This is awesome! I've been to the monastery a few times, and I was really blown away by the work the monks are doing. There are gardens all over the place! And now they have a music school - that's so great, and much needed! The last time I visited was during the Memorial Pilgrimage, and there was a concert at the new Icon School, but I ended up missing it.

Isn't saying the wine becomes His blood the false idea that the blood *already* shed on the cross wasn't enough? Jesus doesn't need to shed His blood over and over >> again. It only took the 1 Time.

I read recently in Tertullian's book on prayer: "The extrinsic observance of certain hours will not be unprofitable - those common hours, I mean, which mark the intervals of the day - the third, the sixth, the ninth." This made me realize how continuous the Christian tradition of praying the hours is. I would like to participate more in this beautiful and ancient tradition. Thank you for sharing this. It has been very helpful.

Is it truly the case that we need to have natural ferments for sacramental wine? If the yeast will not be in the chalice in the form of sediment, then what would the the difference between a natural ferment and one with brewers yeast in terms of substance? I don't know whether it would violate Canon law either, but the monks at St. Tikhon know better than I.

I would recommend this series of lectures for anyone wishing to read or sing in church, especially for those who are ordained or will be ordained....It helped me immensely. When I first started to read I had no or little help. I had to learn the hard way. People were quick to criticize, but did not offer any help and did not want to assist me as it would have meant coming early or coming to a practise.
