NAS Alameda has changed some but off the base proper behind the entrance gates. Old naval housing has been replaced, yes. However all the old administrative buildings, in the core, and the outlying hangers remain. They are simply rented out as is. I have been on the former base every weekend since June 1998 to work on the Hornet so I can see what has changed incrementally. Same goes for Mare. Mostly not much in the way of any tear downs but simply renting out of buildings that are deemed safe while others remain closed for anything.

Castle was my first duty station in 1981 until 1983. It was a really neat place. The entire San Joaquin Valley is a mind blower in itself. There is a YT vid someone uploaded of them driving around the entire base. I was shot in 2015 or so. Brought back a lot of memories.

Naval Air Station Hitchcock was located next to Camp Wallace. It supported Navy blimps that patrolled the Gulf of Mexico. The Blimp Hangar concrete door supports are all that is left of the Blimp hangar.

Naval Training Center, San Diego was a Blast in 1974 !!! While my Company was not aligned with top Honors it was a Great group of people....I got High scores with someone else and we had pick of Submarines or Aviation. They Closed in 1997...what a tragic end to such a piece of History. Thanks to anyone that went there or served there.

BRAC! A idea created by fools. Base Realignment and Closure. George A.F.B. looks like crap, this video is full of it, not accurate. March A.F.B. went from active duty into air reserve. I see March probably being a staging area for bombers, tankers, and cargo aircraft in the future against China! Fort Ord is heavily contaminated, this video makes it appear to be a fun place to play and roll around on the ground.😂Don't be gullible, write down the names and research the reality of what really happened. A tragedy, no funds saved, only destroyed the military infrastructure for defending America. Treason by elected officials, future generations will curse us for handicapping their defense.😢

Why can't these places be turned into home for the homeless, they could build or refurbished , these communities into permanent housing, it would give a pride in ownership !!! And knowing that they had a helping hand in building their communities ... Right ?

You ought to use a live narrator. For example, it was George Air Force Base, not Georgia Force Base. AI technology notwithstanding, sometimes computers can just be plain stupid.

I think this was an AI generated script, at least. Just enough errors and repetition of the same phrases to make it sound that way. In addition to calling it DC, there’s also the inclusion of active bases and Northern State was not a military base. Nice collection of photos, though.

USA about your saying your cramp cells and all that I say too bad I don't really care do the crime do the time they ought to go back to no AC forum no commentary and guess what if you work there you stay on the grounds and yes visitors everyone is searched that would cut down on the drugs being brought in by the garage because you know they're just not magically appearing there the guards are making like 60% of what it's worth on the street then it's like a hundred times more in there

You neglected to mention the decade that the B36 "Peacemaker" flew out of Carswell AFB and here's a little trivia for everyone: for a time, members of the 4th Air Wing, Texas State Guard trained at the JRB until the base commander, Captain T.D. Smyers felt the TSG wasn't performing adequate background checks on its members and ordered them off his base.

as someone from sacramento i would just like to set this straight there is 2 mather airforce bases he was showing pictures of both. the picture with the gate and barb wire with few abandon buildings is the real mather airforce base that shut down shortly after the cold war and is still abandon till this day, and they have covered the underground bunkers with trees. however there is the public mather airforce base that is now public use.

I drove through Ft. Wolters back in 2015. I don’t know why, but that place gave me the jitters. A lot of vacant buildings that time just forgot. Did have a nice memorial just past the entrance honoring some of the most recognizable people that went through there. Audie Murphy for one! Also, the round building at Bergstrom used by the AAF and Air Force is now the Austin Bergstrom Hilton

Spent four years at McClellan 1982-1986. Visited most of the other bases on this list when they were still active, as well as other now-closed USAF bases in CA like Mather and Norton. As retired USAF, it's sad to see their demise, but the reality is the various BRAC programs were necessary and the military doesn't really miss any of these bases.

Was surprised to learn that White Sands Missile Range, with its current 6,000 civilian and military personnel and conducting over 3000 tests for the army, navy, and air force, is abandoned! It is quite active and continues to play an important role in military preparedness and research.

The old west forts are pretty much ruins, as you would expect. A HUGE chunk of land south of Carrizozo is military reserve down to the Texas border, between White Sands missile range & the Fort Bliss Army Reserve. Maybe parts of the missile range are abandoned, but don't bet on it. The locals tell of folks sneaking into areas that appear abandoned, yet military vehicles home right in on them in 5-10 minutes & escort them out at gunpoint. Walker is supposedly all civilian for decades since the 1960's, yet it hosts a permanent contingent of GERMAN soldiers living beneath it. Estimates run from several hundred to 2,500 based there; it's a secret well-known to the locals. I grew up in Roswell. The runways are world-class & regularly host foreign nations training pilots. Don't think for one minute that the city can provide for their upkeep. DOD is still there, even if they officially maintain they are not. Oh, and the vid says RIAC stands for Roswell Int'l Air Center, but the I is for Industrial. Though it can handle any size aircraft, that fact is deliberately downplayed in the name.

not sure why Camp Lewis is on this. its now JBLM. you did list a lot of the popular ones in the state (not the D.C. like it says in the description) but what about Fort Whitman in La Conner? if we're talking about abandoned that place is probably the most abandoned out of all of the ones on the list.
