with all the parameters in the video itself: ua-cam.com/video/hg4N7hZsDr8/v-deo.htmlsi=BHe1ug6GfDlQ1ANS You can tweak the 06 plate preset if you use it only for reverb. Chorus presets also sound good. Chorus with reverb is also decent, find it in video on my channel. It all depends on what you have already - how you intend to use it.

I just found a video on YT with synth and MPX500, check it out if you didn't see it already. What did you record this with? I love the reverb!

      I add reverb after recording, using Audacity. There are plenty of plugins available, I have a few that I like. Also, sometimes I use Lexicon MPX500 dedicated hardware unit. Experiment and find your spice 🙂

That's what I get! I also forgot to mention, this is awesome! Great job on this! I love this (it's why I came back a month later. trying to figure out things to do with mine). Beautiful job man!

      @marsdrums6298 Thank you very much! I thought I'd be finished with my new RAV music before the 500th subscriber came in... but it is still in pre release rehearsal. For your 500th lucky charm I can offer a free pre release mp3. Find me on Facebook or Instagram to claim your prize 😀
