Helios 500? 😢 kkkkk
Lithium disilicate is a happy medium between porcelain and zirconia. Offering a stronger alternative to porcelain and better esthetics than zirconia. The translucency of crowns is the key to providing the most natural and esthetic crown/veneers. Additionally, less tooth structure is needed to taken away as compared zirconia. I did a Hinman CAD\CAM course with a University of Michigan faculty member that presented the resin based crowns/onlays/inlays and did a 5 year study. So far they are holding up well with 90% + survival rates. It will be in testing in the future how much further this can progress.
Lithium disilicate truly strikes a great balance between strength and esthetics, making it a go-to material for many clinicians, including myself. Your mention of resin-based crowns/onlays/inlays is intriguing. A 90%+ survival rate over five years is quite promising, suggesting these materials may carve out their niche in restorative dentistry. It will be fascinating to see how these options evolve and compare to lithium disilicate and zirconia over time. The advancements in CAD/CAM and material science are certainly paving the way for even more durable and esthetic solutions. Any stand out printable resins so far?
I don’t think you’ll ever print something as strong as zirconia but I also think zirconia is stronger than what’s necessary in most intraoral scenarios. Also I know you *can* 3D print zirconia but that’s not in a chairside application
@@nickentros agreed. Once the resins are “good enough” their will be a paradigm shift. And we are close i feel.
How does it compare to the trios 4 or 5?
Hey there, sorry I got mixed up with our Elite review :) I would say this fits between TRIOS 5 and TRIOS 4. If you have the money TRIOS 5 is one of the best scanners but if it does not fit the budget and you want wireless this is a good option.
How much is Pearl AI per month?
299 USD / month All info here: instituteofdigitaldentistry.com/ai/second-opinion-by-pearl-ai-assisted-dental-radiography-review/
just get it. its an amazing additional to a practice
@@gurkim7063agreed. Fantastic software.
I saw a lab tech wrecking the Shining scanners saying they were terrible; however, the big guns aren't always so hot either. I have had a Trios lemon AND a Carestream lemon. Both of my Medits are great. I expect prices to continue to come down and Shining appears poised to be yet another giant killer. The ability to capture photogrammetry as well is an excellent add on. I have an iCam4 and it's not so hot either. It's varaible in its ability to grab scans quickly. Sometimes we're lucky and other times we're pulling our hair out. Only once have I NOT had to call technical support which sucks really. If the Aoralscan can grab implant positions without much fanfare I'm interested!
Everyone has preferences and experiences that shape their opinions. I've heard mixed reviews about all the major brands, too, and no scanner is without its flaws. Shining3D scanners have been steadily improving, and they're definitely positioning themselves as serious contenders. It’s exciting to see how the competition is driving innovation and bringing prices down. The next year or two are going to be game-changing for the scanner market.
@ I couldn’t agree more. I’ve had the original itero which was junk. I had a b/w trios which failed 55% of its tests when they logged in. They gave me a color one which was okay but a staff member dropped it and cracked the lens. I waited over three weeks to get an RMA to send it to Poland. Neither 3shape nor Schein helped. I “traded it in” for a complete piece of s^*t Catestream 3600 which I can’t say enough bad things about. I was blown away that it took a mere TEN MINUTES to set up and use my Medit i500. Once I got an i700 I had to change NOTHING. They both simply worked. The Aoralscan looks to be similarly positioned which is great since the heavy hitters are expensive and not always superior. If i honestly thought they were I’d own one since we use scanners ALL DAY LONG. I look forward to Shining and others to enter the market and disrupt the market.
@@normandknowlesdmd It sounds like you've been through quite the journey with intraoral scanners, and I totally understand your frustration with some of those experiences. The Medit i700 is often praised for its ease of use and reliability, so it's great to hear it worked so seamlessly for you, especially after dealing with so many setbacks. You're right about the Aoralscan - it’s definitely gaining traction as a cost-effective option with solid performance. The competition from companies like Shining3D is exciting, as it keeps the market dynamic and pushes innovation. Here's hoping we continue to see better, more affordable solutions that deliver on their promises, especially for those of us who rely on scanners daily!
