Hi, hello and what a fun video! Well as fun as cleaning off the roof can be lol, good thing Prometheus is there to do the dangerous work! I have no idea about farming outside of what I see on TV so it was cool seeing the boxes setup and all that. Very interesting! Take care and see ya on the next one

Hi, hello and thank you. Prometheus repaired a hole. The kennel garage was leaking water and when he went to the roof to see how big it was, WOW! It was big. Then we had to get the supplies from the diy store. We haven't had rain since his handywork to see if he needs to add more sealant, but it has to be better than it was. Thankfully it isn't the house roof! Your comment of tv farming made me think of Green Acres. 😂 My brother is supposed to come visit us next month, and the guest room he stays in is a HOT MESS. So I need to get that squared away; light installed, repainted, etc. Thank you for your support. We appreciate it.

I think the last time I read Ivanhoe was as a kid via the Illustrated Classics. I haven't thought of that book in years, but some of those scenes are pretty memorable! I haven't read Kidnapped yet. Two other books to add on to my desired collection of Oxford World Classics now...

Hi Tahlia! I was just about to watch your new video on medicine and religion. The Great Illustrated Classic are wonderful. That's what Prometheus used to read and it helped create his love of reading and learning. I don't think I've read Ivanhoe. Do you keep all of the books you read?

@@BookZealots I think that the Illustrated Classics were instrumental in my developing a love for reading as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if quite a few booktubers grew to love books because of that series of books. I tend to keep all of my books. Whenever I make the mistake of getting rid of some (as I foolishly did my large paperback collection of Agatha Christie books built over decades because of kindle books), I always regret it. And I tend to write and highlight in my nonfiction books. While there might be some books I probably wouldn’t mind parting with, as a general rule, if I pick up a book, it is with me for the long run. I remember Ivanhoe as being exciting… and set in Robin Hood’s world. It’s been very many years since I’ve read it, though. I snagged an Oxford World’s Classic edition for less than $6, so I’m looking forward to revisiting it as an adult. Hope you enjoy my review of Medicine & Religion. It can be a touchy topic, so I found it to a challenging book to review due to the number of sensitive topics covered.

Sorry for my long absence; I've had a very unfocused month. I am soooo behind on booktube. Can't believe that it has taken me this long to finish watching your bookhaul. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the "Hate Crime Hoax". Because I think that everyone can agree that no one benefits from hoaxers (cough, Jussie Smollet, cough) muddying the waters. Trig... oh my! Impressed! If you can find a way to relate it to how you can utilize it in real life, maybe it will stick better. At least that's how my mind works... 5:13 oh, I read "Professor and the Madman" a year or two ago (looks like two years ago, since I can't find it in my book journal...). It was simultaneously interesting, educational, and a bit sad. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

I usually don't do individual book reviews, but lately I feel that some books deserve a better focus. I'll revisit Hate Crime Hoax and make a video. You are so right. With the hoaxes it really detracts from actual crimes and crying wolf never helps anyone. I ordered another one of the author's books and I'll have one more end of the year book haul. I hope you're doing okay. I've been distracted with all of the hate since Butler PA and how people think that behavior is okay and they're sad it didn't go the way it was intended. What a sick world we live in. The lack of humanity and morality is disturbing. And yes, like Smollett. I had never heard of him before that trick of his. And did he serve time?

James could have been great ......but the author ..... I was so disappointed. Crime and Punishment's psychology is done really well. I'm considering doing a more indepth review. I'm not sure. I wrote the cast in the back and their relations so I didn't get confused. It's a mystery, sort of, so if you like mysteries, and morals play a part in the end.... Thank you for posting this. Because last week I found the novel, James. And after watching this video I have decided that I am not going to read it. Thankfully I only paid 50 cents for my copy. I'm not even sure why I bought it because I do not care for anything written by Mark Twain. I never got past one or two chapters in both Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. For some reason, which I can not explain, I just do not enjoy the way Mark Twain writes. And I agree with you about the Little things that you know to not be true or correct in a novel. I am currently reading The Revenant. A movie was made from the story. That early 1800's American West movie, where a Huge Bear attacks a Trapper and he is left to die but doesn't die. I haven't seen the movie. But in the novel some things that the author writes about doesn't match up to what I've read in other Non Fiction books. Books such as "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee". So knowing what I've read in non fiction books, the fact that in the novel it is almost the complete opposite really bothers me and takes me out of the story. I will explain when I review the novel. And, and! When you Soft DNF a book, do you pick up where you left off? Or, do you do like me and start all over from the beginning? I have to start all over again to bring me up to speed. It's just something I do and it annoys me. Yes, I annoy myself! Sorry for such a short comment. I was in a hurry! Thank you -James.

ahahahahaha, I LOVE the way you ended your comment James. I had to read your comment to Prometheus. I felt sad at first that I ruined James for you. Mark Twain's writing is much better. I think you would appreciate his book Roughing It. I did see your bookhaul with James and didn't want to say anything negative about it. If you want specific details I'm willing to share them in the comments so you can make a more informed decision. I had to look up The Revenant, (the movie). I saw your video talking about the book. I look forward to your review on it and how the author got things wrong. Since you mentioned Bury My Heart... I gather the author of The Revenant got things wrong about survival or specifically tribes? I usually remember enough of a book I soft dnf'd that I do not start over. Just today I asked Prometheus if I should start all over with the Mayflower by Philbrick and he said no. We have the documentary and they followed the book really well. That was the whole reason I put the book down. I felt I had already read the book. If I didn't get very far into a fictional book and soft dnf'd it, I will start at the very beginning. Oh my goodness James, you had me laughing when you explained your frustration with yourself and I thoroughly enjoyed your short comment. Hopefully next time you'll have more time to comment in length. 🤗 Hugs to Bella. Her rest and sunshine (anywhere but on the grass) will do her good.

