      Yeah I’ve used the Ikawa for a few years and I really like it. It makes roasting coffee samples so easy! All you have to do is decide on a profile and put the coffee in and it does the rest. Really nice if you have 20 coffee samples to roast. But I’ve also seen people using it at home. One batch a day for your morning brew 😛

      Hehe good question. Of these I think the Dutch masters roaster seems the most interesting for me. I know the guy who designed it and I think all the little details like reusing the heat and integrated scale would make roasting easier but still manual enough. I’ve used both the sample roasters and I love them both. The roest is the better quality roaster and will give you more detail and nuance. But the simplicity of the ikawa is genius. And the fact you can bring it anywhere in the world and get the same result is brilliant!

    Interesting point that the owner at Mantra said about dealing with the Italian people and their tradition of coffee, it must be hard for them to convince them to try something non traditionally. Italians are sticklers for tradition!

    Oh I was typing a long comment about coffee culture here in Madagascar. But it went away. We have great bourbon pointu we seek to Europe in very small quantities. The culture is for pan roasting robusta and brewing through the cloth like in Central America. Kaffegas it is called. There is a single large coffee company called Taff but it is more commodity Coffee to be served with milk and sugar. Madagascar is a very poor country and there headwinds for coffee shops. Lack of understanding about coffee. But it is growing slowly.

    Why are your interviews mostly show the presenter and not the machine? e.g. The Slayer, mostly see the presenter and back of machines. Only a few glimpse of the front of machines. It got better later on. We are interested in what the presenters say, but more interested in the machines themselves. It's still a very informative video of the latest Espresso machines. Thank you for great work.

    • @Ridethecoffeebean
      @Ridethecoffeebean 2 місяці тому

      You can make a decent espresso at home too, But making a really good one is hard without proper equipment. There are lots of smaller and cheaper machines that are fine for most people, but the exceptional espressos you kind of need a great maschine. And those are hard to find under 3000€ 😅

    • @TheSwoon69
      @TheSwoon69 2 місяці тому

      @@teneretraveller8980 there are plenty of options that are significantly cheaper. My entry was $1000. But one of the most well known and respected machines is the Gaggia Classic and is $500. You can go even cheaper looking at manual lever options from Flair. The big problem honestly comes from the fact that you also need an exceptional grinder. The grinder is going to have a bigger overall impact to what you get in your cup, the machine should kind of be invisible and have the features you need/want.

    • @ericpmoss
      @ericpmoss 2 місяці тому

      IMO, a great home setup is still expensive, but << $1000, is mostly home-reparable, and will last basically forever. I use a Cafelat Robot, an electric kettle that keeps water at boiling, and a 1zPresso hand grinder. I am just as happy with it as I was with my commercial machine and grinder that was nearly 10x the price. It doesn't steam milk, but if that's ok with you, it is hard to beat.

    • @procrusteus
      @procrusteus 2 місяці тому

      I use an Espresso Forge with a Kinu m47 hand grinder and a Bellman steamer. This completely manual setup is capable of producing hand-crafted artisan espresso on par with any of the machines shown in the video and you will save yourself potentially hundreds of dollars in maintenance fees per year as it is maintenance free and about as bulletproof a setup as ever existed. Also, no need to take up valuable counter real-estate as everything is compact and can be stored in a cupboard between uses. These manufacturers are preying on ignorant status-oriented consumers who want to show off the latest wizz-bang gadget to impress their circle of materialistic yuppie acquaintances . It won't be long before something breaks down or they become bored and sell it in order to upgrade to the next shiny object. It's endless, really.
