Threw on the Gore-Tex Raincloud Rainiers the other day, such a great silhouette that doesn't get enough love imo (as far as hiking/trail shoes go). Also love my dark green gore-tex 580's from last year, once the weather really turns to fall (chilly, rain, wet) then the rotation gets alot smaller lol lots of castelrocks and gore-tex stuff. I always have a backup pair of grey v4's or v6's in my car/work truck in case of random weather year round, but having something waterproof is a must. Great video as always bro, and congrats on the Bean v4's, def one of my favorites, not easy to find in good condition these days. 🫡

I have worn NB 990's since 1985. From the time Covid began, The NB1 Custom Shoe factory has been closed and hasn't yet reopened. I am a diabetic and need to pay attention to my feet. I need a supportive, comfortable and durable shoe (living in Florida where shoes become wet on a regular basis and must be washed in the washer) For the past 3 years I have purchased shoes from the largest European manufacturer that have altered the knuckle geometry of my feet. I now walk with a limp due to lack of sole support, flexibility and cushioning. I'm now back to a standard pair of 990's in "boring" grey for $200 and can tell you ANY 990 will make you LOOK GOOD, help RETAIN and actually CORRECT foot issues. This is a product I will recommend to everyone as THE GREATEST FOOTWEAR EVER PRODUCED. It's also made in the USA...

Very nice shoes, but personally I find them a bit heavy, especially compared to 990s. They're really ideal for lifestyle use or on feet for long hours and have amazing comfort and support, but if I know I'll be walking a lot I'd sooner wear a 990 model for the weight savings. The 991s seem super durable though, probably take a very long time to wear them out.

Functionally speaking, why doesn’t NB release any of their 990 series shoes with Gore-Tex? Until that happens, the discontinued all leather 990V4s that you showcased some time ago are your best bet for keeping your feet semi-dry in a 990 during messy Fall weather.

Are these shoes made for running?

I always go TTS as I find my feet can change size a bit later in the day, and so I'd rather have more space. Also good for different socks, I like a heavier sock for longer walks. In addition, I can always just tighten the laces or even change the laces orientation up for a more snug fit. I really don't like sizing down and our feet can change over time as we age too. Just my thoughts.

I’m about to pick up these 1906r (cordura) outerspace/black on NB site for the water resistance but they never even mentioned the cordura on the description oddly but the cordura tag is clearly in pics

Thanks for the review. I finally caved and bought my 1st pair of 990v6 this weekend! I ordered the recent Castlerock/Moonrock colour, it looks so good to me. I totally fell in love with the 990v4 based off your other review, but with some of my other fitness activities I really wanted the v6's to change it up a bit. Nice to see they hold up well also, I've worn the v4's a ton and they have virtually no signs of wear yet.

Glad you got the pair you wanted. Totally feel you on finding steals on ebay 😂 its an amazing feeling when you copp a steal. My rarest pair is the 997 Concepts "Pats" colorway, the red suede is gorgeous 1/50 pairs, and I have 2 of them 😅.

I’ve been waiting for this and agree with you totally. They do look better on foot and worn than they do new in a weird way. If you paid top $ or whatever for them then wear them, don’t just look at them every so often. I wear mine almost all the time and they’re in the same shape thereabouts. Nice to get your thoughts on them and an excellent vid thanks.

I love 2002R's, but I don't think they beat 990s or 993s. They're definitely good though, a more casual and less sporty 1906 or 860 to me. Well worth a pick up, especially on sale.

The 1906's are great for sure, been meaning to pick up a pair at some point. I've been wearing my 2002R's the past month, around 8000-10000 steps a day nature walking, and I have to say they're one of my fav NBs next to my 990s as well. One thing I appreciate on the 2002R is the tongue, it's super comfortable and plush and the shoes are lighter than my 990s which helps for long trips.

I didn't find the model comfortable but they could of been fake.I bought a pair of 1906R off GOAT, I did some research online and UA-cam, I questioned the authenticity and went back and forth about returning them, waited too long only a 3 day return policy, they were coming from another country so...I should have known

993 = wider, more room in toebox, better comfort, rounder toebox. 991V2= reminds of an Air Max 1: pointy, flat, narrow toebox, heel sits higher than toes. Crazy good option for those who don't like that junky forefoot look, most NBs have. I definitely prefer the 993,990V3, 990V4, 2002R over the 991V2, when it comes to overall fit and comfort.

Hey, I am on the lookout for a gray sneaker. Could you give me a few suggestions in addition to 574 from brands except New Balance. Also, Is 574 an everyday wear, can I use it in rotation? twice or thrice a week? Would that usage wear them out early?
