  • @NMLife22

    If you are not using the tip outs then you overpaid for what is essentially a cargo trailer with a kitchen. The tip outs in my opinion are the only reason to buy one of these.

    • @TheAndersenAdventures
      @TheAndersenAdventures Місяць тому

      @NMLife22 The plan is to use then eventually and build out hard sides. We do use the tip outs in the Summer as porches and it's nice. The full aluminum cage, the fact the kitchen was already built, an AC unit, a fan.. were also big reasons for choosing the trailer we did. We have a cargo trailer as well, and I can tell you the cargo trailer would not have endured full time living for this long. We didn't buy the trailer expecting to not use the tip outs, but we quickly found out how important security/temp regulation is and decided against them. Still love it, still live in it.

    • @NMLife22

      @@TheAndersenAdventures with the tip outs open is it not able to maintain temp? Heating and cooling?

    • @TheAndersenAdventures
      @TheAndersenAdventures 14 днів тому

      @NMLife22 Not in extreme weather for long. A weekend of camping is tolerable, but living full time isn't. In 100F+ degree weather, the AC running on high it only cools to about 80 with tipouts open, Which is okay. In weather where it's below freezing for any length of time, we would have frost on the tent beds on the inside. The heat strip is a joke, so we used a ceramic plug in heater when plugged in. To be honest, we've never used the wood stove with the tent beds so I can't speak for that. The biggest battle has been moisture and privacy. Again, we are full time in it. For a weekend of camping I think it's great.

    How is the insulation against heat? Can it handle 100° heat? Also does the a/c cool it off quickly. Looking heavily into an intech.

    • @TheAndersenAdventures
      @TheAndersenAdventures Місяць тому

      The trailer can handle 100 degree heat with the tipouts closed but the AC will only drop the inside temps down to 75-80 if it's over 100 outside. With the tipouts open, the ac doesn't keep up very well at all. You can cool it by 15 degrees but that's about it. If you plan on using tipouts then be sure to pick up some insulating covers like the popup gizmos or make something similar yourself.

    • @TheAndersenAdventures
      @TheAndersenAdventures 2 місяці тому

      @hellapellanyc6465 I wouldn't unless you reinforce the frame where the hitch is installed. Depending on the year you buy, the hitch is only rated for 175lbs or 200lb capacity. We used a cargo rack on the back before but not exceeding 100lb total.

    • @TheAndersenAdventures

      @@hellapellanyc6465 No, the weight rating from Intech on this is not based on “tongue weight” like a regular receiver hitch on a vehicle. This is very much a “do not exceed 200lbs at all” receiver. It is intended for a small bicycle rack or cargo rack and not really intended for towing.

      @championhairpuller Maybe you missed it, but we LIVE in this trailer full time including winters and summers. Between temperature/moisture control and also sometimes camping in bear country, we opted to not utilize the tents. I'm glad you've had no issues with yours! We would love to use ours but it just is too difficult to keep the inside of the trailer warm/cool and dry and peace of mind that nothing (or no one) can get in (easily) while we are gone is more important than the extra room. We plan on building some hard sides one of these days soon so we can use the trailer to the fullest extent again. :)

    • @TheAndersenAdventures
      @TheAndersenAdventures 7 місяців тому

      We intended to use the tip outs at first - but we found in full time use it is incredibly hard to control the moisture and temperature. They’re great for the regular camper, don’t get me wrong! We have plans to build hard sided tip outs so we can utilize that extra space.

    • @mjl9702
      @mjl9702 7 місяців тому

      @TheAndersenAdventures I've been asking a few different people about these issues and got a few good ideas. One was to have a fan blowing around to put the dry air into the tent tip outs. Another idea I heard was having a custom tarp company to make insolated covers over the tent tip outs. Another idea was having a different heating system than the standard propane like an electric heat option but I think you guys did an even better option with your diesel heater!

    • @TheAndersenAdventures
      @TheAndersenAdventures 7 місяців тому

      @@mjl9702 The diesel heater is great but still doesn't do the best job, we actually ended up installing a Cubic Mini Grizzly woodstove which has helped dry things out better than anything else we've tried. We made tipout insulation covers from reflectix when we used the tipouts but it still didn't solve all of the issues. We've lived in our Discover full time for 2 1/2 years now and have had very few quality issues. The issues we have had are purely from our lifestyle and abuse that the trailer wasn't intended for.

    • @TheAndersenAdventures
      @TheAndersenAdventures 7 місяців тому

      We're still happy with the Discover. The Forge is neat BUT it's not much of an "upgrade" considering it wouldn't provide much more space and we'd have to spend a lot of time setting it up to be as good as what we have now for full time living, plus the disadvantage of more weght and less ability to tow through severe terrain. We did just purchase a cargo trailer for all four of our dirt bikes, tools and gear. It's nice having a "garage" so we don't have to track mud inside the Discover. There's still so much we can improve on with our current setup like hard sided tipouts and an additional hard sided ramp door room, all of which will double the interior space of our current trailer while retaining the same physical size while in transit.

    There is another more important question. I have the latest Ford bronco 4x4 four-door off-road vehicle. The towing capacity is 3500 pounds and the tongue is 350 pounds. Judging from the parameters found, it can be towed under dry weight, but The tongue parameter of the Trailer is 520 pounds. I was worried about this, so I found some articles on the Internet, saying that if the tongue is overloaded, it will not damage the front car, but may cause some instability. The internal structure is not suitable for installing Weight Distribution Hitch (it is said that it can keep the front car and the rear car relatively level to improve stability), so I would like to hear more about your professional opinions on this, thank you!

      Hello! If your towing capacity on your Bronco is 3500 lbs I would not recommend towing the Discover with it. You'll quickly surpass that. Ideally you don't want to exceed 75% of the tow capacity of your vehicle. The tongue weight alone on the Discover is way more than your vehicle is safely rated for. I'd upgrade tow vehicles. Happy camping! :)

    1. I bought a 2023 brand new Discovery from a private person. He got it from an auction. The price is 22.5K. Do you think it is a good deal? 2. The 2024 model adds a gas furnace, which seems to be able to provide energy for the refrigerator and air conditioner, thus saving electricity as much as possible. My solution was to buy a dual fuel generator to keep it going, what are your suggestions for adding batteries? I see you also have a generator but don't use it very often do you? 3. My usage scenario is mainly to take my 5-year-old son with an ATV and motorcycle for a weekend. I will not live on it for a long time. Unfortunately, I learned that its floor is not waterproof. I originally wanted to Use water to rinse away mud and dust from toys. 4. Is it recommended to find a fixed ladder on the market and install it on the side to make it easier to go up to the roof to view the scenery or clean the solar energy? Since I don't know English, I wrote these messages using Google Translate, I hope it doesn't bother you.

      Thank you for taking the time to translate and comment! Hopefully, my answers make sense. :) $22.5k USD seems like a good deal for brand new. We have a dual fuel generator and jt is great for running AC and charging batteries. We currently have 300 amp hours of lithium batteries. Floors are not waterproof entirely, which is a downside but they are still easy to clean and can tolerate some moisture as long as it gets dried quickly. We do not have a fixed ladder, we have a telescoping ladder that we can move around the trailer for access to all portions. The roof is not built entirely to walk on so you must be careful when on it.
