    • @BecomingAnElectrician
      @BecomingAnElectrician 7 годин тому

      Yeah they are essentially like an extra sock over your foot for extra warmth & insulation from the outside elements. The bonus is that they are absorbent to keep your actual foot less wet, so break times when you sit your feet can often get cold because of dampness and not moving! When your feet are less wet, it is easier to get back up and going to a better warmth. Further, they were quite comfy over time as it protects your feet from rigid boots 👍 becoming-an-electrician.com/

      I'd say first see if your school has a program to get you started doing your apprenticeship during school. That will save you a year, and get you ahead faster. If they don't offer that, maybe look for a high school that does. If not, then I would say in your last couple months of high school you can start reaching out to electrical employers with a resume telling them you're eager to start learning the trade! becoming-an-electrician.com/

    Do you have any tips on how to avoid "wounding the wire" where using too much force on pliers leaves a mark on the wire? My personal wire stripper has the same problem too

    • @BecomingAnElectrician
      @BecomingAnElectrician Місяць тому

      This usually happens when the pliers are brand-new, the grips are very prominent. Overtime the pliers won't leave the harsh marks. What's more concerning is if you score the wire, such as if you use too small of a wire stripping gauge. If you really wanted, you could try taping the plier grips, or just use them for other tasks to dull the grips a little bit. becoming-an-electrician.com/

    • @JamesB-oh6py
      @JamesB-oh6py Місяць тому

      I have another question, whenever I use a wire stripper on a, let's say a no.14 AWG wire and use the same measurement on the wire stripper, it always leaves a small "cut" at the point where the insulation and copper wire is stripped, my current workplace is kinda strict on this kind of things as they demand that all electrical splices should have very few/no marks at all.

    • @BecomingAnElectrician
      @BecomingAnElectrician Місяць тому

      @@JamesB-oh6py It sounds like you are using the wrong size hole when stripping (make sure you're using solid for solid, and stranded for stranded). If you are using the right size, maybe try not squeezing as hard. You can always pull the insulation off with pliers too if you're very concerned. If you do make score marks, it is bad, and significantly weakens the copper electrical wire! becoming-an-electrician.com/

    • @BecomingAnElectrician
      @BecomingAnElectrician Місяць тому

      If you have a good splice, with no copper exposed, tape is not needed. Using tape is not bad, and it does improve the secureness of the splice. For example, let's say the splice would be near a vibrating machine, you may want to tape CLOCKWISE so the splice remains tight due to vibrations. In normal situations, taping is not required. becoming-an-electrician.com/

(Sometimes they'd help you find work, too!) I don't think it matters if you're union or non-union, your hours will apply to your apprenticeship. Usually you work about 9 months, then go to school for about 3 months (~10 weeks). Hi, my friend wants to come to canada with electrician diploma in Saskatchewan. I wanted to ask that is there demand for this job and will he able to get job after his diploma. Will it be helpful in pr ?

    • @BecomingAnElectrician
      @BecomingAnElectrician Місяць тому

      I cannot speak if there is demand, it is really based on the economy and if lots of building is happening.. but typically work is found. I'm not sure about Saskatchewan electrical as I've never worked there, but the information shared in my video will typically apply to an electrical apprenticeship in Canada. It's not so much of a diploma that you complete once, an apprenticeship is typically a back and forth process of going to school, then going to work, then back to school until you finish your Red Seal in Canada. becoming-an-electrician.com/how-to-become-an-apprentice-electrician/

    • @BecomingAnElectrician
      @BecomingAnElectrician Місяць тому

      To become a residential / commercial electrician, typically you want to look at "Construction Electrician" type of courses. Power engineering I think would be more on the engineering side, like prints & creating distribution systems.. not actual hands-on work as a real electrician. becoming-an-electrician.com/

    Is mathematics essential in becoming an electrician? I'm interested in applying to a pre-apprenticeship but I struggle with mathematics, always have.

    • @BecomingAnElectrician
      @BecomingAnElectrician 2 місяці тому

      It is a bit heavy on math, but once you learn the core formulas, you will be able to follow along pretty well. It's not as intense as something like calculus, but there's Pythagorean theorem, basic multiply / divide, understanding electrical science, and sometimes things like Horse Power, and other things. But you will learn it in school as you go along. On the jobsite, the math isn't required as much as you may think, as a lot of that is figured out from the electrical engineer who designs the prints, we just follow the prints. But in school, yes there is lots of math, but it's not super intense math, but intermediate. becoming-an-electrician.com/

    • @BecomingAnElectrician
      @BecomingAnElectrician 2 місяці тому

      There are machines to strip wire if you're looking to recycle the copper for money. If not, you can use the bare bond wire #14 in the #14/2 NMD ? Otherwise, you should be able to strip a decent amount each time. Be careful with the razor blade.. becoming-an-electrician.com/

    Great if theres no drywall yet, but these suck if there's already drywall installed. No where to screw into through the box like the metal ones and the lip around it needs to be behind the drywall which you can't do unless you cut an even bigger hole, leaving you some drywall work. Not good for a quick install.

    • @BecomingAnElectrician

      Not meant for a retro-fit. Meant for initial install. Also hard to remove if you ever want to remove it in drywall stage, but the box is very secure 👍 becoming-an-electrician.com/

    • @BecomingAnElectrician
      @BecomingAnElectrician 2 місяці тому

      Yes, both the plastic and rubber are designed to protect from shock.. rubber is more common. If you cut just the hot wire, you will not see the arc (spark). If you cut both hot & neutral, you will get the bang, and destroy your cutters.
