Armor is so fascinating
12:02 Shields coat of arms was often aided or replaced by surcoats Shields were usd less as to get at other plate you needed things like warhammers ir pollaxes or pollhammers Had an axehead or beak to focus blunt force as plate spread blunt hits over a wide area Both had small blunt heads too The armour was genrally fovused against thrusts, from arrows or bolts and lances which were the reasons plate was deemed to be necessary Arrows and sometimes bolts had started to be determined or projected fourth fast enough to break maille easier in which you could get hit under the maille often
Before the leg armour brigandine was used to keep armour flexible while they were unsure on how to make the entire torso flexible at the time, cuirasses and skirts if maille and plate eventually took hold
Attack stallion
Face shape, like Great Helm used for charge against arrows.😊
Me and my brother at 3 a.m. because we can't sleep:
I believe that is riveted mail, noice
That squire is useless,sack him
So, Normandy was in the South of France in those days, it sure moved a lot since.
0:43 Normandy is in the North of France, not the South
sorry i cant tell if you're talking to me or the guy next to me
What happened to this channel?
A little less conversation please!😘
So, if we had a time machine and wanted to send a spy into the Middle Ages equipped to be a knight, with typical armour and weapons of that time but made of modern quality steel, he'll probably be invincible? (of course if he also masters combat techniques)
Very cool video. By the 15th century, the role of knights were in severe doubt and by the 16th century they had started to disappear, this was because firearms, canons and professional armies were starting to be introduced into warfare. The same doubt is true for castles which had largely disappeared by the 17th century, the role of politics had changed and for the first time, regions were coming together to form the modern nation state as we know it. The 17th century nations rather would use standing armies in campaigns on an open battlefield, trench warfare was sometimes used. This is why we don't see castle sieges and knights on horses in the late 17th century or 18th century and onwards. Knights and castles were a product of the early to late medieval period which ended around the 1500s (16th century)
"the vikings plundered pillaged and raped, the last one is my favorite" BROOOOOOOOOOOO YOU CANT SAY THAT WTF xD
Normandy is North of Frannce not the South.... lol
THE VIKINGS SETLLE IN NORTHERN FRANCE, NOT SOUTHERN :-P
The really heavy was the 17th century heavy cavalry "bullet-proof" armor used in the early parts of the English Civil War (1642-1651) that could weigh around 70 to 95+ pounds. Steel was so strong and thick, it could stop a pistol bullet, but extremely heavy and was phased out for a minimal breast plat over a thick leather buff coat.
man, these videos were so great
facts sad that he stopped producing them
Aż się zdziwiłem że nie ma tutaj Polaków
Your squire needs to reread his job description, he's behaving more like a jester!
Where can i find the chainmail armor peices ive looked everywhere and i cant find them i already found a helmet just need the chain mail and the tunic and o believe the soldier wore a coat of plates as well over the chain mail and under the tunic
"War is nothing compared to taking a shit in full chainmail"
I miss this content
where are you plz make more videos
We have made some more videos for the "it's History" channel. We also have one called "Tylko Historia", but that one's sadly, only in Polish. :-)

Good point regarding mail armour. The Vikings had mail but it was expensive. Most warriors would have worn gambesons,.
Dressing up but not much insight. Not sure about the coif either.
Isn’t that gambeson a bit to 14th century like, to be placed back in the 8th century Scandinavia? No evidence have been found that gambason like this where worn underneath chainmail
13th century knights also started wearing a coat of plates as well.
Europe was specifically Catholic at this time. The Protestant Reformation hadn’t started until much later. Awesome video though. Normandy!! Lol
123 mam was
Why the hips arent protected with metal plates like tassets? I know the fact that you need a relative mobile waist to move, especially in a fight on foot. The problem is that the hips are a weak spot for horizontal cuts and a layer of maille plus gambeson or aketon wont do very much to absorb the damage
The tassets are a later invention. In the 14th c. the hips were also protected, but these were different sets of armours.
Also don't forget that the coat of arms of a man would be known to his friends as much as ones user icon would be recognised today. They're appointed, not chosen. For example, I hold pedigree papers and applied for my own coat of arms. I can request it include set elements, but what I get depends on what isn't taken and what the College of Arms, or Heralds' College considers appropriate for my lineage. For example, I requested something cool like a lion riding a tyrannosaurus wielding a chainsaw. But all I got was a big black cockrel. Ok, the latter is a lie. But you get my point.
7:13 And here you see why vikings bit their shields before battle. Soften up that piece of hide with spit and a bit of chewing and it'll swell, providing you a rest for the haft of your spear that is semi-tacky and hard for your spear shaft to slide down (or also to soften up the part of your shield you plan on trying to catch an enemies blade in if you're using a sword or axe on sword or axe). Or at least that's my take on it from using medieval weapons since the late 80's. But opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one, take it for what it is, some rand-o on the internet.
Some clear wrong informations...
Butted mail ... Why would you do that. Its the worst looking part of Armor :/ Its not tunic, its surcoat I believe :d
Mistake, prisoners were taken during the battle of Tanenberg/Grunwald, it was the need to pay the ransoms that bankrupt the Teutonic order.
My 13th century suit of armour came today
Did you say rape was your favorite part of Viking culture?
1:00 LOG LIVE SLAYER!!!🤘👿👺👹😈☠️🤟👨🏼🎤
DEUS VULT!!!!!!!!!!
What music was used for these?
Wazup with the cock-eye lol
I wish there wasn't loud ass music, which almost drowns the explanations.
Why you stopped doing this videos?
Lack of funds. You can check out some of our later videos on the "it's History" Channel. Currently we're thinking about how to get some financing, so we can make some more content.
Introduction was retarded and annoying.
Jesus is the only God in the universe not odin, odin was a man but died in his sins and is now in the grave, Jesus is God
What a zealot.
