Making an early 1910s outfit to wear to the Titanic Exhibition using historical 1910s patterns
Переглядів 3387 місяців тому
I made a walking skirt, blouse, and waistcoat using patterns from the early 1910s. I also made a hat using a pattern from a modern maker. This might be my favorite project yet! It turned out so lovely and makes me look sophisticated and elegant. It was so much fun to wear it to the Titanic Exhibition and I will forever treasure the photos of this outfit in that environment! I have loved everything Lacemade since the moment the brand first came across my Instagram feed! But I have the unfortunate circumstance of being so short that no off the rack corset style dress is going to fit me. So what's a girl to do? Make my own, of course! And bonus points for making it using materials and supplies I already own! Other videos mentioned: Baby bonnets: ua-cam.com/video/v1W-...

    Super cute! Thanks for that note about the hem. I'm trying to pattern a 1918 skirt for modern day wear and I want that "barrel" look in the skirt as you made yours. Now I want one of these to wear around the house.

    • @EmilyJeanCreates
      @EmilyJeanCreates 19 днів тому

      I will say after wearing this, the skirt is a bit tight. For ease of wear, even though it’s a more modern feature, I would add a slit in the back so you can take bigger steps while walking

    Your tutorials are amazing. You speak as you work, but do not use unnecessary words. Your descriptions are really on point. After having some time to wear it, if I were to do it again I would make the straps thinner. I think less bulk underneath outer layers would be more comfy and would also look nicer. Happy sewing and let me know how yours turns out!

    did you line it? I'm making this and the lining instructions are wild. I've been watching videos and looking at reviews like crazy and it seems like everyone did their own version of lining instead

    • @EmilyJeanCreates
      @EmilyJeanCreates 5 місяців тому

      I did follow the instructions given in the pattern for the lining. The whole section in the beginning of the video where I talk about the “underbodice” is the lining part. But only the bodice is lined. The skirt and sleeves are not. I wear a shift, stays, and petticoat underneath for silhouette and modesty.

    What a pretty dress, and, so well sewn. You look so beautiful in it! The reveal is so lovely! 🧡🌟👑💚 To my memory, it looks like a narrow skirted 1980's dress. So, my guess is the 80's designers were repurposing silhouettes, as all artists must eventually do, when there is nothing new to create.
