1) The atheist supposed gotcha is that 9 million children died and they all went to hell. But this is not what Christians believe nor what scripture teaches. God is just and will judge according to how folks lived while on earth, nature, nurture and lack thereof. All of us are on our way to hell without Christ Jesus in our lives. But for most of us, we have heard about Jesus and what we do or don't do with him is our greatest choice. Jesus died on a cross for all of our sin, our wrong doing, past, present and future. He has made a way so we can be made right again with God who is our Father in heaven. Prior to Jesus's sacrifice, God judged people by how they acted. Because all humankind is created in God's image, we all know right from wrong. I believe this logic will apply to those such as indigenous people. But for the rest of us, we get to choose Jesus! Concerning evolution, it is a fairytale that does not hold up to the scientific scrutiny. In fact, honest scientific scrutiny renders it impossible. Do you know a single scientific hypothesis using known biological mechanisms coupled with evolutionary time frames that might support common ancestry between any two animals from any two different family taxon?

I'm an ex-Christian atheist and the likes of Sam and Hitch and the great Dawkins played a big part in my becoming one. What I absolutely hate now is people like the guy he talks to at 7:20-ish. It says a "serpent", speaking to character of Satan, subtle. Also, Satan means adversary. There are over 20 different descriptive names for satan. Which is why he called a beast and calf. 7. During the "dispenation of grace" there are no prophecies one can observe to know about the return of christ. 8. The next thing in the bible to happen is not the return of christ but: Romans 11:25 KJV - For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in." 9. The bible does not say we are made in God's image. It says Adam was. It says we are made Adams image. Reminds me of George Carlin in that he practices selecting just the right words and the right analogies to shape the absurdities about which he speaks. The people he debates don't seem practiced in their arguments. They believe particular ideas without serious reflection. Lawyers understand how to anticipate the opposition and thus argue more effectively. Harris does likewise.

Well this is obviously false ... assume for the sake of argument no allegiance to "YHWH" and merely take "the deity" as being "The Tao" or "The Logos" or "even the Deist God "of Jefferson ... The laws of physics are what they are. Life is possible because of this. According to Sam's lights, every time a child gets sick or someone gets malaria, or tectonics move and cause a tsunami, what? the deity is supposed to suspend the laws of physics? that's just sloppy thinking. And its anti-rational and inconsistent logically. It's completely intellectually lazy to just say, "Well, I don't know how to reconcile the two so God (or whatever) just doesn't exist" The thing is, Sam is an educated PhD in neuroscience, and he fully knows that cancer is a mutation of information (telemere length mutation). He knows, furthermore, that it is a mutation of information using processes of entropy and noise upon which other physical systems make life on earth possible. So this is just polemics. He has no real point of substance, or refuses to engage with the philosophical hard problem, so he behaves philosophically like an 8th grader. Sam is (in this video at least) a complete bullshit artist. I suppose this is good for selling books though. There is no substantive argument "against" religion here , although those may be formulated, but this non-sense isn't it. Ah, if only God (or whatever) were as moral as Sam.

I think that these days many believe the bible because if we are actually here alone and there is no 'god' saving the world, it is far too scary for them. It's a clinging onto something that can 'fix or help' us. Religion is definitely a fear based system.
