(sgtc vid 8)Trying out my new power supply in this vid. It has a toroidal tranfrormer that I added some secondary windings to and a couple of 50 amp rectifiers connected to a pc heat sink which are charging up 2 series two paralel 20,000uF 40v capacitors. Performance is a lot better with this power supply compared to my smart supply. Thanks for watching.
Drawing an arc with my new transformer 4100v 3kva

I just picked this up today and am trying it out with a microwave transformer as a ballast. Its pulling about 35 amps when drawing an arc. Gonna use this on my tesla coil eventally.

Deleted the ballast thereby increasing the chooch factor. I can only give it all of the beans for a short time as I am hitting nearly 30 amps from the wall. I need to get a big microwave transformer now. Big thanks to Electromagnetic Farce who gave me lots of tips. ua-cam.com/channels/AnQr_9L0kfV5iJndNXFMQg.html I rewound my primary and feedback yesterday and put them on a nice 6 inch pvc form ...

VTTC Vid #7 What's up you epic fortnite gaymers. Just trying out the vttc after making a few changes. Raised the feedback coil to flush with the bottom of the secondary and also raised the primary a bit and added a tap system. Seems to do best at 28 turns. Going to delete the taps because there is corona discharge coming from them.

VTTC Vid #6 I got my interrupter working finally and just wanted to upload some quick footage to show it off. I made an opto isolator out of an LED and a photo transistor and am triggering a 2n222 transistor which is triggering the gate of the silicon controlled rectum-fryer(50RIA120) I have a grounded wire 18 inches above and its hitting it intermittently

VTTC Vid #5 I made several cosmetic changes as well as added my dc filament supply as well as the soft start. I had about 50 nails or so in the piece of wood and was trying to get it to arc across all of them to a grounded piece of metal with no success. Still looked pretty neat. Tube is glowing nicely. measured the resonating frequency yesterday and its about 420khz.

(sgtc vid 7)In this video I'm going to show how I have my tesla coil hooked up. I'm not much of a carpenter. Primary coil is 2 turns of 8 gauge wire, spark gap is made of angle brackets and cabinet knobs. I used plywood instead of the thin wood that came in the kit. Hello, I would like to ask whether you need to tune the TC for the right resonant frequency or if it’s self tuning
😎👍
where is the link for the tesla coil
Here is a link for an identical one on amazon. Exact same kit. Tesla Coil DIY Kit, PEMENOL Touchable Plasma Ball Spark Gap Arc Generator for Physics Teaching, Arc Plasma Artificial Lighting Science Experiment Model for College High School Education a.co/d/aqHBILk
Is that purple plasma from the Nitrogen because of your lack of vacuum? And why not use heavy-walled borosilicate instead of the mason jar?
Yeah, the electrons travel a ways in the partial vacuum and then collide with the gas molecules which do some science thing that results in light being produced. Different gasses make different colors in partial vacuum.. I'm going to try water vapor next, I watched a neat video where a guy used it and It wa a very nice silver color. I'm using the mason jar because its what I had nearby. I'm a total noob at glass and any glass blowing. Should prob get an x ray detector before i play with this much more.
A peice of tungsten in between and you will get some x rays
I had a lot of fun putting large lightbulbs of different types on top of the Tesla coil. The trick to keep them from burning out is to get some aluminum tape and stick it near the breakout points and the bulb will fill with plasma and it won’t burn a hole in the glass.
That is dangerous
Yeah it def is lol.
@@JoshHopkinsYT one wrong move and you’d be dead before you know you had an accident
@@themadscientist40k Thanks
Very nice. Probably pumping out some X-rays too
Yeah i think it might be. Need to get myself a good affordable radiation detector. ⚡😎😸
@@JoshHopkinsYT Or you could just restrain it with a yoke like they do on the old CRT television sets
@@JoshHopkinsYT i’ve done some really cool high-voltage experiments with small picture tubes. You can turn them into a high voltage capacitor. there’s actually quite a few interesting things you can do with them if you wire them up in interesting ways
😎👍👍👍
Very neat, I'd like to see you put something in-between the electron beam, perhaps see how it reacts or causes the wave to deflect - post an update when you get higher vacuum!
That's a good idea, i'll defintely try that. I'm going to do some higher power stuff and test the limits of my jars and my hot glue insulation(nst, flyback transformer) , i'll definitely record those too, but I will be getting a real vacuum pump sometime in the future. Ty for checking out my channel :)
@@JoshHopkinsYT Seems like you're doing a lot of neat things around there, I'm sure others too would enjoy watching more - be careful with those jars / vacuum / heat - at least always wear eye protection for that one time you least expect anything haha - looking forward to more, volt on!

