B-ball Hard fall heat strokes were very rare. After 20 minutes or so knights started to take of their plate armour. Normal warriors would take of their coif and fight only with their helmet. Sometimes they were protected and took of their gambeson and put it on top of the armour to protect from the son.
Though what you said 1:08 about what Pope Urban II said in his speech is *correct*, I want to add something by saying that the First Crusade was not primarily a fight to save the endangered Christians from the Muslims, rather it was *mostly* started to protect Byzantium who were defeated in several battles by the Seljuk Turks. Excerpt of Pope Urban II's Speech at the Council of Clermont, emphasizing Byzantium's endangered state: "For your brethren who live in the east are in urgent need of your help, and you must hasten to give them the aid which has often been promised them. For... the Turks and Arabs have attacked them and have conquered the territory... They have occupied more and more of the lands of those Christians, and have overcome them in seven battles. They have killed and captured many, and have destroyed the churches and devastated the empire. This being said, Pope Urban II *did* use the Christian faith as a tool to persuade passionate Christians of the time to take up arms and defend Byzantium, who all ultimately moved onto the Holy Land, liberating the Holy Sepulcher and taking the east coast of the Mediterranean and a bit beyond. "If you permit them to continue thus for awhile with impurity, the faithful of God will be much more widely attacked by them. On this account I, or rather the Lord, beseech you... to publish this everywhere and to persuade all people... to carry aid promptly to those Christians and to destroy that vile race *from the lands of our friends*."
The imperial Inquisition varangian guard was the byzantine dudes guards and were typically from the north side of europe. not just rus although some might have been in the ranks
You should consider investing in a bit higher quality hauberk, I noticed yours missing any protection in the arm pits. Which is a necessity as one of your main arteries pass through there, the gambeson is by no standards easy to cut through. But you need just a few rings and a decently skilled Craftsman to add that last bit of protection
Where did you get your plaid surcoat/tunic at? I've scoured the interwebs looking for something like that and haven't found anything at all similar. Now i'm looking at having to make one by hand lol
Matt Madness Aha ? I hear a very American tinge, maybe he learnt English from an American. As I said being English I wouldn't know anything about an American accent.
the way his friend yelled from the ponie's back sounded like an german accent hahah well i dont know anymore... but pretty sure its not american *(even tho i dont know anything about it neither) tickipooh
Poland. :-) Sadly enough for now, we're out of funds to do more, but you can check us out on another channel called "It's History". We did some episodes there as well.
it's called a surcoat, and saying all crusaders wore that is an inaccuracy. There is variability throughout all groups and communities participating in the crusade. Sure there may have been a few but not all
I know this comment is 6 years old but that’s a Templar thing and they didn’t exist yet at the time of the First crusade, a typical knight at the time wore a mail hauberk down to mid thigh and the typical Norman nasalhelm style
If you want armor that isnt too big you should get it custom made :p Buying already made armor pieces will always be either too big or too small, of course unless you're lucky.
''I brought you a stallion sire!''
Oh man that cracked me up, that was something that could have been straight from monty python.
Tell me about it; all I could think was "My little pony, my little pony..."
@@dragonstar2387 freaking lame kids show
Or a pair of coconut halves to be faithful.
Great video!
But Normandy is in the north of France, not south ;)
Fernando Barbosa I don't think you could invade Britain from the south of France either
Deo Proximo Well, I bet you could, it just wouldn't have been very practical! The Normans did manage to invade Sicily, after all.
Awesome work, the stallion is very impressive!
I imagine heat stroke would be quite the problem with that thick gamberson in the desert sun.

Crazy Zombie
There was no plate armor before the 14-15th century.
@@SoI_Badguy there was. Just less common and used mostly for aesthetic. The earliest european plate armors were badly made but looked good.
Honestly id just line my chainmail with canvas underneath so i dont boil in the desert while wearing it.

And centuries later Byzantium was defeated by crusaders. Sad history moment.

Interesting video👍
0:43 Normandy is in the North of France, not the South
Hilarious, and it taught me some things!
Very nice, earned a sub and like
I love mail armor it's amazing.
So, Normandy was in the South of France in those days, it sure moved a lot since.
3:31 My morning routine.
There were no gambesons or maille mittens by the time of the First Crusade.
"For the grace for the might of our lord for the home of the holy for our faith and the way of the sword gave their lives so boldly"
IN THE NAME OF GOD!!!!
sorry i cant tell if you're talking to me or the guy next to me
This is pretty awesome
What was the length of the chainmail, was it 40 or 36 inches?
Where did you get your plaid surcoat/tunic at? I've scoured the interwebs looking for something like that and haven't found anything at all similar. Now i'm looking at having to make one by hand lol

Man, eroupe really needs to get on an another crusader
There buckler shields to they were good at hitting ppl with and knock their weapons out of their hands

Europe was specifically Catholic at this time. The Protestant Reformation hadn’t started until much later.
Awesome video though. Normandy!! Lol
Great video and cool looking armor though can you please make Saracen armor please
Genialny angielski akcent wow
Normandy is the northern coast line of France against the English Channel.
I can not find any mail anywhere the has built in mittens please help if you can, I want to buy some real stuff instead of generic butted mail.
Normandy is north not south of france.
Normandy is North of Frannce not the South.... lol
Devx le Volt!!
Plate armour was easier to put on? You are so wrong.
it was put on piece by piece though
If you want armor that isnt too big you should get it custom made :p Buying already made armor pieces will always be either too big or too small, of course unless you're lucky.
Maciej Dolny Slower to put on, and requiring assistance, but not quite as awkward and squirmy as mail...
It depends what plate armour your gonna wear. Breastplates are easy to put on. Plus modern platearmor is not the same as real medieval armor
