Tissue Covering a Large Model Airplane Wing, A Slightly Different Approach
Переглядів 6 тис.7 місяців тому
Here's a video demonstrating a method to cover a large model airplane wing with tissue. This method can certainly be used for smaller wings as well but larger sheets of tissue can become difficult to handle. This method minimizes the handling of the tissue to help prevent too many wrinkles prior to shrinking the tissue with a mist of water. I'm using Mt. Fuji tissue from Easy Built Models. You ...

Beautiful flying glider!!
Thank you. A fun project. Thanks for watching!
Love that place!
Great little video and plane. Any reason why the rear wing is set under the fuselage on the plans yet in the video it is set on top of it?
Thank you. If you look at the plan, under the rear side view near the tail, the plan shows "STABLIZER" and points to stabilizer part and its location in the top and side view. On the side view, it shows the stabilizer mounted to the top part of the fuselage. You'll also see that location in the photos with the article. Thanks for watching.
Looks nice John!
Sip,icily and minimalism at it’s finest!
Thanks for watching. 🙂
You read my mind regarding the 30” RC version.
HA HA. and it's a fun flyer. Thanks for watching!
Another great fun build that I have to do, probably later. Seems the Fairchild 24, Hollywood Hamilton and the the Spartan Cabin have been vying for fist place. They were an still are on my build list but seems the Hollywood Hamilton snuck in there some how. Great work as always and looking forward to the next build. Gotta try your template process, thanks for the idea. Mike
Super video.
Thank you and thanks for watching.
👌👌👍👍👌👌
Thanks for watching!
Hi John! Thanks for sharing those neat little gliders! Would really be interested in seeing the R/C perform!
Thanks for watching Jeffery. Hopefully some video of the larger one soon.
Oh the joy of a simple chuckie glider… Looking forward to video of the RC version!
Hopefully some video soon the larger one. Thanks for watching.
Wonderful work, im doing a Guillows DR1, can i ask how you did the barrell sleeves on the guns, i have no ideas for them.
You are very observant of details! Those barrels were printed by a friend on a laser cutter. You can make something similar, without the real holes, on a computer printer. Make a rectangle image with the holes and color the holes a lighter color than the barrel. Cut out the rectangle and roll it around a dowel and glue the seam. Good luck with your DR1 and thanks for watching.
Hi John - realy like this tiny wonder of a glider. Where can I find a drawing to build my own ?
There's a link in the description. You may need to cut and paste it into your browser. Have fun and thanks for watching!
Sitting breathless agan watching you surgeon work, thank you for the modeling lesson
You're welcome and thanks again for watching.
The link to the plans no longer works 😢😢
Thanks for letting me know. I've added an additional link, but you may need to cut and paste either address into your search.
The plan is on OuterZone
Well, aren't you a tease? 😂 I'm fascinated by micro-flyers and would love to see more!
HA HA. Fun stuff for sure. I have quite a few more designs like this to share. 😁 Thanks for watching.
Is the RC 30" version ready to post yet???? I would like to know what RC system you used in it PLEASE ? Links? Thanks for the posting this video. This old Fogey really enjoyed it a lot.
Thank you for the comment. I've flown the larger version quite a bit, but I don't really have video and need to get some footage. The radio can be seen in one of the photos at the end of the video. It's a Spectrum 2 channel brick. I'm only seeing this fancier version listed so the one I used may no longer be available. www.spektrumrc.com/product/2-in-1-receiver-and-esc-umx-turbo-timber-evolution/SPMA3194.html
@@Watchingthevideos99 Thank you very much for the reply. I'm sure that others will appreciate the info also. I'll be watching for the 30" video 😃
what a beautiful flight! nice to have seen thanks for watching along! Will you film the big one too? good luck with the hobby and Healthy and friendly greetings from the Netherlands! Rob
Thank you, Rob. Yes, I need to get some video of the larger one flying. I've flown it quite a bit and it's a good flyer. Nice to hear from the Netherlands! Thanks for watching.
I'm sure you'll be very happy with the RC version of this model. Find a small slope with a tiny headwind and you will fly for hours on the smallest battery.
The RC version actually has quite a bit of time on it. I use a very light hi start right in my yard. Flys quite well. It's funny to hear. Because of the balsa fuselage, the linear servos are quite amplified.
This design looks very similar to the Leprechaun designed in the 1940s as a large scale free flight model and currently available as RC model. I have the Dane RC leprechaun v2 and it flies slow and stable but mostly I just love the vintage style.
Yes, familiar with the Leprechaun. A beautiful design! Agree the structure is like a 1940's design. Love seeing them covered in transparent covering. Thanks for watching.
Nice project! I hope you'll show us the RC Version too.
Thank you. Yes, need to get some good flying video footage of the R/C version. Hopefully soon. Thanks for watching!
ooh! ooh! I'm gonna build one!
Yes! Do it. A fun project for sure. Thanks for watching.
Fantastic, lovely design
Thanks for watching!

