Runway Gen-3 is amazing--but let's talk about Credits and Iteration
While we are entering a new world of amazing text-to-video with the actual availability of Runway Gen-3 (yes, I'm throwing shade at Sora), it's important to look at some shifts: loss of motion brush, no image to video, and of course, the credit situation.
00:00 Introduction to honest Gen-3 review
00:41 Pricing and credits
01:45 How is generating video different in Gen-3 vs Gen-2
02:21 Gen-3 Prompting Guide is very helpful

THE FIRST 9 PROMPTS I USED IN GEN-3
1. Follow shot: The camera follows a weird furry creature as it walks into a vibrant nightclub. Colorful lights and a lively atmosphere fill the scene. Camera whips around dynamically and stops on a closeup of the creature's face as it smiles.
2. Hyperspeed follow shot: The camera races through a neon-lit city, dodging skyscrapers and vehicles. It follows a sleek humanoid robot in a black trench coat leaping off a building and gliding through the air. Cinematic, with vibrant neon lights and bustling city life. The camera slows dramatically, circling the robot as it lands on a rooftop, revealing its illuminated eyes. Slow zoom on the robot's face, capturing determination in its glowing eyes.
3. cinematic close-up of a realistic indie film star ascending from a field into the air as their eyes glow eerily
4. top view timelapse video of a hand drawing an art work with colored pencils, the artwork shows a cat destroying a city with laser beams shooting from its eyes
** thank you Anu the inspo: x.com/anukaakash/status/1806963912686047280 **
5. a man walking forward on a city street transforms into a floral topiary bush in the shape of himself
6. Low angle static shot: The camera is angled up at a woman wearing all orange as she stands in a tropical rainforest with colorful flora. The dramatic sky is overcast and gray.
#runwaygen3 #gen3alpha #runwaygen3alpha #aivideo #aivideocreation #honestreview
7. Slow zoom-in: A lone artist in a cluttered studio, surrounded by canvases and paint. The camera focuses on the artist's face, revealing a mix of concentration and passion as they add final touches to a painting. Warm, diffused lighting highlights the textures of paint on their hands and the determination in their eyes, capturing the essence of creative inspiration.
8. Top view timelapse video of an old man's hand drawing a Cubist art work with colored pencils
9. SnorriCam of a man running down the middle of a New Orleans street as he's being pursued by a giant swamp creature, the camera is focused on his face

    I guess it’s a reflection of the real cost to Runway of running the servers, so might have to wait a little longer for the tech to get more efficient and cheaper to run.

      Agree, there are definitely hardware and engineering costs involved. It would be nice if you could choose "relaxed generations" for the same credits as Gen-2. I don't need things super fast, I want more generations.

  • @NexeronMedia
    @NexeronMedia 3 дні тому

    When I first tried Runway, before Gen-3 was released, I was shocked at how many credits you got for your money. Now, with Gen-3, it makes even less sense. The price might have been justified if each generation perfectly matched the prompt, but that’s not the case. Additionally you have to upscale and enhance each clip in another software. The 2250 credits in the included plan equals 450 seconds of Gen-2 ! That's not much at all unless you are trying to make 15 seconds UA-cam shorts. Has anyone tried the unlimited plan and the explore mode at the relaxed rate? This might be a solution if the generation time isn't too long, at least you get unlimited generations.

      You could make a full movie but I don't know how well you'd be able to do consistent characters without image-to-video. Midjourney and others are getting better at image to video but if you can start Gen-3 with an image, it's going to be rough.

    really great vid, love the gen3 prompt guide that was a cool tip. i like how you looked at it from a neutral perspective and described your personal experience with the iterations you actually get vs price points.very pricey, but thats not to hate on the amazing technology its just like how you said, we need iterations to make the complete videos thats just how the process works since the video gens can be so random you need to keep rerolling the same prompt or tweaking it or whatever so there no way around it, and thats part of the fun is making a buncha variations and tweaking it or getting something you didnt expect that looks weird and making it work, just very pricey if you actually wanted to spam generate theres no way unless your like the high tier plan which is more than my car insurance cost, but supply and demand i guess, they have the supply, the demand is there so its fair business

