I love those papercraft buildings and towers! Did you make them yourself, or can they be bought somewhere?
How do you rig it up to do painting videos?
That was a great battle report! Would love to see you guys try The Old World as well :)
Would I have to rebase everything?
This is fantastic. Not sure how I didn’t find your channel before. Your painting is fantastic! I too have a massive backlog from many years. When I commissioned painted I used a kanban board. Trying to get back into painting for myself after barely picking up a brush the past two years. I noticed on this New Year’s Eve that I didn’t finish a single project for myself this year, quite disappointing, so I’m planning on using your method in combination with a Trello board. Not sure how I will get on, but I’m looking forward to hopefully having a much more productive year hobby wise. I also only played a handful of games this year, which was regrettable. I had a good gaming friend move to Alaska so trying to find more people who align with the same outlook on the hobby, focus on narrative and fun battles and fully painted armies, which happens to be harder than I thought due to the highly competitive sea of grey plastic that seems to plague Texas and my city of Houston. Anyways much rambling to say that I really enjoyed your video and plan on implementing your process into this coming year, now off to clean the hobby room and workbench
Absolutely brilliant 👏🏻
Thanks a lot
@ petition to give Jim a speaking part 📚
@TomKing-e1z Ever since he started playing lizardmen he only communicates in sibilant hisses
I have watched all of your videos. I will now consider myself a good egg.
That is one of the metrics!
I really enjoyed this bat rep. I'd love to see more. You may be out of official scenarios for the minis you've got, but you can always invent your own - or play out some from the Battle Book.
Love the " Really Useful Box" collection. The garage is impressive. I know that this comment is extremely late but maybe a Blackstone Fortress battle report might inspire some growth?
Inspiring! I'm not so into GW anymore but I really like the organization and get it done attitude. Can't wait to watch where you go with your projects. The hair reveal at the end was a great plot twist.
One good thing about the larger bases in Old World is that your metal models don’t fall over as much 😂 Great bat rep I thoroughly enjoyed it
Very true!
“Gordon’s Alive??” Love them all!
0:48 Spawn Pools. Great battle 😊
Right! But are there eggs in the pool or do they just come out fully grown (like Jim)?
Whoa, I used to own that box back in the day! So nice to see the set (and more) painted up and getting some action on the table, my models never even got close to the glory on display here.
It only took 28 years for me to finish it, it's not too late for you!
This was a fantastic battle report! I loved it. I also fell hook line and sinker for the cliff-hanger ending and was so relieved you were just kidding.
I was worryingly proud of that bit!
You've made the best battle report I have watched... for the second time! I like how fast it goes, allowing for a clear overview of the troops movements on the battlefield, whithout sacrificing important details of dice rolls through the thorough narration. The humour and storytelling kept me engaged the whole time as well.
Too kind! I was inspired by Ed from Minisodes, check him out for an even better 40k version
Nice job ! Hope to see an other one soon !
This are the hardest to produce videos I make, so it will probably always be 3 to 6 months between battles
What a Christmas bonus 🎉
Top-notch stuff! Love the more narrative/tactic-focussed style rather than the endless hours of dice rolling a lot of other battle reports seem to be. Also, "Comment tu t'appelle?!" as a battle cry feels like it's straight out of a Terry Pratchett novel. Only thing missing is movement trays ;)
I think slowly and awkwardly moving models about is part of the charm. And I know that Josh at Crown of Command will disown me if I start using movement trays!
lol poor Jim, always catching strays in the narration! Love this channel (and the Home Alone reference) !
I don't know if they are stays, necessarily. Feels pretty premeditated to me!
Found your channel today, and the battle reports are great, glad I stumbled into these videos while bingewatching painting videos while painting :) I think your method is great, I employed a similar one starting somewhere this July, but a bit more free-form - paint a mini for every day. Not necessarily on every day, and I can cheat with smaller scale ones (tho usually even with counting a strip of 10mm figures I end up with 30+), but it has been working really nicely, only exception was October, when I did only like 28, including a Stompa, so it gets a pass. Taking on the backlog and seeing all the cool minis I bought years ago getting painted and ready to play is a very good feeling, and I can really recommend everyone to start organizing their hobby efforts a bit.
Wonderful, loved it!
Great stuff. Thank you.
Memories! Beautifull Minis!
perfect Xmas gift. Merci Monsieur !
I have this and completed it also 🎉
A dogs of war army you mean?
This is fantastic! Great BR! You got to get you chaos dwarves in one of these!
That was a close one, I was on the edge of my seat throughout!
I love this video and this kind of battle reports, really cool! The skirmishing skinks' charge? Illegal indeed. In 5th edition WFB everyone is limited to a 90° frontal arc of view, including characters and skirmishers. From 6th onwards this changed, individual chatacters on foot and skirmishers were allowed a 360 vision. 5th edition was my first and it's still my favourite. Cheers! Happy holidays everyone!
thanks for the clarification!
