I’ve been interested in mechanical things for as long as I can remember and have been employed in the aftermarket auto parts industry for all of my life. I feel the more you can do for yourself the better off you are and have learned much of what I know by making mistakes on the first round. A lot of VW / automotive work happens in the barn along with other random projects, repairs and trips that pop up. I’m hoping some of this stuff can help someone else out on their projects.

VW Chassis Floor Pan Flipper, Tilter, Stand, Rotisserie... Whatchamacallit?
In this video we decided that painting a chassis while its flat would be more trouble that its worth. So I built a wooden rotisserie of sorts so we can hold the pan on its side for easier full coating of both sides in 1 shot! Is it a rotisserie if doesn't rotate...? I guess not, "VW floor pan flipper" it is then. This flipper is made of 2x6 lumber, 2 hinges, left over shelf brackets and a set of casters! Total cost was probably closer to $60 but still very easy to build, affordable and did the job perfectly.

That car has been orange since the start of the Bug Club, that was the first time I saw it anyway.
Hi Bim! Yes definitely, I have a photo from the 80’s that I got from the owner prior to Gerry and it has most of the same scrapes and body damage. I’m trying to figure out when New Hampshire started issuing composite VIN stickers. This one has a low 3 digit number over the orange paint that looks 70’s in its styling.

I am restoring one and having door alignment issues. Is there shims that go under the frame and base to help alignment?
@@brianfitzpatrick6387 I don’t recall any shims under the frame legs, but I had to add washers between the door and hinge on one or more of the hinges to get them to open without getting stuck on the top, and even with that mine still sticks a bit.
@@partsguyjaythanks for the tip, I’ll be sure to check that when I get the top on. The issue I’m seeing is the side with the door catches. I’m like 3/8”-1/2” short to get them to latch without marring up my new paint. Great video as well! That’s a cool way to get it to function. I tossed the guts on mine when I got it 30 years ago, and now getting around to restoring it.
@brianfitzpatrick6387 I’m no gas pump expert but I have feeling these things didn’t fit great when new and the doors probably scratched up the sides and top the first day they were in use. Best of luck with your project, thanks for watching!

@@partsguyjay quick question. What kind of tires are you running? I’m switching back to stock 14” from some 15” BRMs and having trouble finding proper 14” truck tires.
@@MatthewFrancis7575 I have these on there www.walmart.com/ip/Tire-Haida-Strong-HD717-195R14-Load-D-8-Ply-Van-Commercial/5483954132?classType=REGULAR&selectedSellerId=17465&from=/search I bought them in the beginning of Covid so it was slim pickings. They are 8 ply and the specs put the diameter a little taller than most 195r14s so slightly lower rpm. A little noisy but so isn’t the truck. They also have an older style looking tread. (Might be other sellers that are cheaper on the same tire)
