Car insurance is a scam and rip off. I would have been going to trade school with no insurance and driving extra cautious. This story he told kinda blows its like the moral of the story is to cry and beg a company to get ur way. We need to push back on these insurance companies.

It is very expensive, depending on where ya buy , im a mechanic ,if i wanna buy an impact, a drill its 200+ and then ya gotta but the battery too, 400+ i can go buy a dewalt and get the battery and charge , and an extra battery for the same price ,im just saying, and i truly think that depends on where ya live as well 🤷‍♂️

Ya don't have to charge these outrageous pricings on ONE job because you have all the equipment to cover for. It's the reason you go into business so you can continue being in business in the long run. Soon as people realize there are fair-er pricing elsewhere, your business is done.

Once had a tree guy give me such an outrageous estimate 10k+ for a 2-3k job. I asked him to explain. He said he has all this equipment, truck, crane, and shop he's got to pay for. I laughed. Why does the customer have to pay for your your irresponsible purchases. Bid the job not your bills. So I told him to kick rocks. Did it myself with a chainsaw and a ladder.

How much of that is personal profit? You have all those expenses, true, but how much profit? That is the most important factor that determines if your prices are fair or not, and suspiciously it is one you did not mention. 🤔

I actually switched from Milwaukee to DeWalt, because I was tired of low quality 1/2 impacts. They were taking a shit every 6-8 months. The dewalts last the same at a lower cost. So there you go

I know you say you'd rather not have apprentices. But if you did, shouldn't that be in COGS? That way, if a technician wants a "helper" it will only affect his own paycheck, and not the entire company's, specifically the other techs that work harder to do a job without help. We consider the helpers pay as a direct cost to each job they're on, with a different labor cost than our techs. Mark it up just as we would with materials, but don't include it in our hourly rate calculations either. You could say we have 3 things we sell: Materials, Skilled Labor, and Unskilled Labor. What do you think? Too complicated? We are electricians, so service work can usually be 1-man, but our projects are very inefficient without 2-man tasks.. Your thoughts?

    • @jeredwilliams

I would include apprentice in cogs for non service work that requires 2 guys. I would classify those as install crews and would keep service and install income, cogs and gross margin separate on my P&L.

Corruption in government! They need money for politicians and illegals plus lets not forget Ukraine. Why are we forced to pay taxes for others. Workmens comp is criminals. They don't care they charge ridiculous amounts then reward people you fire. Plus in Maryland to get a contract you must give 5 to 10% profits to a black company. They say minority but only accept certain businesses which are all only one race. Tell me again who really has privilege.
