How to Make a Proper Snatch Hook for Gator Hunting
*Equipment used for the snatch hooks:*
*Hooks* - Mustad 5/0 Standard Treble (5 pack)
*Wire* - AFW Surflon Micro Supreme 7x7 Coated Wire, 60#
*Crimps* - Size 4 leader sleves (I used Sea Striker)
*Beads* - I used leftovers from my pompano rigs, anything that will fit works
*Shrink Tubing* - 3/16" works perfect with the 5/0 trebles
I prefer to make my own snatch hooks and use the 5/0 treble hooks. I have found these hooks are excellent for hooking gators and I have always been able to get a very good hookset with them. The larger 12/0-15/0 hooks commonly sold for snagging are very difficult to hook gators with and too heavy to cast very far. I have caught 8 gators in the last three years, and six of them were caught on my homemade hooks. Last season I caught four gators on the same homemade snatch hook.

Well done Vlog
It is legal in Florida to use electronic callers!?
It’s Illegal to call in feral hogs in Florida with electronic game calls.as they are considered game animals.
Not true, this is stated in most WMA brochures: 6. Taking or attempting to take any game with the aid of live decoys, recorded game calls or sounds, set guns, artificial light, net, trap, snare, drug, or poison is prohibited. Recorded calls and sounds can be used to hunt furbearers, wild hog, and crows.
Thanks for the video
Are ferel hogs safe to eat ?
Es mejor un rifle pcp
Do you have a video of the hunt? How did he do?
Very nice! Thank you for posting this
Twitch baits are hot and cold and I can say I prob got more snook and reds on them than anything other than 3" plastics. Get out in the boat and throw it on a hot bite (when ur using something else). If they don't kill it on a frenzy then it goes into the dud box.
I was there yesterday (11/26/23) and there were manatees everywhere. Did'nt catch anything except snagged cocina . lol
I like the smaller hook penetrating better than a big hook concept, except smaller hooks don't have enough bite in bodies of water loaded with grass.
Thanks Stevo
😂😂
My grandma would always say raccoon was her favorite meat, still never tried it myself but after your video, I need too!
It was tasty! I am looking forward to getting after them this season!
I wouldn’t say you called in any pigs. It was coincidence they ran out of the woods….and ran the opposite direction.
Negative Nancy over here…..
@@alexnicely8059 Just saying as it is.

Good lookin' rig! Gotta try that.
Good hunt and delicious meal - well done friend! 👍
Thank you 👍
Now it's time for some Reptile Nuggets!!😎
Enjoyed this video
Thanks again!
Great video
Thanks!
Gotta can't that thing😂 I got two 100 lb hogs with one arrow once. They were feeding towards each other and I released when their shoulders were in line. They only went 20 yards. I was using my 52# Black Widow PMA IRONWOOD. 2 blade broadheads.
Those Black Widows are nice! I have a black canyon bow on the way, can't wait to start shooting it!
Great video but the volume of the music ruined your presentation. Had to quit.
I lost one today on a paddle tail 😢
Flock shooting congratulations
This bridge is down the service road 😂
these are nature documentary worthy on tv your are deeply underrated and one of these video will boom, im looking foreward for the fishing post if you do
Thank you! I have been super busy lately and have not had time to do any more filming. I am hoping to film a couple fishing videos throughout the summer.
underrated
Y el otro cerdo?
Though these weren't large hogs, a complete pass through with a long bow is impressive
Sharp broadheads!
Works great! Just be careful where you aim the arrow when you're swinging! 😅
It’s that easy ? Wow. I wouldn’t think so. Next time I’ll try this
Why couldn't you hunt something that isn't an adorable graceful bird in the wild... I literally rescue Gallinules and you are over here murdering them for sport and getting almost no meal from it even.
I think all the animals I hunt are beautiful. Pigs are adorable, many species of ducks have amazing colors , squirrels have unique personalities, and snipe are some of the prettiest birds out there. Animals being eaten is a way of life. There’s no way around it.
This is the comment I was looking for. 😂
Petualangan yang sangat menarik kawan, Indonesia hadir..
Nicely done 🤙🏼
Thanks!
New sub. You got some shooting in. That's great. I never tried Coon in the oven because of the gas bill, but crock pot for a few hrs is something to try. Hope you kept the pelts. Looking forward to more Trad shooting. That hog on the grill was perfecto👍🏻
Thanks! The were both tasty!
