What Chris did was horrendous, but it doesn't eliminate the fact that a REAL autistic person commit those acts and was heavily related to the topic of Sonic. I appreciate the research gone into this video, and doubly appreciate the recognition of certain things such as the puzzle pieces. As someone with autism, I also noticed a large number of the fandom also has some kind of neurodivergency as well. One of my favorite sonic autism things to do though is assign personalities to characters from other things as being like Sonic. "This guy is cool, care-free, and heroic, so he's the Sonic of this franchise", or "This dude's like the edgier version of the main guy so he's the Shadow".

I had fond memories of the NES and SNES as an 80s kid. Did not get a Sega Genesis, N64, or OG XBox because didn't have the money or time at the time. The Gen 7 systems I remembered well because I got the OG DS for my son's birthday and the countless hours spent playing games on the Wii from Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, and Twilight Princess.

Who else here were 8bit sonic fans ? Who else lived for Tails Adventure or Sonic Triple Trouble ? Gosh i loved those the most.

As someone with autism as well as ADHD, I want to share my own idea and experience of what makes Sonic so beloved by people like me. While a good amount of influence may be because it happens to be what people grew up with, I think there's more that goes into it since the sentiment with Sonic and other popular media aren't the same when it comes to ASD. When I was young I was often more interested in non-human characters. When I played as a character either irl or in a game, I'd try to play as a cat or a Khajiit. This is due to my struggles in relation to socializing with others and the feeling of "not being human". Non-human characters felt more comfortable to me because there is always a difference compared to a human no matter how small that resonated with me. So sonic have multiple anthro or robot characters with amazing and captivating designs seem to be the first link. The second link is the types of characters. When I first got into Sonic, I was 10 and a HUGE Shadow enjoyer because the way he acted (rarely emoting, very few friends, sort of awkward, bluntness, being cool as hell) and what his struggles are had really resonated with me. I also knew many autistic and ADHD individuals who had especially related to Sonic, Silver, Knuckles, and Tails. When I see myself in a character I tend to fixate on them HARD for at least a year or more. Because of how the characters are stylized, their range in expressing through both facial and body movements is very noticeable. Third link is how easy the characters are to categorize in groups, we have Team Sonic, Team Dark, Team Rose, Team Chaotix, Flyers, Fighters, Runners, Team Babylon, SSS (Sonic-Shadow-Silver), Type of animal, Which game they're known from, etc. This is nice! Fourth link is music. It rocks. It pumps you up in both instrumentals and lyrics. For me, music is extremely important as a self-soother and when I stim. It occupies my brain in the perfect way. While on this point, the general messages that Sonic media sends is uplifting and comforting. Fifth link is extensive content and lore. Whether from shows, comics, movies, or the games there is a wealth of Sonic-related knowledge that fuels a person interest in it by learning more about what they like. Sixth link is the community. When there is a whole group of people like me I am much more willing to join in. In my experience irl, sonic fans are often seen as the "weird kids" which were usually just autistic people. I lost steam near the end but that's basically my ideas

To be fair, the generation 7 is the last time we had an actual competition. Everyone pushed the others to become the better version of themselves. Right now, Xbox just gave up, Sony thinks they're a new Apple and Nintendo is just doing its own thing without giving a damn about the other consoles. We need the competition back.

For me it's Generation 6, followed by Generation 7, which is kind of a mix due to backwards compatibility lol. I'm 30 now. Man time flies...

One thing about this generation I loved is that although online play was fully developed during this generation. However, local multi-player was still very common place. Everyone had a DS and download play was great. People were still coming over to a friend/family members house to play Mario Kart/Party/Smash/Sports, wii sports, and COD(When it was still good and fresh)/Halo split screen.

The XBOX 360 and 3DS are my favorite consoles and handhelds respectively. I still have them and play them almost every day.

While some consider the 6th generation better, I have to disagree as while im not denying that the 6th gen is fantastic, it wasn’t really a balanced generation and I feel like gaming is a tad more boring when one of the big 3 has too much of a dominance (and it can enable one company to become arrogant). Whereas the 7th gen had so many great games and each platform went all out and with everyone doing extremely, nobody could really afford to be arrogant. Sony learnt that the hard way with the PS3s launch and had to do some drastic things to keep up. Microsoft who was still relatively a new player in the console space had to really prove themselves. Even with Nintendo, they had to work with heavier limitations compared to others. While the wii did bring something incredibly unique at the time and brought in a type of customer base that couldn’t have been brought in normally in that era, they really had to pull off major heavy hitters with it being weaker specs wise or they risk falling off severely. The 8th and 9th generation really showcased how overconfidence can lead to a weaker generation, the wii u tried to ride the wii’s successes and failed, the xbox one irreparably damaged Xbox in a way where its presence is fading from the console space and resorted to buying out other studios and publishers to compensate and Sony became far too overconfident with the success of the PS4 that they think they could do whatever thus leading to them making baffling decisions with what their investing in game projects going far into live service that they lost alot of what made them stand out in the ps2 and 3 days. In an ideal situation No major platform should ever falter severely as it can and has led to complacency
