Are you using composite out or an RGB Hat? RPI4 or RPI5?
@@anthonymeo8119 this is an Atari VCS - an Atari branded mini PC based on an AMD Ryzen APU, and I’m using the HDMI port directly. I did the same with the RPI Zero 2 W, and it should work on RPI4/5 but I haven’t tested it, here’s the procedure for RPIZ2W: github.com/jfroco/rpizero_lakka_crt
HDMI to component or VGA adapter, and could you list if recommended?
In this case I’m using the Portta HDMI to VGA converter and the Kramer VGA/XGA to RGBHV Converter VP-100 because I’m using the RGBS input of my PVM (BNC connectors). But I have used several adapters/converters. I will publish a simple solution I found for HDMI to component, readily available. Spoiler: cheap HDMI2VGA adapter plus AliExpress’ “Bitfunx RGBS VGA to YPBPR Component Converter SCART to YPBPR YCBCR For Retro Game Consoles”. I’m testing them today.
@@jfroco My only concern would be latency due to all the conversions.
@ latency due to conversions is zero (just a few ns, probably): no buffers, no upscaling, no downscaling, no waiting for anything at all, just simple and pure realtime transcoding.
Tried this on my i7 6700 with hd530. When i scan video options its says DP-1 connected and im plugged in via VGA cable which seems odd. No other vga option listed all display port. Is this cpu not compatible? Ive tried different guides and cannot get it working.
Hello. I recommend using this script that generates all necessary configurations automatically: github.com/ZFEbHVUE/Batocera-CRT-Script
I'll give that a go thanks for the response
@@jfroco Update on this- could not get it working on the i7 sff. Suspect because it showed as Display port instead of VGA? I bought a tiny lenovo i5 4th gen and bingo. Showed up as VGA and script worked with a bit of tinkering. Question- still cannot get audio through TV. I'm using a vga -> component converter. Would love to hear some suggestions. Tried the obvious in batocera under system settings
Is there a way i can output 240p using an HDMI to VGA adapter with A mini PC? I have one with an AMD 5800H.
Nowadays, I recommend checking github.com/ZFEbHVUE/Batocera-CRT-Script to configure everything automatically, but it says "up to 5700 XT". I would try to change the resolution via SSH using super resolutions.
I am on a PC running windows 11 and it says xrandr command not found. Additionally when looking on how to download this I am finding articles that this is no longer compatible with Windows. Does anyone know of a quick substitute I can use to make these changes?
You don't run commands on your Windows machine, you must do it on Batocera Linux via SSH (using Putty).
@@jfroco , thanks. Yeah, I realized that and had been running through SSH but wasn't using Putty. I ended up not being able to get it to work and switched to RetroPie. That OS is much better suited for analog 240P out on a Raspberry Pi 4 through the composite AV jack. I do hope that Batocera builds in better support for this in future builds.
I finally got this to work by sticking the mGBA.switchres.ini with the resolution of 0x240 next to the cfg override file, my mistake of not achieving this was I had this dumb idea of just creating a mGBA folder within the config folder without the override save cfg before putting the mGBA.switchres.ini file. lol
Although you have to fix the rest of settings through scaling to make sure it's on integer custom 240x160 inside RA to iron out artifacts.
Merci, je vais testé 👍
That looks great! Really like how the layout of the level changed as Donkey Kong jumped too
This seemed to have potential. Too bad Flash was discontinued in 2020, because if it had continued to be supported. APIs like Stage3D and Away3D would have continued to mature and Flash would have become Shockwave 2.0.
That looks nice. Did you need to use any special hardware or software to get this to work?
Hardware: PC with AMD Radeon HD8490. OS: Windows 10 + CRTEmudriver, Software: Retroarch with CRT Switchres enabled, Bezel: made with paint.net. Monitor: PVM 14n1u modded for RGB input using a VGA (DB15) input. For PVMs with SCART input I use the ArcadeForge UMS (VGA RGBHV to SCART RGBS).

what cable to connect retrotink into pvm?

Does any one have a HDD image with this all already setup for 240p? This is beyond the scope of my abilitites. Id like to just download the image and add the games i want and start playing on my crt
Sad the 3 in one is 200+ on ebay and , 60 for this one lol 😂
Sadly GBA in 15khz is stuck in interlace with no way of fixing it unless the emulation devs develop a emulative GBA Player bezel to force 240p on it otherwise I'm stuck with this shitty flickering unless I'm overlooking something.
Hi. You are right... the core forces 480i, but you can get 240p doing this: 1) create this file: /userdata/system/configs/retroarch/config/[CORE]/[CORE].switchres.ini (Example "VBA Next.switchres.ini") 2) Add this line to the file: user_mode 2560x240@60 3) Enjoy!! Video: ua-cam.com/video/vlrvv4B0SbI/v-deo.html
Sadly I couldn't get it to work I'll just wait until an easy fix comes along or just jump into a rabbit hole purchasing a Gamecube with a Gameboy Player to get the 240p on my CRT@@jfroco
Does this work on a modern tv as well?
Yes it does... 720p via HDMI.
Thank You 🙏
Great footage, I'm working with a similar setup, just waiting for the component cables to arrive, on back order. Is this the actual disc or did you invest in a Satiator/ODE?
thx, this is so hard to achieve, tried so many cables and converters

hi did you update the retrofreak to firmware v2.0 for this to work?
Yes, I updated my console to latest version (2.7) before testing.

doesnt look to exciting for a game called excitebike :P
Hi and thanks for your video. I have a Sony PVM 9L2 CRT which supports 240p / 480i + 2 input module cards (VGA/SCART and BNCs). I want to connect a mini PC - LarkBox with Intel J4115, but it only have HDMI output. Is it possible to get 240p / 480i to work with my setup? What HDMI adapter do I need? Thanks again!
You didn't add the switchres.ini you sure that's 240p? I followed your video but the output was just 480i & retroarch scaling it into different aspects ratios. Found another guide with switchres specific settings & got native 240p.
It’s 240p for sure. In this version you don’t need switchres.ini as Retroarch will use hard coded values for CRT Switchres. But you can check yourself using xrandr to get the current video mode. Also in Linux you don’t need CRTEmudriger or having preconfigured video mode lines as they can be applied directly,
@jfroco do you happen to have config file to get batocera on a raspi3 to output at 240p via 3.5mm Composite out?

What does the log file say? You can find them in: /userdata/system/logs the one that has the information about the crashing is es_launch_stderr.log
@@jfroco I think the issue was that I was using a HDMI to component converter and the converter doesn't recognize the signal. I switched to a VGA to component cable, but it gives me a scrambled picture even after following the guide. Do I need an active VGA to component transcoder?
I need to use only a crt monitor, is it possible to run big box at 240p?
I don't think so... there are other frontends more suitable for 240p (I would recommend 480i for frontend and 240p for games).

No nunca.
I have a similar TV . Didi you fix the overscan, this tv doesn't have a setting for making the overscan smaller. I run Batocera on a Pi zero. I find that if I set anything in the settings when I reboot it resets itself, very annoying. Let me know if you have a solution for this. Thanks.
