Landslide Fingerstyle Guitar Tutorial - Part 1 of 2 (the accompaniment) by Ricky Molina
In this video, I walk you through the fingerstyle playing of Stevie Nicks' and Lindsey Buckingham's classic hit from the Fleetwood Mac album. The tutorial shows you 3 different fingerpicking patterns (from the studio and live versions) that you can use to play this beautiful melodic song.
I'm using a capo on the 3rd fret as Lindsey does to accompany Stevie Nicks (who sings the song in the key of D#). I refer to all chords as if they were in standard tuning, so we're in the key of C.
This is Part 1 (the accompaniment part). Part 2 follows this video (click on the end card at the end of the video). Part 2 covers the acoustic guitar solo that Lindsey plays on live versions.
You can access a Guitar Pro pdf with chords and tabs at drive.google.com/file/d/15s_fGVYu-pPkIbOjcS7fe1U1NYMdb_tD/view?usp=sharing
Hope you enjoy the tutorial!

Fille du Feu by Julien Clerc performed and produced by Ricky Molina

This is my own little rendition of French pop artist Julien Clerc's classic pop hit from the 1980's. Please excuse any mispronunciations or misspellings in the video - my French is a bit rusty and computer keyboard doesn't come equipped with French accents or circumflexes! Filles du Feu is a beautiful melody. The artist sings of his fondness for a beautiful gypsy woman who sings and dances on t...

Here's my rendition of the 1971 Carpenters hit "Rainy Days and Mondays." This song was composed by Roger Nichols and Paul Williams. You've got to love Karen Carpenter's lead vocals. This is my own little tribute to her. I tried to stay true to the song's original import while managing to insert a bit of my own little jazzy interpretation in the second part. I have some strain in my hands after working in a factory years ago so I pretty much go as light as I can, I prefer round wounds and the only I would add to your thoughts I have a guild with a bigsby vibrato and that usually works better with an unwound 3rd string, I have a couple of jazz guitars with the same pickups Gibson P94s and one has flats and the other has round wounds, my acoustic arch tops get lighter silk and steel more Django style strings

Thanks for your comments. I too much prefer roundwound strings as a fingerpicking guy. I actually never use flats unless I absolutely need that hallmark jazz sound on a home recording.

Very good connection between chords and soloing here. I start to learn Jazzguitar from Fred Sokolow's ¨The Complete Jazz Guitar'' and leared the songs. Every song was analyzed with use of scales and chord progression's. Also learned from a book from Joe Pass ( blue book with record sheet). Can't find it right now. Some Videos from Hot Licks with joe Pass. Also Jazz Guitar Van Manakas (cassette and Book) All this is a good mix. There is alot on the Tube, but everyone is not good teacher's.

Hi, I use D'Addario Pro Arte normal tension silverplated wound strings. I avoid high-tension strings. Also, avoid the cheaper D'Addario Classic Nylon strings, they're not as resonant. I know that there are more expensive strings out there, but I'm not a concert classical player, so not necessary. The Pro Artes have a great sound and I do all my studio recordings with them.🎼

Nice try, but many inaccuracies. Joe Pass did have a L-5 sitting in the corner of his den, but he obviously built his career around an es-175. There is no such thing as Sandowsky. It's Roger Sadowsky, builder for many respected players. It's great that you're a fan, but you have to be more careful with your comments.

Thanks for clarifying. I guess I was driving more at the playability and sound of flats vs rounds issue than anything else in that video. No wonder that the best fingerstyle players used rounds while the soloists use flats. That was the key point I was trying to make.

  • @stratoleft

For that matter, you could begin with EVERYTHING on the 3rd fret. That is to say, low E, A, and D. Which ends you up with G-C-F- G open - B open. Then, to C maj. as usual. If I was in the key of E, that 3rd fret "G/C" thing you do, would go up to the 7th fret. A B/E chord, if you will.

11:37 - I read somewhere that Pat Metheny uses 0.10 D'Addario roundwounds for his Roland G303 Synth Guitar. I'm blown away but not surprised that Pat Martino used 0.15, so heavy....Sco started w/ 0.10s up until the 1970s and worked his way up to 0.13s by the early 2000s, but by circa 2008 had gone down to 0.11s as you mention here.

I know, can't get into those heavy strings either. Forget fingerpicking on 'em, or bending strings. Even hammer-ons and pull-offs are tricky on that cable wire. While the sustained sound can be amazing, there are practical disadvantages in terms of playing heavy strings. Meanwhile BB King and Billy Gibbons are at the other extreme!