wow nice video <3
Hey thanks for the video. Could you leave a link to the capacitors you used. I’m having a hard time finding them
Sure, the exact capacitors don't matter as long as they are high voltage and tbh i don't know if its saving anything but Im using several. Here is the link for the blue capacitors that i'm using www.ebay.com/itm/193050930981 I think i was using 40pF caps. Also I have some 6n8 1600v caps that I like as well but didnt really show in the video. But if you just order like 20 of those then use two on your zvs driver input and maybe a couple on each side of your switch it would be good. The theory is that without the caps, the wires could be charged and discharged rapidly and it could be harmful to the zvs driver and back feed into ur power supply. By adding capacitance to the wires, it seems that it would be harder for the wires to become too charged and discharged, because you can only transmit so much charge per cycle.. So basically you end up wtih less noise back feeding into ur zvs and power supply. IMO we need these.
Also I show some 40v 20,000uF capacitors that I got used on ebay. got 5 for 40 dollars. Altho I'm just using my smart power supply and not actually using a proper transformer that i rectify to DC with.
Excellent Work Josh! You can get to 28" by detuning a bit further. Lower freq on primary. Beware of impedance arcing though
Ok, im at 28 turns now. If i detuned would it be more likely to have a primary/secondary strike, especially if im touching the output? Obtained a nice microwave yesterday with a huge transformer, excited to try that out. Ty mucho again :)
@@JoshHopkinsYT try the new mot first. Could try adding or subtracting doubler capacitance
@@KDewees91 ok. I have 12 mocs. Do u think thats overkill?

😎 need to build a mains synchronous staccato now mate to fire at the start of the ramp or sync you signal generator with the mains 👍👍
Yes sir, that's definitely on the list of next things to do on here. Also I can now add a second MOT :) Ty for watching. Idk if I can sync this with mains but its defintely worth looking into, it does have an input as well as the two outputs. I haven't really messed iwth it much but ultimately I'm going to want to put a steve ward style dual 555 interrupter. Thanks again for all of your help and also the suggestion on the scr :)
@@JoshHopkinsYT no problem mate
Are the bulbs used for anything other than light?
Yes, they act as the grid leak resistor. They are easier to get than a proper high value resistor and they look cooler too imo
yay about time <3
what changes did you make to the schematic, and are you running it off of 60hz or 50hz?
Hey thanks for commenting. I am using a single MOT instead of two and am running it at 60 hz. Also i'm using a 30amp switching power supply and giving the filament 12.9 volts DC. I have been using a 16" coil with 1050 turns and added a bit of top load to get the best result. I just got a 12 inch 750 turn coil of the same size wire and diameter(26 awg and on a 3.5 inch form) Haven't tried it with the 12 inch secondary coil yet, i'm expecting to have to reduce the amount of turns on the primary, just am taking my time before I do anything. Thinking about making a tap system. Im sure there's way more that I can get out of it from a single MOT. Also I'm using a second MOT as a ballast. Im using an auto transformer too, goes upt o 146v. I'm also using two 75 watt 120v incandescent bulbs in series as my grid leak resistor because i couldnt' get ahold of a 240v 150w bulb. I measured the capacitance of my doorknob caps and wrote on them with permenant marker also that way its easier to just swap them out for higher value since they go from 450 to 470pf, not a huge difference but its something. Thanks for looking and I have been really meaning to get out and work ont his thing again, eventually i'm going to add an interrupter and a second MOT to the voltage doubler but only after I get the primary and secondary more finely tuned.
@@JoshHopkinsYT try removing one of the lightbulbs. he was running on 240v 50hz and we're on 120v 60hz.
@@EthannCraftt Yes Im aware of my country's line freqyency. You need 150 watts worth of resistor at 240v, 120 woudl prob still work ok but you will need the 240 once you go to the 6000v on the plate i'm pretty sure. Seems to be working just fine. It really needs tuned more than anything.
@@JoshHopkinsYThm, ill have to try a few things whenever i build this circuit up myself. but my reasoning behind it is that he drew the lightbulb as an inductor, which if my understanding is correct means that he's using it as an inductive choke, so two in series would change the inductance and therefore the behavior, so ill definitely try only a single 75w bulb. worst case scenario if im wrong is that the output gets a bit smaller, which can be easily fixed by adding it back, no biggie.
@@EthannCraftt The lightbulb is being used as a resistor on the grids 1 and 2, adjusting the resistance would change the duty cycle. I see what you mean about that looking like an inductor tho
🤣❤👍
Awesome good work 👍
Awesome! I gotta get back to fixing mine after I finish the VDG, this video should make that easier.

Thank you so much. I have been trying to figure all this stuff out since I got the coil but I couldn’t so thank you so much. Hopefully this will be the first step in building my large rotary spark gap coil that I have.
You're welcome! Make sure to record it. Also that rotary sgtc sounds cool too, hope to see some of that in the future. Good luck man and if you have any questions I'm here. Also forgot to mention you should really insulate the flyback transformer from the wood, I used hot glue and bulit a platform of glue and rubber about 1 cm high to insulate it which i didnt show in the video.
Thanks for all the tips. And I’m excited for the rotary sgtc too. It will probably shoot up to a few foot long arcs hopefully