Your shooting about 65 lbs southpaw (left hand) longbow. Looks like Apollo arrows. I'm shooting 60 lb right hand recurve with Victory Carbon Trad arrows (second heaviest arrows made). I been practicing for many years now. The neighbors are probably sick of it. The REAL difference is - you know the right people on private land. I been hunting public land around Tampa area. I haven't had a chance to shoot squat. I'm not knocking you. It's nice to see that SOMEBODY is having success in Florida. For the rest of us, please keep it up, and enjoy, lefty.
Thanks! I’ve been shooting the Easton aluminum XX75 camo hunter arrows. They work pretty well, but most importantly they are heavy and cheap. Best of luck with the rest of your season, I hope you can get a chance at some porkers!!!!
Same with Jumper Creek. Plus, it floods crazily during bow season.
@@derrickray5464 the worst part of flooding is following the hog trail into sawgrass.
What WMAs? Great hunt!!!
Thanks! I don’t like to name the WMAs just because if I do an abnormal amount of people will focus on them. Personally I have found hogs on every single WMA I have hunted in FL.
@@alexnicely8059 completely understand
Alex, my concern about paddleboard fishing on a 11ft inflatable SUP in Mosquito Lagoon is the chance of being attacked by an alligator or bull shark. Is that ever a concern for yourself. Have you ever lost sight of your launch area or encountered unexpected winds? I don't want to get in over my head with and attack in nesting or unfamiliar territory within the lagoon. Thanks!
Hey Richard, I am not really too concerned about gators or sharks in the lagoon. Personally, I stick clear of Haulover Canal when on a paddle board because that area can get some Strong currents and also holds the largest gators of the lagoon. And with the amount of people fishing and throwing bait into haulover, gators there are not quite as scared of people as I would like in that area. Just check the wind forecast, if the wind is out of the east, launch from the east side and fish along the shoreline. If it is out of the west do the same on the west side. I typically just fish up or down the shoreline and then fish my way back. Just watch the winds and you should be good.
Yup that’s a stout longbow…your forms shows it Drop some pounds you wanker
Haha it was given to me so I use it. looking to purchase something in the 45-50lb range in the future, just using what I have for now.
Hey bud just found your stuff the other day and I really enjoy it, looking forward to future posts! I’m from the area, maybe We will cross paths one day. Keep it up man
Thanks! Hopefully you've had a good season so far!
Any suggestions for around Vero /Brevard.
Bull Creek WMA, Three Lakes WMA, and Upper Saint Johns WMA are all open for small game season and allow the harvest of hogs. I believe Saint Johns prohibits the use of centerfire rifles during small game season. All three of these have lots of hogs. This time of year water is down and there are no mast crops, so focus on the edges of swamps and wet areas. Cover ground until you start to find fresh sign. Good luck.
Small coon are good but the big old boars have a gland on the hip and shoulders that look like a small grey pea.If you don't remove those glands it cooks into the meat and its nasty.
Good advice! I made sure to cut the glands out but did not include that in the video.
Hog needed to get hit.
Sweet butcher block counter!
Madde for cleanin raccoons!
Hey brother I came across your UA-cam and I started following you quick question can you tell me the name of that cooking book for I could be a boy buy it. I'm always trying to learn new ways I to cook different species and dish
The Meateater, Fish and Game Cookbook
Soaking Rocky is the key and slow cooking in a crock or in the oven will have the meat falling off the bone!!😎🦝
Rocky was tasty!
Not gonna lie that looks good
A lot better than I expected!
Can you recommend archery hunting spot in JAN to MAR nearby pensacola?
Sorry but I have not hunted in that area. Try finding a WMA somewhere near there through the FWC website
All I can tell you is anywhere 100 miles (approximately from Tampa, the hogs are way overpressured). Go North, or south, or over near Orlando/east coast. Richloam is overpressured with hinting dogs. And anything within 50 miles is overpressured (green swamp, etc). It's a bad joke trying to do this type of hunting from Tampa Bay area.
Those oversized feral rats task good, but also tear up the woods, eat turkey eggs, and populate like rabbits. Sling shots at them. Get at least 5 rounds semi auto. Those things have to be controlled. Great video.
Thanks. This video was filmed during small game season on a wma that did not allow centerfire rifles, hence the use of a muzzleloader.
Nice video , from Maryland would love to hunt some. Where exactly in FL did you hunt em.
I hunt in central FL. Any body of water that has vegetation along the edges will have at least a few moorhens, but I typically look for lakes with a lot of lily pads and other floating mats of vegetation.
Everywhere, I ate some after soaking in Italian dressing for 24 hours. Tasted like mud
@@johnbland1585 I par boil with ginger and beef bullion and a bit of soy sauce and vinegar . Then I sauté with onions garlic black pepper and a bit of cooking wine. It come out awesome. You can add some summer sausage to jazz it up a bit
