"I'm just a space cadet; he's the commander..."
The infamous quote from Alan Yentob's "Cracked Actor" documentary (1975).

Helen Kane - Don't Be Like That (1928)

A classic Jazz Age tune from the woman that inspired the cartoon character Betty Boop.
Never mind the sloblock!
Like the precursor to 8 out of 10 cats does countdown
No
Good "four each" of you
Jo "Mrs Chris Morris" Unwin as Carol
I remember this. Seems to me it had to be about the time of Ziggy Stardust.
1:08 this is how fast the clock feels it goes.
So.....an eight? An eight, that's an......eight. so what's your eight?
Right love Stephen fry in this so so funny 😂
i love helen kane
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
👀 👄 incredible
Right, so, uh... Right.
Stephen Fry has said for decades one of his guilty TV pleasures was watching Countdown on Channel 4, so no surprise come series three of Fry and Laurie they were spoofing it.
I haven't seen the program they parodying, but I am very certain it's spot on😂
100% spot on of the original Countdown of the 80s and 90s
That Richard Whiteley impression is uncanny.
I want that TWAT jumper 🤣🤣
The pregnant pause before “….right” is sublime comic timing.
I can’t get enough. It’s right up my street. 😅
BBC4 is currently showing series 1 of A Bit Of Fry And Laurie on Saturday evenings. I hope they show further series sometime soon.
Oh I hate how she white washed berry boop, it really makes me wonder how this song would sound like.
I would think that Gyles is honoured by this more than offended
Why am I splitting my sides at Stephen Fry's impersonation of Richard Whiteley? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
so good
Although Stephen’s now become a great public speaker/debater/author I do miss him as a comic actor in which he was brilliant at.
🏳️🌈
I got a 8 letter word but it's not appropriate. Bollocks I wanna share it so badly too but I'll have to keep it to myself
Of course, being a random person on the internet, rather than a celebrity, I can be far far sadder and complain that a) There are 9 letters in a round of Countdown, not 8 and b) You must choose at least three each of vowels and consonants.
BALLS, the things we keep in our Scrrrrrotums!
Man Stephen’s Whitely is spot on.
2021 this comment section makes me feel so alone lol
Question: Is it the man who is saying ' dont be like that ' or is her to him ( I know its her voice) just asking for the context
I think it's her telling the man not to be such a tease, to give her some more 'action' ;)
Who is playing Carol?
I still use the term sloblock even now.
same
She is such a Cutie. That soft Soothing voice.
To the 28 people u disliked Dont be like that
I remember this when it first aired, I absolutely howled at the Richard Whiteley take off....so damn accurate.
Ютуб💋за песню 💋 Майеру 👍✌️👍❤️
Right...
I may be 18 but I love Helen Kane
Right.
I only listened to this by a stroke of chance, I just muttered something random to my cat as I was having a play fight. My Samsung phone then looked this up without me asking it anything so therefore is this out of ordinary that this mistake could be creating a alternate time line than it would have been if I didn't find this song and now you are read this, so butterfly effects all round here.
An eight? Eight. So eight... Well that’s umm... well eight...
Baby Esther was the true original and Betty Boop. The creators of Betty Boop modeled her after Kane, not knowing she was just a copy cat who stole her look and sound from Baby Esther. Kane got pissed and tried to sue the creators of Betty boop for “using her” as a cartoon even though she stole her material from someone else. Esther tried to sue and was murdered
Fom her wikipedia page, "In 1934, Esther also attended a NAACP for Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. Robinson also taught Helena Justa and Florence Mills. According to a source, Esther later became a full-time acrobat and had later lost most of her appeal and was then succeeded by other black child stars such as Baby Hilda and Baby Selma."
Sorry, but that's nonsense. Helen Kane originated the style all by herself. After Fleischer Studios created Betty Boop, Kane sued them. At this point a character called Lou Bolton CLAIMED that Kane had seen Esther performing in the style in mid-1928. Not only was his story debunked at the time, but Kane was already performing in that style BEFORE that. Only in the last 10 years did someone deliberately misrepresent that, and it looks like you fell for it.
This had to be LA, I mean it just had to.
"I call you on the phone , and I get you on the phone, but you say you're not home" can we all admire the savage here
I really love that boop boop a doop
♥️♥️♥️sweeeeeeet.
Marlene was a unique lady at an unusual time in this world's history. To know her is to love her. It's sad compared to what we have now.

A FANTASTIC CLASSIC - BRINGS BACK MEMORIES INDEED !
Хорошие воспоминания👍
Does anyone know who is playing the Carol Vorderman role? Also, where can I get one of those jumpers?
I'm almost certain it's Rebecca Saire.
@@terratec1001 Here for this too, but I don't think it is... I think it's maybe Jo Unwin?