Keep your teeth. Especially your wisdom teeth their called that for a reason
Wisdom right there
Hey doc, if cost is not the issue, which one will you choose besides Rayface and Metismile? Which workflow is more efficient and less likely to make errors? Does the Metismile have the library for digitial smile design? Thanks
Do you want something mobile? Get Metismile. Do you want something that's one click operation but will stay in one spot in the clinic? Rayface.
@@InstituteofDigitalDentistry thank you, but if cost is part of the decision making, you will go with Metismile? Both workflow comparable?
@@leoyangdds If cost is part of the decision, Metismile is 1/3 or 1/4 of the cost. So that makes a big difference. Both workflows are comparable yes. Personally I use RayFace more in my clinic as I just like one touch operation. But I have associates that love Metismile.
Many of us don't do Many all on 4 or all on x . But we do a lot of 3 or 4 unit implant bridges. Does the PG work for implant bridges?
Yes it does. It can be used for bridges.
Does it work for 3 or 4 unit implant bridge.
Yes. But for 3 or 4 unit bridges especially posterior with good scan strategy I just use scan bodies with no issue.
Have you tried it on multiple crowns scan? Is it good enough for 10+ veneer scan? Thank you for your answer Sir
Yes I have tried it for multiple crowns. No concerns. 10+ veneers also no problem. It comes down to the operator and scan strategy.
@ thank you sir Between Aoralscan3 and Runyes V3 which one will you prefer more for FMR case ? 🙏
@@iceaqar Either or. If its dentate. If its full arch implants, aoralscan 3
Helios 500 or shining 3d aoralscan 3
One is much cheaper than the other. And the other has much more sophisticated software and apps.
Looking at a Panda Smart and a Trios Core scanner. In my place price for a Trios Core is almost double of a Panda Smart. Would like your opinion on the price to performance ratio for a simple scanner that can last for a while.
Panda is a great price but TRIOS software is exceptional. It is up to you. Try both. If you feel the extra money warrants the TRIOS CORE get that, if not, Panda. We have a full TRIOS CORE review coming out in 1-2 days.
Are you satisfied with the printer?
Very much so. Great option.
Hi, have you checked BLZ intraoral scanner INO200? Do you recommend buying it?
Tried a few times at conferences. It is OK. The issue is the low-cost market is very competitive. Depends on what price they are quoting? How much is the cost in USD?
@InstituteofDigitalDentistry I'm getting it at a price of around 3,500 USD from a local dealer.
@@abdullahshoaibdar For that price it is fine. Test it on patients. All scanners work. I find for simple crown and bridge all scanners work. But for full arch implants, edentulous scanning, etc cheaper scanners generally do worse. Also the software is nothing close to the mid-tier or premium segment of the market.
@InstituteofDigitalDentistry Oh, okay, thank you!
Trios core or Medit i900 for a 1st device only for scanning?
I have reviews for both coming out this week. The Medit i900 review just posted, and the TRIOS Core review will be on Friday. instituteofdigitaldentistry.com/intraoral-scanner-reviews/medit-i900-intraoral-scanner-review-is-this-medits-best-scanner-yet/ Different scanners, different price points. Core is bigger, larger, still great scanning, but old. Medit i900 much newer tech.
I suggest cleaning the tip, you can see that the mirror has some marks and we know that this causes interference.
You are not wrong, but I found no difference in our scanning with brand-new tips either. These water spots are a nuisance with all scanner tips.
How is the support? Medit has awesome support.
Excellent as well. While Medit sets the bar, Shining3D does quite well.
Medit is indeed excellent which is why I have two of them.
@@normandknowlesdmd Great company. Great scanner.
Is there a yearly/monthly fee?
No. All info here: instituteofdigitaldentistry.com/intraoral-scanner-reviews/shining-3d-aoralscan-elite-review-does-intraoral-photogrammetry-really-work/
Hi, have you had a chance to review the scanner from coxo, dl300p?