Donde podría conseguir los planos?
excellent design and execution. looks like about a 40 to 1 glide ratio :p
It certainly does glide well! Thanks for watching!
Very nice simple model with a great glide. Will it make a good tow line model?
It's possible that it could be converted to a towliner. I use a light weight hi start for the larger one and it works great. Thanks for watching!
Will certainly build the model and try it out. How much larger did you make the Hi start version.
@@indoorglidiator3285 It's 2X so 30 inch span.
I miss Ambroid...
3 Rivers Archery sells a nitrocellulose fletching glue that is as close to Ambroid as you can get. I use if for most of my builds. Same color and smell as Ambroid. www.3riversarchery.com/nitrocellulose-adhesive-fletching-glue.html
Two thoughts: One, those old magazines are an absolute treasure. Second, is the repositionable spray really the post-it note juice in a jar that it looks like? I’ve gotta get some of that. That’s a lovely glider.
Not sure about the glue..... haven't tried the post-it note glue. 3M has been making that stuff for a long time. Really like it for jobs like this. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Such a beautiful little glider. I really need to get back to modelling. Can't wait to see the enlarged version fly.
You're welcome! This project would be a great way for you to step back in the hobby. Maybe give one a go! Thanks for watching. Hope to get some video of the larger one soon.
Thank you John! A lovely design, and I'm sure we're all curious as to how the 30" 2ch version flies! 🌟👍
You're welcome. A fun project for sure. I need to get some video of the larger one flying before our weather gets too cold. Thanks for watching!
Stay with free flight!
Always my first choice. 😁 Thanks for watching.
Superb! Reminds of when I was a lad and I made my first full balsa and tissue glider, I made it so well that it flew away, I'll never forget waving goodbye to the tiny dot in the sky!
Great memories! I've lost my share of models over the years also. Thanks for watching!
cute little glider with a Jedelsky wing I will build one
Thanks for watching and have fun!
How often do you guys fly at Durham?
I built 2 about 30 years ago. Great flyers!
This models flight will thrill anyone! Very fine workmanship and Thanks for the video!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
John, thank you for a delightful video and for the link to the plan which I have just printed off. It will be next on my build board, once I have finished the Mini Dakota (Electric Free light). Best wishes, Simon.
You're welcome, Simon. The mini Dakota sounds interesting! Have fun with your Jr.'s Pride and thanks for watching.
Hello sir, floats great, i'm going to try to build a Fokker D7 this way with a small motor and a capacitor. Do you have any tips? Thanks in advance 😊
That sounds like a fun project! Keep it light. I have a video in my channel of a rubber powered D-7. It makes a great flying model. Thanks for watching and have fun.
@@Watchingthevideos99 Thank you sir, i really appreciat your resonse, i will look for the video of the Fokker D7. Greetings from the Netherlands

Maybe some flying pics of the larger version ? A great model !
Yes, several requests for the larger version. Hopefully a video soon. Thanks for watching.
Wow! Nice work and flight!
Thanks for watching!
I want to come over to your house. What a sweet yard! Great video and a really nice glider. Thanks for sharing. -Dan
HA HA. Bring some models. We can have a lot of fun! Thank you for watching Dan.
Oh, that's the one I saw on FaceBook. I didn't know what it was. This was an enjoyable video to watch. It flew well. I got to remeber to buy some 3M adhesive spray from HOBBY LOBBY. That was built simular to one of Sterling Models solid balsa contion models.
Thanks for watching Richard. This was a fun, quick project.
Am I going to have to build a time machine and travel to 1973 to find the plan? On another topic, is that a crumhorn playing in the background?
the link to the plan is in the description. I'm using UA-cam music and have no idea what a crumhorn is. 😂😂😂 Thanks for watching.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Definitely building one of these.
Do it! Lots of fun. Thanks for watching.
Very nice little glider, thank for the share. I'd like to see the larger version fly also when possible. :)
Thank you for the feedback. I need to get some good video footage of the larger one. I'll see what I can do. Thanks for watching.
I was thinking of building the small one and putting one of my Deltang RX's and an actuator for rudder. But then it is so light, it would probably get lost in a thermal, even with full rudder. Oh well. It sure is cute though.
That would be very cool. Maybe on a small ridge in light winds rather than thermalling. Fun stuff! Thanks for watching.
For a novice builder like me that looks like a straight forward build. Nothing to complicated. Is this a towline glider? I was thinking of enlarging it and voila you did. Would love to see both fly.
@@ratride1 you could certainly enlarge and fly as a towliner. At this size, it's really just a "toss" glider. But build one and have some fun with it. Thanks for watching.
Fun little project John, who was JR? Ok, Jr is Junior, checked out the plans on Outerzone 👍🏼
Yes, took me a bit to find that too! Thanks for watching Cliff.
John, I wonder how many will notice the print on the stab and wonder what carbon paper is😂
