MP5 v. Scheel v. Maxim v. GRS. How do they compare?
Comparing the roller delayed MP5 vs. roller delayed Scheel system for 9mm AR vs. Maxim drop-in bearing delay for 9mm AR vs. the Gentle Recoil System which has no mechanical delay at all. The Scheel was loaned to the channel by a viewer.

    Wrong. I have the Maxim and the " Gentle Recoil" system. I used the tungsten weights instead of two lighter weights which requires a longer buffer tube. I run a $1 5.56 carbine spring. No need for a flat wire spring. I shoot much heavier bullets. Shot a MP5 today using 115 grain factory ammo vs my Maxi system with my 150 power factor 147 yr bullets. Recoil was identical. You must not reload. Btw you need to spend some time in the gym to build up some muscle. I have no problem cocking the Maxim with a regular charging handle. You should do your tests with the same length barrels.

      No flatwire spring isn't needed. It's smoother and doesn't twang like a round wire spring. It's a review so letting people know the maxim is harder to charge than a regular Ar15/ Ar9 is part of a good review. Yes heavier bullets have less felt recoil. But 115gr range ammo is still what most people use and is a fair standard across the board. Did you really claim the maxim with your handloads is as soft as the mp5 with factory ammo?? I mean no duh.

    So I actually talked to maxim defense on how to setup the RDB, they said to put it in the tube and tighten it up (with no plunger or spring) until it touches the bolt. It should be in contact with the bolt. So it kinda has a tiny bit of preload. Other than that I found it didn't really change much versus installing it with a gap and using the plunger and spring to lock it in.

      Yeah I dont remember seeing anything on installing it so eventually I just called and asked. it makes sense though because you don't want any sort of gap if you want to prevent bolt bounce. Essentially this way it acts as one continuous system.

    • @newyoutube6282
      @newyoutube6282 5 днів тому

      The options tested already included the best blowback buffer recipe: the gentle recoil system. A heavy buffer might be the same weight as the GRS but will often bounce (unless it's a heavy buffer with a sliding weight that counters the bounce). The hydrolic dampener in the GRS does this and prevents bolt bounce.

    • @ZChaosFactor
      @ZChaosFactor 5 днів тому

      Its already been tested before. All these setups blow the good old heavy blowback out of the water. We there's nothing to be gained from comparing them. Like was mentioned the GRS is an extra heavy direct blowback except with a hydraulic buffer.

      What everyone else said! The GRS is the step-up improvement I came up with over just a heavy 10-11oz. buffer. A heavy buffer definitely helps, but adding the hydraulic impact cushion component and a flatwire spring makes a big difference.

    What is the total weight of reciprocating mass(bolt & buffer)? I’ve been using the KynShot RB5015 (21.5 oz) with a Wilson Combat spring in my SA Saint Victor 9mm with great results. No jams and perfect ejection.

    • @Blowback9

      14.7 bolt + 11.5oz. with the 5.5oz. K-SPEC and tungsten weights, similar to the original Gentle Recoil System. The K-SPEC doesn't have as good impact cushioning as the hydraulic buffers and doesn't perform well with this much mass. BTW, mass and springing in a blowback has little to do with jams and ejection. Those are due to the mag feed angle/height and the ejector position relative to the bolt.

    For the EPC, are you using an EPC upper/lower set or just the EPC LRBHO Upper? I switched to a Ballistic Advantage 8" and the feed cone have executed flawlessly with the G17 magazines. Current setup is a 10oz KVP tungsten buffer, standard spring, Foxtrot Mike Products BCG, and a very slightly touched pin from the LRBHO EPC upper (crimped less than a mm). Have not had issues with feeding yet but will comment if I get something weird or the jams come back. As always, LOVE, your videos. Such a fun hobby man, wish there were more dudes around like you to brainstorm with and try stuff out!

      Understood - based on your experience does the added mass improve the shooting experience through less perceived recoil? Clearly not to the same degree as the GRS, but a small improvement to a standard buffer system?

    • @Blowback9
      @Blowback9 5 днів тому

      @@vincefasano1817 Yes. More mass does improve felt recoil by slowing the action and distributing the recoil impulse over a longer period of time.

    With the 4" buffer what length buffer tube do i need

      Standard carbine buffer tube with a 4" buffer and 9mm bolt.

    I appreciate the website and related videos you put out Sir! I was having issues with my recent 9mm PCC build with the KAK colt magazine adapter. Turned out it was the ejector not sitting right in the bolt and this video helped sort me out! heated, bent, verified positioning. Now it runs like a beast.

    I just built my first ar9 using your grs and used a ballistic advantage barrel, it has a large chanfer for feeding which is nice but I can see the back of the bullet. Is that normal or is something wrong?

    • @Blowback9
      @Blowback9 5 днів тому

      Perfectly normal. See photos here: blowback9.wordpress.com/2022/08/18/4-step-guide-to-make-almost-any-ar9-run-100/

    If you are worried about "pistoning" with those rounds? Drill some holes in the back of the buffer tube like H&K does for the OTB "Over the Beach" M16 modification. Lot easier than grinding tungsten.

      @Blowback9 5 днів тому

      The Aero Enhanced buffer tube has holes in each buffer detent notch too - that will help a lot with air flow.

    I'd love to see A5 tubes comparing the hydrolic buffer and 2 weights vs the KAK plus the TACCOM mini add on buffer spring.

    did I do something wrong, I haven't had any problems with my AR9 I built from parts from multiple vendors

    • @Blowback9
      @Blowback9 5 днів тому

      Nope. Most of the time everything will work "good enough" to function without major problems. Sometimes the stacking tolerances all come together for a system that works perfectly and feeds everything.

    Does the K-Spec GRS variant have as much dot bounce as the hydraulic GRS?

      I didn't compare them, but I'd expect so. Same mass moving in the tube.

    I am a competitive shooter PCC IDPA. What system would you recommend? I am currently running a KynSHOT 5015HD with a 5.56 carbine spring. I use 160 gr 9mm bullets at a 135PF. Gun shoot fairly soft. MY 45ACP AR shoots as soft as a MP5 using the same spring and buffer.

    Im using a standard 556 lower..so i bought the sylvan arms magwell adapter and that has its own ejector that seems to be short..doesnt reach the top of the channel of the bcg. Is there a magwell adapter you can recommend that would work better and accept glock mags?

    This is proof of concept/experimental. For anyone curious, these are the weights I'm using, but they needed some air channels and beveling for reliability. pur-tungsten.net/shop/3-oz-tungsten-pinewood-derby-cylinder-weight/
