Bonfires, beers, boats, check. Bikes and bitches? 😁
Sure sounds like an awesome time!!
Always is.
Is shoreline camping in a tent allowed at both of these locations, or must you stay aboard overnight to be legal?
Yes it is. It would be tough to get a tent on the patch of shell beach we anchored at inside Moses lake but plenty of room at the palapa on rattlesnake island.
@ ok, thanks for the info. What land owner or manager oversees these areas? Is it city land? Love the videos, looking forward to the next one.
the beaches are state owned I believe, maybe federal. But in texas you can camp on most of the beaches for free, ussually a 14 day limit.
What type of boat is that
A Melonseed built by buddy.
Very cool Ziggy! I once had the opportunity to tour the USS North Carolina. Nothing like looking down through a grating floor at one of multiple +/- 16" diameter prop drive shafts! Glad you guys had a blast.
There's an aircraft carrier in Corpus Cristi i toured that a friend was stationed on yrs ago. Cool day.
@@ZiggyLavengood Now THAT would be amazing!
Cool vid. I’ve made the trip multiple times, always a lot of fun. Did you need to contact the Pelican Island bridge or did they just open it up for you? I’ve been that way in a small powerboat, but but not my sailboat.
@@smallsailboatbigwater3959 we had to hail them on the radio.
F’ing impressive! I think I’d rig a mini Bimini to keep the water out of my face.
I was definitely a wet ride...
I'm thing of getting rid of my 34 ft and getting a trailerable. If the weather doesn't cooperate just bring the truck down and pick it up. Gotta love it.
I lived on my 34 fter for 20 trs. downsized when I moved to Texas from Michigan 7 yrs ago and haven't missed the big boat. Being able to beach and camp has opened a whole new world.
Great video. I’ve sailed Galveston Bay in keel boats forever. But, having a beachable boat is where it’s at! It really opens up a whole new world. What is the minimum draft of your boats? Thanks.
Both of these boats can sail in a foot or water . My trimaran takes a ft and a half
Man, I miss that area. I love Virginia and the Chesapeake bay, but my sailing season is over till spring.
Ours is hopping. The Texas sun and heat makes mid summer difficult
I'll have to check that spot out! Never landed on rattlesnake island, thanks for sharing.
It's a great place to spend the night!
As a frequent Long Beach sailor, we know all too well that playing chicken with freighters is usually a bad idea. Those things are moving a lot faster than they look like they are!
Before moving to Texas 7 yrs ago I was a great lakes sailor. Also dealt with the big boats. It's amazing how fast a freighter can crest the horizon and be on your tail . I think buddy learned a bit of respect, hehe.
@@ZiggyLavengood Yeah, we'll typically see 5-6 of 'em on the crossing when we sail to Catalina. They're usually coming into Long Beach port from the NW while we're sailing SW, so crossing paths. Like you say, what starts as a dot on the horizon quickly becomes a giant ship right in your path. I always know that if I just aim for their stern, they'll be long gone by the time I get there.
Great video.. makes us feel like we were there! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
LOOKS LIKE FUN BE SAFE AND HAVE FUN!!!
👍👍
I love Fort Anahuac! A lot of people don't know that that is where the first sparks of the Texas Revolution were struck.
It's a really nice park! great camping place too.
That "Palapa" on Rattlesnake Island is COOL! We SHALL Return!
"We Didn't Die!"
Sparky Mark was just trying real hard to adjust lol
Mark has been sailing for only a cpl of yrs I think but he has picked it up real fast. I know he has a fast boat among the monohulls. You see he reefed his main so he wouldn't out run us.
@ZiggyLavengood I was just referring to the song that buddy was singing at the gasoline campfire lol I almost died when Buddy started singing. I figure he's got to be pretty good to hang with you guys.
@@ZiggyLavengood Those O'Days are quick boats! They do well in the Wednesday night races in Clear Lake.
Another great video, Ziggy. Your channel is among my top four. The others are Roger Barnes (Brittany and UK), The Boat Rambler (Portugal), and Sailing Kate Louise (Australia). I’m sorry I missed this one!
It was a good run! More to come brother!
She turned out phenomenal! Makes me want to get started on my Welsford Penguin. BTW, I’m in Seadrift, Texas near the end of the 200 route😊
as Buddy would say, It's time to start making sawdust! hehe. The bays are calling brother!
Ziggy my wife and I are 80yrs old. In 1965 we spent our Honeymoon at Galveston Beach. My wife lost her engagement and wedding band in the surf. I hope someone had found it. Let me know if you or someone you know might have found it lol
guys pull rings out of that beach weekly, rehe
Great video Z man. 😀
Thanks for the shout out!
Those runways look like a good place to play with a land sail. Can't wait to get my WR16 wet. I've had it for a couple months but haven't had a chance to take it anywhere.
Miles of tarmac to play in.
Is it true that if the Mississippi River were to flood, the overflow would flow out the Atchafalaya River to the Gulf?
Yup. www.wunderground.com/cat6/Americas-Achilles-Heel-Mississippi-Rivers-Old-River-Control-Structure
The last time I was down there I overheard two mosquitoes arguing whether they should just eat me in the field or should they take me home and save for later.
I guess fishing could be similar to metal detecting.
It's all in the wrist...
Just an FYI a Tablespoon of yellow mustard will also work for indigestion
Appreciate the video 👍👍👍
Epic adventure! I'll go out on a limb here and proclaim that "Hot and Spicy Spam" plus booze equals epic heartburn.
Been known to happen .....
"Hot and Spicy Spam"! I guess I've lived a sheltered life, first I've heard. Have lots of regular Spam in our California earthquake supplies, try to rotate the stock out every couple of years. Spam and eggs!
Looks absolutely beautiful bud, Enjoy guys 👍
Thanks
Y'all weren't fishin', y'all were catchin! 😎
Buddy wants me to speed up the video of all the fishing into a time-lapse. Damn near every cat. We had a shark swim over our feet once too.
@@ZiggyLavengood That would be cool! What type(s) of sharks are found in those waters? When I was about 10 or 11 years old, I caught a 51" hammerhead while we were deep sea fishing off Ft. Lauderdale. Scared the crap outta me!
@@timwebb8153 that's a Buddy question, I'll get him on it!

What an inspiring adventure! Looks like too much fun. I want to do this! Next time you need to introduce the other two boats and their skippers (and crews), and talk a little bit about the boats. BTW, what did Buddy do with his Melonseed sailboat? He looks pretty happy with the new one!
Buddy sails his melonseed still. Different tools for different jobs. Mark and Tommy in the other boats I'm sure wouldn't have minded but I make it a point to not intrude in ppls space so ppl don't mind the camera. It's a tricky balance of ppl's privacy.
Of course I still have it!
Beautiful scenery, sorry y’all didn’t have much wind!!
No wind or crazy wind... seems like it's one or the other, hehe

Alright guys, if yall plan to do this again next year then count me in! I like how Bubby's just going for a little stroll in the bayou as if there ain't 100+ hungry gators out there waiting to chomp at the bits. 🤙⛵

Part 2 is done and ready for the drop next weekend
WHAT kind of boat is the one with the two round portholes / ?
drascombe.uk/range/d22
In the raft up, facing the three boats, I believe the middle one with Ziggy is a scaled up Wellsford Sweet Pea, the one to the left is the Mariner 19, and the one to the right is a Drascombe Coaster, although the window shape is different than stock. Please correct me if I'm wrong!
@@jmc32 you are correct. That is the only round window Drascombe in North America I'm told. The modified Sweet Pea's build is covered in a play list on my channel. We spent over a yr of working every day to build it.
