    What size pipe did you use for the flue? Was it vented straight up through the ceiling or does it transition through the wall with a 90 degree bend?

    • @gladgurkan91
      @gladgurkan91 3 роки тому

      The chimney pipe is a 200mm diam one. Not ideal, since it´s a bit too small, really. I´d preferred to have 300m diam one, at least, but couldn´t find any. The hood that extends out of the hearth is rectangular in shape so the volume is a little bit bigger in it than in the chimney itself. The hood does a smooth 45 degree turn upwards inside that steel barrel which you can see on the forge, and the chimney pipe connects straight into it. It then goes up, throught the housing of the barrel, and further a bit before it makes another 45 degree turn upwards and through the wall behind it. On the outside of the wall, it makes another 45 degree turn to get the pipe vertical again and then shoots straight up until it reaches about one meter above the rooftop.

    • @Neuman357
      @Neuman357 3 роки тому

      @@gladgurkan91 Thanks for the Reply! You’re right, 300mm non-galvanized pipe probably has to be fabricated.

      Hi again Luther, this isn´t my own shop, it belongs to the school that I´m studying on. Oh so you´re in the process of building a blacksmithing shop? Sounds interesting! Thank you, I forged it together with Daniel Lea when he visited me in July of 2013.

      Hey Jerry, Yeah I did alittle blacksmithing years ago, but never had my own shop. Now at 62 yrs.old I'm kinda getting back into it. Will just be a small shop when done. Just for hobby type work. I have kids and grandkids that would like to learn about the craft and what better way then to have old granddad show them! LOL! I wish I had kept it up when I were your age, but I guess better late then never! I am so glad to see all the young folks that are keeping the trade alive. You and so many others should be commended for preserving a craft or trade that hasn't changed much in several thousand of years! Take care and we will be keeping an eye on youalls ( thats country talk from where I live.LOL! ) progress. Good Luck! and Keep on Hammering!

      Thank you Luther! Yeah it´s coming along pretty good in this one I think. I probably could forge it with more efficiency today though, since my skills in blacksmithing techniques has preogressed quite a bit since I made this knife. Haha, yeah, I know this scenario. :)

    Are you using a mild steel here or a tool or spring steel?

    • @gladgurkan91
      @gladgurkan91 10 років тому

      Probably something in between, I´m not sure of the exact steel grade because I got it from a scrap heap, but it felt too hard to be mild steel, and maybe a bit too soft to be spring steel.

Is there anyone out there that can do this for me. Get me your info if your interested in this. I am looking to make it into a handle for a drawer on a 1955 refrigerator that I'm restoring. Thanks.

    Just a tip @4:50 when you are cutting off the excess, turn the metal so you wont be hammering onto the axe head, dulling it in the process, and potentially defacing your hammer.

    I slathered my tree stump with the cheapest silicone I could find and set the anvil on it before it cured... Also have a magnet too! It's amazing how we search for the ring as an indicator of quality, yet when we get the damned thing home we spend more time trying to avoid tinnitus...

    • @gladgurkan91
      @gladgurkan91 10 років тому

      Oh, I see. Yeah every way is good except the bad ones :) Oh yes, I fully agree - I want both parts of it, a good ring when it´s not bolted down and when using it, just a loud thump. Some says having the anvil bolted down so that it get´s quiet will affect the rebound in a bad way but I haven´t seen any of these problems so far.

It is a pain to watch him drawing out the shank of the nail with his hand so close to the hardie. Not meant to be nagging but to be safe. Best wishes, Reinier

    It depends entirely on how much you´re used to at drawing when shooting. If you haven´t been shooting with this style before, I suggest that you get a lighter poundage bow, say 30#. That way you´ll have a bow that you can really start practising these shooting techniques with. Once you´ve learned these properly, you can buy a heavier bow for hunting.
