      No, Helen Kane didn’t copy baby Esther. She was already singing like this and had recorded song including this one before supposedly seeing baby Esther as Lou Boulton claims. The Fleischers needed a witness and story to discredit Kane, and so they tried to say Kane stole someone else’s act (i.e., Esther Jones), but as I said, and you can prove yourself, Kane was already performing like this before seeing baby Esther. PLUS, her voice sounds more “Jewish-new Yorker” than black. You’re buying a false narrative and need to do more research.

      Reading the actual trial transcripts, the Fleischers wanted to show that other people had been doing Helen Kane's act, and making money off it, for years before Betty Boop first appeared. And that Helen Kane not only knew about it, but even encouraged it.
      Thd judge's verdict was NOT that Kane "hadn't originated it", but rather that Kane had done NOTHING to try and legally defend it until 1932, years after multiple people had made money off copying her.
      The funny thing is, Esther's act simply had her covering three Helen Kane songs, but not really being like Kane/Betty Boop at all.

    I only listened to this by a stroke of chance, I just muttered something random to my cat as I was having a play fight. My Samsung phone then looked this up without me asking it anything so therefore is this out of ordinary that this mistake could be creating a alternate time line than it would have been if I didn't find this song and now you are read this, so butterfly effects all round here.

      Not that I'm aware of. However maybe this will suffice. :) Mae Questel, who has a very similar voice to Helen's (in fact Betty Boop was based on Helen, and Mae was one of the voice actors who performed Betty's voice.) has a 1937 version of I Want You for Christmas and you can find it right here on UA-cam. That is if you even get this message since you left your comment so long ago.

    • @A2Z83
      @A2Z83 3 роки тому +1

      unfortunately helen kane doesnt have any christmas songs recorded although she was catholic. Interestingly betty boop was of the hebrew faith as was Mae Questel. Mae was originally a Helen Kane impersonator which is how she got the job doing Betty Boop.

  • @anaityketihw
    @anaityketihw 5 років тому +3

    Baby Esther was the true original and Betty Boop. The creators of Betty Boop modeled her after Kane, not knowing she was just a copy cat who stole her look and sound from Baby Esther. Kane got pissed and tried to sue the creators of Betty boop for “using her” as a cartoon even though she stole her material from someone else. Esther tried to sue and was murdered

    • @CinematicDiva
      @CinematicDiva 4 роки тому

      Fom her wikipedia page, "In 1934, Esther also attended a NAACP for Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. Robinson also taught Helena Justa and Florence Mills. According to a source, Esther later became a full-time acrobat and had later lost most of her appeal and was then succeeded by other black child stars such as Baby Hilda and Baby Selma."

    • @danielburger1775
      @danielburger1775 3 роки тому +2

      Sorry, but that's nonsense.
      Helen Kane originated the style all by herself. After Fleischer Studios created Betty Boop, Kane sued them.
      At this point a character called Lou Bolton CLAIMED that Kane had seen Esther performing in the style in mid-1928. Not only was his story debunked at the time, but Kane was already performing in that style BEFORE that.
      Only in the last 10 years did someone deliberately misrepresent that, and it looks like you fell for it.
