As a DLC-Less hoi4 player, it is painfull watching videos and going to download mods when you realise they require DLC. Most big mods like R56, Kaiserreich/redux, 8 years war, etc don't technically require but I'm assuming it's much better with the intended game mechanics actually in the game rather than locked behind a paywall

Just wait until you get to try the Celestial Resistance. I think you will greatly enjoy it, as the Great War is not the sole focus of the nation, and it stands fairly well on its own. The only reason why it wasn't provided in the early access build was because a major mechanic in the path that players are most likely to get (Equestrian puppet) was not functional and rendered that path mostly unplayable. As for the reworks of other, more important nations like you said, they are coming. We are choosing to release these ones now because they are nearly done, and because we don't want to make people wait even longer to play new content, even if it isn't for the fan favorite nations.

Like the USSR in the base game, I think having a path for Stalliongrad where you overthrow the Communists and either go monarchist or fascist would be interesting.
