I made a dress out of Oysters for Science
This is Science Cosplay! I sew real oyster shells onto a handmade dress! No oysters were harmed in this video. In fact many of the shells are very very old. I know this is a little different from what I usually post. I hope you enjoyed watching me combine my two interests! I'm planning to bring this cosplay to more science and cosplay conventions.

Soul Eater cosplay tutorial. Professor Stein has been one of my favorite characters for a while so I am happy to finally get around to making him! It was so much fun to use many second hand materials to create this project. I even tried out some foam work while being primarily a seamstress. Thanks for watching!

you did such an amazing job omg its so cute!!!! and ur hand stitching is so even pls give me some of ur power🙏🙏
A beautiful lady, in a beautiful dress, telling a beautiful message about a beautiful shellfish. I adore the color you chose. You have an amazing talent. ❤
how awesome :D really gorgeous stuff
I swear this is the one of the sweetest videos on the whole internet!!!! Tysm for your environmental work and for sharing this with us! I always love seeing people sew as chaotically as I do haha
@@EmL-kg5gn aww omg! This comment brought a smile to my face 💙 thank you!!
Stunning
@@scarletstitchstudios thanks!
Thats not a Lot of oysters
I bet it smells SALTY
The whole dress isnt just oysters i thought when it said made out of otsters
It's a BEAUTIFUL dress!! Congratulations
@@GhislaineBeauce thank you!!!!
Just a heads up for the future. You don't have to alter the dress to fit a mannequin. You can pad the mannequin out to fit the dress. Museums do this all the time with historical garments.
@@nondisclosureable very true!!! Sadly I didn’t have the materials for that but imma plan ahead next time :)
Yeah the historical costuming community can be pretty white and terrible. I stopped watching a lot of them since they only give a whitewashed romantised version of the past.
I clicked for my (incorrect) assumption that you somehow turned oysters into fabric and stayed for oyster conservation <3
Same!
Same here
same lol
That is definitely what the title implies.
Same, I feel kinda disappointed and click baited. If you’re interested in a quick look at some fabric made from shell search “How was it made? Japanese hikihaku obi | V&A”. About halfway they show fabric woven from mother of pearl thread.
This is lovely! 4:06 and 5:15 really speak to me: now every time I'm fighting a zipper or an odd seam I'll ask myself _but could I cover it with oyster shells_ and I think that's going to point me in some interesting directions.
@@rachelwahlig8756 lmaooooo 😂 honestly that will definitely give you some interesting results 💙
Woww love it it suits u very well❤❤❤❤
@@alloyghost3604 thank you!!! 💙💙💙💙
Your dress looks stunning!! 🥹 I love how you meshed together both of your interests so perfectly and thoughtfully! Also really adore the environmental aspect of it! Just subscribed 💪🏽💪🏽

The dress is beautiful! I hope you have a good day!
@@13sinra13 thank you!!! I hope you had a good day as well 😊
Neat concept and great execution, quit lovely
Thank you!!!! 😊
I'm so inspired by your honesty throughout this whole process, I always feel pressured to make the process look "perfect"...but it's so normal to make mistakes, and so realistic (and honorable) to show that not every step of the process went 100% perfectly. I have so many worries about my projects not going well that I feel paralyzed at the thought even starting them, because so much of what I see online is people who are experts or can edit things to make them look perfect...anyway. I just really appreciate your genuity. I hope to see more videos that allow you crossover between science and costuming in the future 😊
I totally relate to this feeling! It sometimes seems like everyone knows how to make everything perfectly, so I’m happy to show that’s not really the case. I struggle a lot but I always end up having a lot of fun!! I hope you also have fun making your future projects and you try things you’re not sure if you can make. As crafters we just gotta trust the process and hope everything comes out okay :) !!! I’m in talks with more scientists to make their research into clothing so let’s hope that works out 🤞🏾
Oh the fear of messing up. I've entirely put off learning how to sew despite really wanting to because of it. And I always told my mom I'm not a perfectionist...
@@Faith-wz7hu I'm the same way!! Aside from my other holdups, I'm so nervous I'm going to create something terrible that I feel unable to even try. I'm trying to be so brave though...
You did an awesome job. Both you and the dress look gorgeous 😍
Aww thank you 😊
I love your voice
Aww thanks!
this is hilarious and sooooo cool
Thank you!
I really love the dress, I was glad I was able to see it in person, can't wait to see your next video❤❤❤

Look spectacular ❤ love it!
Thank you!
Omg the handsewing 😱 love seeing you work with these fun fabrics!! Monster high group when??
Ahhh! I’m happy you appreciate my work!! A monster high group would seriously be so fun :D
for big props with large surface areas like nw’s axe, you can use insulation foam! it’s very lightweight and dense, and it’s easier to paint on than styrofoam 👍 they sell huge boards of them in michaels and home depot. i really enjoyed watching this build!
Good idea!! Styrofoam is such a pain to pant haha. Thank you!!! 😊
@@blueclarice make sure you sand and prime all your foam before you paint on it, it not only does it give it a smooth surface, it will stop the foam from drinking up all the paint!! ❤️
Next time use the pink form, way easier then styrofoam
Good idea!
dope
Thanks!
