Shooting with a 60 year old camera

my presets: www.forrestmankins.com/presets Well, I bought a TLR for the first time. It's a Yashica Mat LM that I got off Ebay for $150, and in this video I have no clue if it works at all. It shoots medium format film in a 6x6, and is super fun for both portraits and landscapes. The dogs and I hop in Big Green and drive into the woods to meet our friend McKenna to take some portraits and drink ...
How and Why I Delete My Photos
Переглядів 2,7 тис.Рік тому
They're not all good, folks.Presets: www.forrestmankins.com/presets Today we are talking about how I delete photos. Why do you delete photos? Do I delete the bad photos? Why wouldn't I? These are the questions in life. How do I store photos? Using a RAID to store photos. Editing in Lightroom. Client shoot for photography. Delete your bad photos because they are bad and also stink.

I'm showing you a whole bunch of snaps from that trip and talking about my experience with the camera. So far I've got the Xpro-3 and a 23mm f2 - but I'll be trying out more lenses very...

Coffee & Film / Your Questions Answered
The ‘stay on the bus!’ analogy was completely fresh to my ears, thanks for sharing. I hope you’ll one day continue with your UA-cam channel. Your advice is so sound!
Love your videos. Thanks for sharing your contemplations, I could really relate to it.
67ii is trash - 6x7 is the king. latest means nothing
I have collected a number of vintage Leica R lenses (I go for the ROM versions so all data is collected) and I find R lenses with teh SL2-S is just a spectacular combination . . the focus peaking and low light capabilities of the SL2-S combined with the R optics and manual focus enables me to generate breathtaking images under a wide range of light conditions. I have R lenses . . 180 Elmarit, 100 macro, 80 Lux, 50 Lux . . . . the R . . SL2-S combination, for me, elevates the joy of photography to the highest level I have ever experienced . . .
That's a great video! Which product is the camera bag you were wearing in the video?
AMEN TO THAT!
First of all, how do you not have more subs? Second of all I’m picking up my SL2-S tomorrow. There’s a Panasonic 50 mm 1.8 on there already, but I’ve been very intrigued by the Voigtlander Nokton. Any thoughts?
Bro cooling the screen😂
#3, this applies to so many different things as well. Limitations are what breeds true creativity and forces to put extra thought behind what you’re doing, and imo you end up with a better result in the end.
All pentax 67 lenses perform best between f:4-f:11
Is it worth buying the T2 for 1k or worth spending the 1,5k more and getting the T3?
Love the video! I went to snag the preset bundle but I dont see the add to cart on the page anymore. Is the bundle still available for purchase?
Rosie is wonderful. A beautiful, natural soul.Forrest, what are your favorite adapted lenses between 35-50mm? Bought the SL2-S for the secound time today :D.
Great video…subbed.
This is so great. You're essentially using the Marie Kondo method for your photos. I always deliberate about which to delete - shifting the focus to what you LOVE makes this so much easier.
Awesome workflow video. Thank you for the detailed explanation.
i agree with your opinion when comparing them with your Canon. I owned both T3 and Canon 1V + 50mm 1.2, I cannot carry and do not want to carry 1V around because of its size and weight even though it is far more professional. The T3 is simple but still have the quality that a professional camera will give you, not to mention it has a built-in flash. It is a point and shot but has great lens, a meter system, a AF system.
yesss you converted someone too an Rfiver i love this camera
I had T2 for couple of months and I hated it. I had so many out of focus shots and it was embarrassing to explain to my friends why the photos from our trips and parties taken with my fancy camera are that bad. I used Yashica T4 prior to that and loved it. I got rid of Contax and apologized to my Yashica for abandoning her.
Hey Forrest, nice video. About six months ago I just finally got fed up with my Fujifilm X100V as the daily driver. It just would not focus where I wanted it to consistently and I just kept thinking about the simplicity of shooting manual focus back in the day. I use Nikon Z7II's for work and when I found a Voigtlander M mount adapter for Nikon Z it was like a gift from heaven. I started shooting my very old Leica M glass with it for personal work and haven't gone back since. I don't need a Q2 any longer, I don't need a digital M. I have 35 and 50 Summicron's from the early eighties, a 21/3.4 and a 90 Tele-Elmarit. I need to play with the 21 more and the 90 is Ok. The the 35 and 50 though are gems and are my daily go to lenses. One thing I would have loved to have seen here in your video was the side by side of the full frame image. I always wonder if there is a little bit of magic in the SL2s as well? The beauty of the Z7II is that it is really small and pretty light. Files are great, but I do wonder about the SL2s. I hear the screens are amazing for focusing the old glass... Thoughts? Thanks, great to watch this. d:-)
Stop!!! Ik it’s looks the same I just really want a leica😭😭😭😭
Check out some SD card holders. They have some nice affordable ones that transfer data as well. I got mine for like 40 bucks.
No way Im spending $6000 for leica😅, its just like branded hermes bag u buy it because u think its exclusive and limited💁🏻♂️
