In this video I walk through a tool I built for visualizing distortion. This is a modded oscilloscope and instead of plotting a waveform it shows how a waveform is altered by an FX chain.
This tool has been super useful for me while I have been working on developing an analog tape emulator, so I hope you can find it useful too! It's not a very long video and there are a ton of useful signal processing nuggets in here I have learned over my career as an audio signal processing engineer - the tool just makes it so much easier to explain what is going on when the scope visualizes the parts that are hard to describe.
I use this visualization tool to gain some insights on stock #Ableton plugins (saturator, redux, auto filter and delay) as well as third party #kilohearts shaper and #fabfilter saturn2.
