Argyle fan surprised and impressed we are 37th with 43,596, unfortunately we are still the only City in ENgland never to have played in the Top Flight!
I was a😂t a Chelsea cup game v Aston Villa in the 1960s with 72,000+ attendance, but could see very little, except by jumping up and down!!! H & S ???
You have really opened a can of worms here! Southampton were originally 'St Mary's Young Men's Association'. Southampton St Mary's came a few years later when they joined the Southern League. St Mary's Church is 400m from where Saints now play - hence St Mary's Stadium.
Great stuff well researched . My favourite has to be Walsall Town Swifts . I I I😅
You should include sides not currently in 4 divisions
Would be a mammoth task, not against the idea though.
“I have Merlin’s F.A. Premier League 04 sticker collection available. • 2 sealed packs • 1 opened pack All items are in excellent condition. Let me know if you’re interested!”
Doncaster Rovers is listed as 31,749 but should be 37,149. This would then be 48th in the list.
Chelsea hold the record league attendance for a team playing on their own pitch....and don't the twats just hate it when their "established 2003" comments bite them on the arse.
What an intro. Teletext was my only format of getting the scores for many years. Also, Italian football was my gateway into football as it's was free on Sunday and highlights on Saturday 👌🥰
Uppingham town should been rutland one the oldest club in rutland won Peterborough league many times and winning the Leicestershire district cups a lot more
Interesting post, thank you. You could follow it up with a graph showing which years feature most prominently. (Not many from this century, obviously).
I was at no26 palace vs burnley...so many crammed in and many thousand still stuck outside unable to enter
Team of the 80s, lol. BHAFC.
So was I, incredible night! Now decades of wasted potential 😢
@@TomClarkSouthLondon Potential? Most Palace fans don't have the potential to go to the toilet on their own, BHAFC.
Over 100 years of Football before the Premier league so this is another pointless survey
Nearly as pointless as your comment ? 🤷🏻♂️ seeing as he covers 1886 to 2024? Are you unable to read 🤣
Hi Stephen, if you watch the video you can see that we have taken into consideration every season from when the Football League first began in the 1880s, The theme of the video is ranking the highest finishing position of all of the current 92 PL/EFL teams. In fact that’s mentioned within a few seconds of the video when we list the historical names of each level, and you’ll see the vast majority of the teams highest positions occurred during the early to mid 20th century. Thanks for the comment though.
@Retro-Football-Club as I was going to apologise as soon as the video started my mistake.
None of them near the Scottish records. 118,000 at Ibrox Rangers v Celtic.
Derby and Sunderland seem to be the away team a lot
If you lived there you’d do anything to get away from there
City number 1 👀
In 1934!
@@sydnorth5868vast majority of those attendances are in the early to mid 20th century
@@sentinel8617 Given as City's capacity dropped below 80,000 in the early 50s its not really a shock.... What's interesting is that although Bolton's record crowd, offically is just under 70k, ironically against City, its believed that there might have been as many at 85k that attended Burnden Park for an FA Cup game against ironically Stoke(given as they played at Maine Rd for City;s record)that ended up becoming the Burnden Park disaster. Also worth noting United's record crowd is off its 81,962 at Maine Rd... Grimsby and Wolves hold the record for a crowd at Old Trafford, not Manchester United(although as that wasn't a home game for either club wouldn't be included in this list).
Even now for when we are at Kenilworth road at Luton we are only getting 11,000 and change for a sell out and that includes safe standing section now so how we got just over 30,000 in there. They must have been crammed in, how that was ever safe
It wasn't! Most of these records were set between the 1920's and 1950's when the stadiums had grown to a reasonable size, but 90%+ of the supporters were standing. I am tempted to ask how did Charlton ever get 75,032 people into The Valley?
@@sydnorth5868 The Valley was the largest club ground in England until Charlton left. When they came back it was all seated as was every other ground.
@@sydnorth5868 east terrace could hold about about 45000 but remember reading that there was still spaces with their record attendance, the south terrace behind goal was pretty big too 20,000 or possibly more, at its biggest
Scott Carson was brilliant at Derby and should have had an other England call up. What I didn't like was that he took off his Champions' League runners up medal as soon as he was presented to him after playing zero games. Apart from that he is a great 'keeper.
Barrow spent fifty years outside the football league from the early seventies & their historical level is league one . 🤨
Yep, we are correct. 1901-1915 they flitted between 3 levels of regional Lancashire Non League 1921-1958 they spent a total of 31 straight seasons in Division 3, of which is now League One, obviously not including the War years. (Level 3) 1959-1966 - 9 years spent in Division 4, modern day League Two (Level 4) 1967-1970 - 3 more seasons in League One (Level 3) 1970-1972 - 2 more seasons in League Two (Level 4) 1972-2020 - 25 seasons in the Northern Premier League, Conference North and National League North (Level 6) and 21 seasons in the Alliance Premier League, Conference National (Level 5) 2020-2024 - 5 seasons in League Two (level 4) So yeah although combined they’ve been a non league team for half of their history, they’ve spent more time at League One level, than they have at any other level. League One - 34 seasons League Two - 14 seasons National League - 21 seasons National League North - 25 seasons
I didn’t have to look at my team Watford . I knew 2nd tier lol. We are the most championship team ever.