It was a fun read - the 2nd book in the Restorationists series by Carolyn Leiloglou. "Fantasy in our world" where a small number of people can enter into and travel through paintings. Good guys overcoming bad guys, light faith, good morals and lessons learned. In the back, there is a list of all the art mentioned throughout for easy reference. I like how it introduces kids to art in an exciting way. One of my top reads of the year happens to be a middle grade by Irene Hunt, Across Five Aprils. Have you read it? It is an absolutely stellar "nutshell" presentation of the complexities and nuances surrounding the American Civil War. I think you might appreciate it.

"From this arises the following question: whether it is better to be loved than feared, or the reverse. The answer is that one would like to be both the one and the other; but because it is difficult to combine them, it is far better to be feared than loved if you cannot be both. One can make this generalisation about men: they are ungrateful, fickle, liars, and deceivers, they shun danger and are greedy for profit; while you treat them well, they are yours. They would shed their blood for you, risk their property, their lives, their sons, so long, as I said above, as danger is remote; but when you are in danger they turn away. Any prince who has come to depend entirely on promises and has taken no other precautions ensures his own ruin; friendship bought with money and not with nobility of mind is paid for, but it does not last and it yields nothing. Men worry less about doing injury to one who makes himself loved than one who makes himself feared. For love is secured by a bond of gratitude which men, wretched creatures that they are, break when it is to their advantage to do so; but fear is strengthened by a dread of punishment which is always effective." I'd like to learn to sew my own clothes. The clothes today are so cheaply made.

@@BookZealots while I did have some knitting skills from home-ec in 5th, 8th, and 9th grades, it was really, really basic and I taught myself in my early 20's. I've been told I have poor form, but I get the job done and the sweaters, hats and mitts were gift worthy. Since I moved to NC, I've only made dish cloths. My daughter learned machine sewing and needlework for badges in American Heritage Girls. She since has made clothes for herself and her sister and a few gifts. She's super creative; she gets that from her father.

@@Fernie4243 First, I love that your dear daughter is so talented. Second, I am shocked you were taught knitting skills in a home ec class in three grade levels. Home ec was no longer offered in my school district in Cali. I barely got music lessons in fourth grade. by 2002, PE was being eliminated. Anyway, there's form to knitting?! I laugh to think what these women would have to say about Prometheus crocheting and holding the tension with his toes? 🤣 He made scarves for soldiers one year for homeschool. Of course we washed everything before we mailed them. But form? I'm more worried about tension and then reading patterns. Is your husband an artist? My step father's family is extremely talented. A little jealous that they're all so talented. Is there a DNA gene for that or something?

@@BookZealots my schools were slow to eliminate those things. Sports were big and our school always hosted regional track and field events. They kept the home-ec going because the kitchens were used to make all the food. We didn't have a cafeteria. I haven't talked to anyone there in years and don't know if it's still the same. The home-ec teacher that was there forever retired a couple years after I graduated. My husband is a composer/ musician. His degree is in composition but he can play many instruments. If you search UA-cam for Joel Everett you can find him. He's not the martial arts guy. There is a few bits he composed, most is arrangements. The song Together he wrote for me. It's my favorite.

@@Fernie4243 I like that the school kept the home ec. I think it's really important. here in our tiny town there's a lot of sports for middle school. my middle school didn't have anything like that. one would assume in Cali there would be lots of extra curricular option, but nope. I will definitely look up your husband's music. My uncle Ken is a musician and he writes music too. He's not a good singer though. IMO. LOL And he draws. I think all 6 of the "kids" had talent in art and most of them worked on it. My uncle hates it when people call his art/music as a talent, because he has worked on his crafts for decades. But I will argue, it started out as talent, because I can put effort into those crafts and definitely NOT get the same results. 🤣

Bravo! 👏👏👏 My loose plan for October is Dickens, Austen, Dickens, Austen, and start another Dickens. Plus I have a few shorter Victorian novels on my shelf and I downloaded all the Trollope books from the series you just mentioned, along with Wilkie Collins' Basil. Oh and one of Oscar Wilde's plays, whichever is first in the book I have because it has to be in order. And, because I have so much time to read (hahaha) I picked up Louis L'Amour's volume 1 short story collection. It's educational: survival skills and all that. 😁

@@BookZealots it is western short stories, but since he had experience roaming the far reaches of the country during the dust bowl years, his stories do contain good information in survival. Education of a Wondering Man is a memoir of his early years. He read a lot of books when he was traveling the world and gave himself a fantastic education. My husband and I both read it and made a huge wish list of books from his reading list. Fascinating man.
