Beautifully said! I feel like a lot of times, the time and emotions we spend overthinking and doubting ourselves can actually take more effort than simply sitting down and just starting. The key is to remember to give ourselves a reality check from time to time to stop that mental spiral. :)

Thank you for putting my thoughts perfectly into words. This video is art. Btw it’s perfectly normal to mix photography, writing and painting. You can print photos and write and paint on it, you can make collages or you can animate it and make mixed media, you should try it!

You truly are a writer! I love your "what am I?" list... mine looks almost the same, and also has musician crossed out XD I also have gamer and animator on there tho. Yes, I wish we could do it all, but then nothing ever get's accomplished. It's hard to focus on one thing. I feel the need to create stories in every sense, touch, see, hear. I love your handwriting!

Holy cow, that's me! I'm delighted that I inspired you enough to both check out Marie-Noelle as well as to make a whole video about her ugly sketchbook exercise. What's interesting about your process to me, is how you stated that you judge yourself for your little drips in the wrong places...whereas, for me (as a non-watercolor artist), I find them charming and part of the watercolor process. It shows that you're human, that you were there. That the art was created by someone and didn't just magically spring forth in perfect expression like the internet makes us feel like everyone else's work does lol.

Thank you for sharing this!! I think I really needed to hear that right now. It's comforting to have a lot of the same thoughts mirrored. It's been a while since I've posted on here and it's so hard sometimes to just put myself out there at times, especially cause I have a hard time following through long term projects. Though, I've been thinking of this one line from another video along the lines of, "it's better to have a real portfolio of 8/10's rather than a brain of 10/10's" which I keep coming back to. I also struggle with painting/drawing or anything really when there is no prompt. Like, if there's no "obligation" then why should I draw? I know it's the wrong mindset but sometimes I look for videos like yours or pinterest pictures to get inspiration. Sometimes just copying someone to get started works too

Three or four times, as you spoke, I heard an underlying connection between doing your art and your YouTubing, as if they were inextricable from each other. Julia Cameron wrote The Artist’s Way more than a decade before the advent of You Tube, when, in fact, the internet was just a blip on anyone’s radar. I’m not trying to judge or persuade you in any direction, but I do think that the thought of posting your work should not be on your mind as you create…it seems to be robbing you of the joy OF creating! But you’re right…whatEVER you do, just. Keep. Going! You ARE an Artist! 🎨👊🏼✌🏽

It's really not a good idea to compare yourself to people on social media! The thing is, you don't know how that art was produced. It could he traced or otherwise copied, and A LOT of it is. A lot of it is smoke and mirrors....remember, those people want recognition, not to produce good art. Always be _very_ skeptical of anything people post online!!!!

Hobbies are so hard to manage in today’s world where work and school and social life are all calling for attention. It really does have to be something we are so intentional about. Super inspiring to see you take that action!

I resonate with a lot you touched on. I have a little mantra “Begin again” I say it in my head over and over. I find it helps when I am feeling motivated, but even more so, in its absence. For some reason it takes away the shame of returning from a long break. I also tell myself it’s the catalyst for momentum :) KEEP GOING 🫶

Thanks for this. I'm going through a similar time in my life, as I got laid off in the spring. I heard you when you said you wanted to redo 2023 but for me it was moreso me doing way too much and not being able to keep up with it all or enjoy it. This year has been about returning to myself and being mindful about what I do take on.

I’ve been going through this exact thing while being unemployed the last year. I quit my job to move to spain for a while but came back home without knowing what to do and finding getting good jobs to be stupid difficult in my town, especially without being able to drive. I’m also not a self starter (horrible ADHD) and fall into despair over my inertia fairly easily/regularly. that being said I’m still working to dig myself out of this hole, and though I often have those times where I lament over not doing something sooner/different/enough, I find comfort in the idea that life is seasonal, and there are periods of lows and rest and regrets that we must go through to bloom the best versions of ourselves in the future. we can be growing as people without even realizing it. I may not have gotten medicated for my ADHD without this downtime, and for once in my life I’ve started a regular daily writing practice that has lasted me 6 months now; that alone is a serious achievement that I don’t think I would’ve reached without ample space to fail and regroup. thanks so much for sharing this- I’m genuinely so happy to see my experiences validated by someone else. I hope your time at home gets more and more rewarding each day. 💖

It might help to start your day with a 15 minute walk to really wake up your body. Likely bonus is having breakfast instead of just coffee. Try it for a week?

there are so many things i would love to create but i lack the motivation and resources to do so, since everything online is 'you have to buy this limited edition tool for this hobby or else you will suck at it forever!!', so i was surprised when u stated to 'use what u have', thank you for making this video :)