I raise you Bristol City!
Surprised by quite a few of these.😮
Merry Christmas!❤❤❤
And to you Ian, all the best 🎄
Liverpool originally applied to be called Everton they were never granted permission to play as Everton because there was already Everton... no matter how well they do it's always worth reminding them that Liverpool was their 2nd choice name.
Now somebody needs to make a Football Manager save with these names and coats and publish it. Bonus points if for all the other major leagues as well (Stade St Germain, Football Sky Madrid, Milan Cricket and Football, Wilhelmina Rotterdam. Today's major German clubs are lacking, being founded under their name, but Falke Eppendorf for Hamburg would be an example).
I saw edgar davids play for barnet. His long range passing stood out. At the end of the game, he stopped the young players going for the tunnel. They were to acknowledge the crowd. Class!.
The dodgy thing about opening a thirty year old packet of Premier League stickers is that you could get a sticker of a player who is now dead.
It’s a very morbid outlook but you are absolutely right. Think there is at least 13/14 players in that album who have passed away.
Bad season for Arsenal. Better times would soon follow...
00:30 i can see that you bought the pack from Norway, nice! 1995 price: 4 kr is £ 0,28.
Wigan Athletic were Wigan Borough, till 1932.
Different clubs, Athletic were formed after Borough folded.
What, no shinny?
Gutted ☹️
Those Villa home and Palace away kits though.
Great idea loved it, please no rubber gloves in the future😳🤔
All about protecting the stickers from finger marks and keeping them mint 👍🏻
@ washing your hands is all you need given how long you will handle them, but it’s a free country👍
No Kneeling back then!...Football ended not long after.
Great video, I love the early merlin stickers and cards from Premier leagues early years. I even collect signed copies of them so this video is perfect as also Alec Mathie was my brothers favourite player growing up
Great video ❤
Plz stickers premier league 2012 . Fantastic video
Bringing back my childhood!Fantastic keep it up 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
What a great idea for a video. Hope to see more sticker pack openings 👍
Forest were actually Forest.
Do a list of highest position ever reached, not just end of season please :-)
Sorry , a ridiculous suggestion
@ I just wanted to see Millwall at the top of the league in October 1988😁 Worth a try, not every team has reached the very highest place🤷🏻!
How can a teams best finish be 2nd in level 3? Surely they were playing level 2 the following year?
Only the winning team got promoted that season. We did research whether it was accurate before we posted.
@Retro-Football-Club Thanks, yes, I realize now it was decades ago when things were different! Excellent video! Sorry I doubted you!
Interesting that a lot of teams were formed from church names
There are nine or ten clubs here whose best ever season saw them get relegated.
Didn't Port Vale start out as Burslem Port Vale?
Nope. They were formed as Port Vale in 1876, although some dispute they were formed as Port Vale Victoria in 1879. Either way the club didn’t become Burslem Port Vale until 1884.
Can you please add the names of teams where the name isn’t in the badge. Thank You.
Do you not know all these teams. Where u from?
@ I know the names of all the teams in the league but not always from their badges alone. Why would I if I don’t support these teams? It’s like, I probably know the names of all the countries in the World but show me the flags of most of them and I haven’t a clue.
@@davidhamm7909 My bad I guess its different types of memory. If you showed me a flag I would instantly know the country and point it out on a map but llways mix up the names
As an MK Dons customer I came here for the comments and was not disappointed.
Cheltenham Town technically started as Cheltenham AFC, but…meh 😂
Interesting can’t seem to find anything on that on main sources.
@Retro-Football-Club the Trust are finding info out all the time and just very recently discovered that the clubs earliest known game is now 31st December 1884, as Cheltenham AFC, when it had previously been thought the club came into existence in 1887. So, 140 in a couple of weeks time.
Mark Allen the snooker player had previously tried out for football clubs Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest, not sure if he ever played for them!
Middlesbrough was called Ironopolis before it was Middlesbrough. They played at Paradise Fields, the corner or which became Ayresome Park. There's still a bit of wall there from Ayresome Park, the rest just houses.
Great comment, Yeah we looked into this one before hand it was called Middlesbrough FC first, then several members left to form Middlesbrough Ironopolis after a dispute, technically they are listed as a separate club. Both teams debuted professionally in 1899, then they ended up merging. Hence why we used Middlesbrough FC in the video
Coventry fan here and a lot of mentions in this video! Sky blue army!