    I subbed to Runway for 2 months then cancelled due to costs, it's just not affordable for the average content creator, especially when you take into account all the other AI subscriptions, I might be able to create GREAT content with it, but, I won't be able to afford to live, or even EAT the way prices are atm ha ha

    • @aivideoschool
      @aivideoschool 4 дні тому

      100%! There are so many other more affordable options that make it so you can hone your skills and create more work. I feel like they're going to start losing a lot of individual creators and be stuck with business users who are just making boring and safe stock video generations.

  • @_Clivey
    @_Clivey 5 днів тому

    I have to agree with you on the costs. Even the most basic AI sites are now pumping up the price and i don't think its because the server costs are getting more expensive, they are just taking advantage of more people wanting to try it, therefore they are thinking short term gains but long term it becomes off putting. I see the amount of companies offering these tools dropping as people start to walk away from them because of cost. I watched your Wonder Dynamics video the other day and for the price $25 a month for that quality of output, no thanks.

  • @artvsmachine3703
    @artvsmachine3703 5 днів тому

    You are right about pricing and who gets to use this fantastic new medium for creative expression. Those prices aren't worth it. I did a few tries and couldn't use anything I generated, so went back to Gen-2. Because one needs a lot of iterations and experimentation -- rolling the dice -- I have to have an unlimited plan. $95 is a lot, and I think Dream Machine was around $600!! I use Haiper for $30, and I get outstanding results overall. I only use Runway when Haiper can't do what I want, and for lip-syncing. My $35 Runway plan runs out fast, and I had to do a $10 booster last month, and that's just for selective generations. I won't be using Gen-3 unless it has more controls. And even if we can make video using this technology, it's hard to get it seen. Some of my best work can't break 1k views. Check out my channel for some next level AI creations.

    Excellent presentation and thank you for keeping it real. I completely agree with what you’ve said considering pricing and restrictions. It’s for this very reason that I prefer to stick to my free tools that somehow work quite well for me. Once this stuff eventually becomes easier accessible, I might start working with it. Yeah, it's too pricey. I did most my AI animations with Haiper when it was free. Now I use their paid plan. Haven't really found a better free solution. Pika has the most bang for your buck, but the quality isn't good enough in my experience.

      @@artvsmachine3703 Yes, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Honestly, I prefer using SVD locally because it’s free and allows me to perform as many generations as I want. I would love to try Luma more seriously, but it’s challenging to get a good sense of it with the limitations of its free plan. With a 7-hour queue (rough estimate), if the result is not what I expected, I have to wait another 7 hours... lol Considering its high price, I would prefer to have a solid test run before investing my money.

    Fascinating. I mean, I think at this stage one could do better with image to video and compiling a dozen short animations, but this was done with one text prompt. Give it another few months or a year! [P.S. check out some of my AI vids, which tend to do themselves in the more original they are and the more I deviate from templates and tutorials].

      Exactly! Image clarity is better when you start with Midjourney etc. After seeing so many slow motion, perfectly framed shots, I actually like the old school energy and rawness to this more (for now at least)

      @@aivideoschool It's a new medium and the range of uses is off the charts. I see what you like about his kind of rendering.

    This is fantastic, Mike! I hadn’t even considered using Luma this way!!!!

    this is interesting but in the end, like many of the clips I have tried to generate, they become "cartoony." When you extended your clip, the astronaut at the end became a cartoon character. How can you get around Luma making them cartoons?

      It's so random with the cartoon thing. I just made one of an animated mural and it added pedestrians who looked very realistic and a nightclub where people looked real. "Astronaut" always ends up looking like animation in my experience with Luma.

    I can't wait to see what Haydn does with Runway Gen-3 alpha. In the demo video where the wig falls on the bald guy, he goes through three stages of emotion (sad, surprised, happy). This capability literally didn't exist one week ago.

      Genuinely excited to work with it... that's if it doesn't turn out to be another endlessly-teasing SORA 😆