Not yet, but I expect to later this Q1. Just FYI it is a white-label LAUNCA scanner: www.launcadental.com/launca-dl-300-wireless-intraoral-scanner-product/
Hi, Can I get some help? I have keysplint soft and procure 1(gen1 sprintray). I followed your video clip but the result is not good. I did candy coat after polish, and cure half and the other half time with glicerin. curing result come out yellosh and still sticky. cure1 program for keysplint soft is 30min, 50' Could you please help me what the problem is? :)
Here is some advice - normally cure it first and then quick polish, then candy coat with like 1 min pre cure after painting it on, then glycerin cure for another 1 min, or 2 . Depending on how thick the candy coat layer is. It cannot be too thick , it will trap bubbles. Use the same curing parameter, yellow could be the too long or too much power from the UV light.
Hi , I never get that clear nightguard, really look amazing . I’ll try that …,any tips for Einstein 3d printer and curing ?
best advice is make sure you minimise touching the surface before curing and candycoat etc
Helios 500? 😢
Will be published Jan 2025 :)

Also encode custom abutment cost the lab $130-$150. The the ti base fad has come and gone.
You are not wrong, I think we will see the rise of custom abutments for sure.
There is a new customized multi unit abutment that can be changed as needed at the time of surgery. It is very slick.
They have a number of really innovative solutions.
Thanks for the post. But why not focus on the Android platform? Many doctors use it, too.
What about longevity of this restauration?
We were promised Dexis 3800 Review by the 1st quarter 2024; I guess you meant 2025 😓
I published it 2 months ago :) instituteofdigitaldentistry.com/intraoral-scanner-reviews/dexis-is-3800-wireless-intraoral-scanner-review-2024-update-dtx-studio-clinic/
What is the difference of the quality of the scans between a Panda 2 (which I have for two years now) and a Panda Smart? My most important objects are the abutments of single piece implants (like those from Monoimplant and Ihde-Dental). If these abutments are shortend or if they are partly cut, to compensate for the insertion direction, it is often difficult to scan them with sufficient accuracy. A more precise scanner like the Panda Smart may be helpfull, but I did not find any example data or review about this.
In my opinion the Panda Smart is far superior to Panda 2.
Love the interview!! I am from india and would love to get the printer in future. What would be the cost of midas?
Thank you! The cost of Midas is $9,995 USD
Why use a narrator with a cold?
Thanks for your comment! Just to clarify, there’s no cold here-maybe that’s just how the narrator sounds. Let’s keep it constructive!
Why can I not buy the intraoral photogrammetry system for my current Trios scanner and not buy the shining scanner? When one company sells the kit and software to work with any scanner that is the one everyone will buy. All we need is DESS to setup or shining to go open system
Because it is all done within their software. You cannot plug and play any scanner into it.
Nice, but I agree on both scans 2nd molars were not completed, and I would like to see a detailed examination of digital models. I think the time is a little
Do you suggest this panda smart scanner or the helios 500? Which one is better? Thank you.
Both are about the same level. Helios 500 has a slightly better UI and software. Panda is pen size and small.
When will the review come out?
Within 2 weeks
Keep an eye out here - instituteofdigitaldentistry.com/category/intraoral-scanner-reviews/
i bought these one i need help
What help do you need? It is best to contact your local distributor who sold it to you
What do you think will be the next steps from dentsplySirona and medit with their cloud platforms? And what would you whish for?
Dentsply has moved scanning to the cloud natively. Which is a big move. Next, I expect CAD on the cloud, etc. Medit not sure what their move is going to be. Their recent scanner, the i900, was much the same in terms of cloud, but the company was way ahead of its time with their cloud syncing, etc. I would not be surprised if more companies make devices that can scan directly only the cloud in the future.
Would you pick a trios core or medit i600?