Fantastic quarter, the High Elves look gorgeous 🎉 Looking forward to the next quarter, retro Fantasy obviously being a highlight for me
You and me both!
I'll take a humble 100 internet points for pointing out you said Pizarro's Legion instead of Pirazzo's Legion as it is in the rulebook. Common mistake though as Pizarro is the Spanish explorer of the Incan empire the unit is obviously based on. Not really a mistake in the rules though so I won't take the full 1000 internet points, just 100. Also kudos for using Pirazzo's legion because the Lizardmen do have a strong Aztec/Incan/Mayan influence so it makes complete sense as to them being allies.
@CherokeeWill I think we can compromise on 500 Internet points, since I didn't realise I was pronouncing it wrong for nearly 30 years!
Beautiful and with Warhammer The Old World gaining ground with the minis available we should have a lifetime of gaming left in us, especially for people like me who have all the rules and army books from WHFB 3rd to 8th. Love the commentary on these battle reports.
This was a brilliant thing to watch xmas eve. What a gift lol. I had forgotten in 5th ed all champions were mini hero's. Might have to see if can source the rulebook 🤔 Merry Xmas!
A gripping combat `! I enjoyed watching....thanks Mick !
I laughed out loud on the come part for Part II tease.
Bloody useless pikemen. Never trust the warm-bloods.
Spoilers!
I have 2 copies of the Skaven half ... Now I'm a bit inspired.
Get on it!
Well done! Asurian will be proud. and nice choice with the company of honor. made them by myself.
We definetely do have similar taste in Warhammer!
digging it
Stunning work
Thank you! Cheers!
Another great video, mate! Those High Elves look sensational, personally they're an army that I've never wanted to collect but there is no denying how good they look all painted up. Coincadently, I was able to get my hands also on nine metal Men-at-Arms with shields and spears which I've been slowly painting up. I'm not a Bretonnian player but, again, there is no denying how great the models look.
I've already done two of them, and they were such a treat to go from bare metal to almost done in a single evening, especially after 3 months of these super complex elves.
Wow...the elves look good ! As always very inspiring. I do wonder if you would be willing to do an army review with all the miniatures that you have done. Very cool !
@@frederickgleicher1385 Aaaaall of them?
@@hammerthebacklog that would be very cool. I would watch it if you did !
can't wait for you to paint the genestealer cult with the genestealer cult with the genestealer cult with the genestealer cult with the genestealer cult!
That Legolas cosplay was phenomenal, you crack me up! Seeing your finished collection of this very challenging group of Elves (and some classic Bretonnians) all painted up to such a high standard is pretty awe-inspiring. Well done, and I can't wait to see your take on the Deathwatch Overkill marines, those are some of my all-time favourite Space Marines.
@arandomlostsoul753 Legolas cosplay? Do you mean my normal hair?
I startet fresh into warhammer after decades a few weeks ago and found this old startset in one of my boxes from the move to my new house. Your video inspired me to gave them a little love. I reglued them, the glue I used back them was a superglue and everything was not really holding together anymore. Now they are waiting for a new paintjob ;)
@@NighthawkPhantom1977 Love to hear it!
Zoom in a bit Mick!
@GarethNewtonWilliams You've underestimated how unphotogenic I am! Oh wait, you meant on the models!
@ Nope - believe it or not, happy to see your face and your expressions. The shot with you and the army had so much space around it. Just wanted to reach out and pull you closer!
@GarethNewtonWilliams It's still a learning process. I've just found out that cameras can have different lenses, for example
Oh man lsle of blood. Best set gw created for fantasy
Ohhh, heavy competition! There was never a bad fantasy starter set I my opinion
Just when I was thinking that it should be time for another Hammer the Backlog update you do appear. Keep up the good work man, seeing your videos and blog inspired me to get back into painting more consistently this year. I was even inspired get my old 3rd Ed. Blood Angels from middle school dusted off, repaired, and rebased this past week for my 1st Quarter 2025 painting project.
Instant hit of satisfaction hearing that! And even better that it's 3rd edition 40k. I feel that era calling me too
Beauty
And the models aren't too bad, either!
Fantastic paint job! I can’t wait for the high elves to come back to the old world now ❤
I'm doing my best to give GW no choice
These are all superb and that Mini Painter Meg sounds like a great woman, someone would be very lucky to be married to her indeed. 😃The Island of Blood set is such a great collection on miniatures and having them ready for the table is quite the coup!
Haha! What a small world! I can only assume you are, therefore, also a good egg!
@@hammerthebacklogwell Meg likes me so I must be doing something right!