The 5D Mark 4 has 2 slots
Is it the same for buying lenses?
So true! And something that I’ve been reflecting on lately as I begin setting limits on my screen time. Thank you for posting this, Forrest!
I know this video is a year old, but I just came across it. I wanted to make sure I understand your tip about focus, if you have a minute? If you're shooting a portrait, and someone's nose is the plane closest to the lens ahead of their eyes, would you start locking focus on the nose, you mean? And then easing into the eyes? Sorry for possibly having a hard time grasping that tip. Thank you for the video.
You lost me at I like canon colors better. Enjoy man
We don’t gotta agree, and thanks!
Which lense do you use man? Beautiful video!!!
*for the photos
I’m doubtful that anybody would get anything from this video given that you insist on flashing up the images instead of giving viewers a chance to look for more than a second.
You’ll have to make a better video!
I would be interested to hear or see the experience inside the viewfinder for manually focusing. Is it quite easy with the SL2?
It’s sublime with the SL2s
@@ForrestMankinsI just bought a SL2-s and I can agree with you, such a nice camera. It feels like a great mix of using an old manual focus style film camera and a new modern camera. The quality of the images is really good. 24mp is enough for the work I do and also saves on storage. Super stoked with the camera.
Super cool shoot! Was the video shot on a iphone?
Half iPhone half Leica sl2s!
Two primary difference between T2 and T3: 1. T2 uses active infrared autofocus, basically the same system used by almost all point-n-shoot cameras. If it misses focus, that's because the user failed to properly select his focus target for the camera to lock onto. The T3 uses two autofocus systems, depending on how far the subject is from the camera. At closer subject distances, it uses the same active infrared system as the T2. At longer distances, it switches to a contrast comparison system, like that used on nearly all 35mm SLR autofocus cameras, because it is marginally more accurate at long distances. The more complex system of the T3 probably accounts for its slower focus operation. 2. The 38mm lens on the T2 is good, but the 35mm lens on the T3 is distinctly better. The manual focus on the T2 mainly deals with situations which the infrared system cannot handle, as mentioned. The Infinity setting is intended to give a tiny focus improvement generally. In autofocus mode, the system sets the focus of the lens to put infinity subjects at the rear focus point determined by the depth of field resulting from the aperture to be used for that exposure. This not true infinity focus. If you set manual focus to infinity, that's what you get.
Dear Forrest Mankins, you're such a big inspiration for me, I just want to say thank you so much for inspiring me. I was just wondering the photo you took of the production guy ,what film did you use? Again, thank you so much.
have you had any regrets not going with the SL2 with the larger MP sensor? Im considering the SL2-S So just wondering.
None at all! Image resizing software is really good and idk I haven’t felt like I need more for commercial work
been rewatching and this is hitting me hard lately. have a solution yet? lol
Nice video
Dude, you missed a call during the intro
I completely agree. I've tried to do this more recently, and you're right. I have so many thoughts and ideas I wouldn't have had otherwise. Side note: how beautiful is it there!
I have shot and owned all the major brands I love the Canon system the best, not perfect but no system is perfect as you have pointed out in your video.
Do you use a faster card in slot one and a slower card in slot 2, (sony camera). Or do you like to always use fast, more expensive cards for both slots? And how many times can you reformat a card before it wears out? Great video, you are clear and explain things well.
I shoot Fuji X-T4 with two cards and I use a fast(er) card for RAW and a slow(er) card for jpeg without any issues (I usually shoot single shot. Not burst mode)
Kaka Santi!!
Great advice, I’ve been seeing deals on eBay and I wanted to double hence why I came across your video so thanks somuch!
the xh1 with the zeiss touit 32mm is great. that lens has a very unique look.
Bro, you talk a lot...
Go read a book then 😂
what kinda dogs are these?
This is what happens when you buy used stuff anywhere without a guarantee, Always buy from sellers that offer a guarantee if that is what you want. After 30 days is crazy amount of time to return something, the seller has no idea what was done to it. Just a sellers perspective sorry if i sound rude not trying to be!
Hey, friend! Thank you so much for the review. I have a friend who is selling the Pentax 6x7 with the 105 2.4 and a few rolls of film for $700. This would be my first medium format camera. I am purely a hobbyist and wanted to see if you felt it was worth getting the second version of this camera, or if starting with the older model would probably be a good idea because it would be cheaper? I’m not going to be using it for work. It would purely be for my own shits and giggles.
what an amazing video, thanks
Never had a problem that a seller has not fixed the situation. Either replaced it or refunded it. I just hate that eBay and PayPal went their separate ways. Then you had double protection. I generally only buy gear from Japan....