TRIOS Core = great scanner still even though its close to a decade old. Showing its age a bit. It is larger, heavier, and slower to heat up than the medit. But is better at scanning edentulous and blood. Medit = more modern, newer, smaller, single cord. Great option for a low cost esp if all you want is for crown and bridge Etc. So both are good in their own way. Try both :)
Excellent insights I believe due to huge competition; we more technical innovations by R&D investments.
Thank you. Agreed, it will just keep getting better and better. And those companies without big R&D budgets will likely be left behind
Why allienedstar as200 does not have calibration device
Many scanners are calibration-free these days like TRIOS 5. This is another one hence not needing a calibration tool.
Hello dr do you have any video talking about scanner calibration ? Which from what i have heard is most common issue in oral scanners I asked the company about the AS200 and they told me that no need to do calibration bcz it has has like an auto calibration feature . What do you think
AS260 and all Alliedstar scanners are calibration-free. This is similar to many scanners on the market now. So they don't require calibration and should be fine unless badly damaged.
Dear Doc. Do you know how support for this kind of scanner is in scandinavia? Does the producer offer any kind of troubleshooting?. The market here in Denmark seems very limited and the prices are skyhigh for scanners like 3shape or others via the dentaldealers - you can buy this machine for about 1/4 of the price of and basic 3shape model. I know its a lowcost model but it seems to offer what I am looking for without a major integration with our journalizingsystem. Thank you for a good review!
The best way is to find a local distributor. Or contact the company directly and ask who their distributor is in your region. This would be the ideal support channel. In saying that, most companies these days work very well with a virtual team, and simply providing support online / using remote connectivity software to help you get started.
does wireless scanners has connection issues?
Short answer no. The connection is very stable just like all other wireless IOS in 2024. These modern scanners are great and totally different to the ones from 5 years ago
Thanks for this interview. Very informative as usual. Your intraoral scanner videos helped me make the choice to finally buy a Shining 3D Elite for my practice (I might wait for the wireless version tho to see the price and features it has). I've been dying to see some Extraoral Scanner videos since this is probably my next big purchase. I've been waiting for IA features to come out but it's taking forever and very little information is available online (I guess it's a lot harder to test extraoral than it is to test intraoral scanners). I hope you will do a lot more videos on Extraoral scanners in general. And I think many would also be interested in dental milling and 3D printing. Please share any interesting resources you have on the subjects. Thanks a million for your great work.
Thanks for the kind words! By extraoral scanners do you mean lab scanners? Lab scanners are an interesting product set as many labs these days just use IOS to digitise impressions. We personally use E4 by 3Shape which has been excellent. Many other good options exist like the Medit one too.
@@InstituteofDigitalDentistry Hi, and thanks for your answer. I misspoke, I was referring to Panoramic X-Ray machines, Cephalo and CBCT... Those go from 15k€ up to 80k€ in my country and it's difficult to get objective non advertisement information on the subject.
@@filsdugrand Totally agree. I personally use a DEXIS CBCT. We have had the same one for close to 15 years decades and I have been really happy with it. I have also heard great things about Planmeca and VATECH options. It is hard to get an objective opinion because not many few people have multiple CBCTs so it is hard to compare if you have only used one. Jordan in this episode does give some tips and pointers. I would say the first thing to figure out is how big you want the FOV and then work from there
Take away the innovative scanning in the cloud… is it any better than the Primescan 1? Do you see this as an upgrade or just a completley different scanner?
Read this - instituteofdigitaldentistry.com/intraoral-scanner-reviews/primescan-2-intraoral-scanner-review/ It covers everything. Great work once again, Doc! How does the scanner do in a bloody field? How does this workflow relay the post op soft tissue scan to the lab for CAD of the temp? Thanks!
It works very well. Close to TRIOS, which is the GOAT of scanning bloody surgery sites.
What about scanning?
Its great at scanning. Very good, basically, but TRIOS 5 is still the best for edenutlous. Elite is very very close and works well as an all-round scanner.
This technology comes from the Sun Yuchun team of Peking University in China.
That team should be very proud of what they achieved. Incredible innovation!
