The efficiency of any wing-lift device relies on the minimum disc/wing loading. These stubby blades with their rapidly changing angles of attack are going to suffer from very high wing loading but also suffer from shock-stalling due to the rapidly changing angles of attack. No doubt the idea can be made to function but in my opinion it will be fearfully inefficient as a means of providing lift.

How does it hold up to hail or tornadic winds? Does it have a limiter on it so it doesn't overspin or can the unit take a hit from pea to golfball size hail???

Cycloidal props work well in water....not well in air as they're too small and need to spin too fast. Big thrust needs big bite and surface area engaging the air and cycloidal props just don't have it.

This horizontal helix turbine design should be much-much safer for birds, when compared to typical vertical open blade options and being silent, that will help everyone. Yes, I know there are other helical turbines on the market. The water is warm, innovators jump in!

It'll never work in the USA because we never measure in kilometers. So no electricity ever from this generator. MPH is our go to system because the entire nation is measured off already in miles, and that's the way it is forever.

I have solar PV that is 13.3kW and produces 85kWh a day in summer and 60kWh a day in winter (NSW Australia). The system cost me $11k. So I would need 20 of these turbines to match at a cost a $118,000.....Yep destroys every home renewable hey

To be fair all renewable sources suck, so outperforming them is easy. With the exception of geothermal and hydroelectric.

As soon as i heard "need a clear sky" instantly knew it was full of shit XD optimally yes and not. too much sun makes the panels less efficient as the panels heat up in the sun.

I have yet to see a video that shows the whole system needed to make this work and the total cost to install one. all I see is propaganda from each company pointing out the benefits of their machine.

So tell us - how are the wind turbines that cost millions of dollars in the desert or the ocean hold up? Did they pay off what it cost to build them? Are they continuing to maintain them or give up and just let them decay after they burn out. I'm not against alternative power - just wasting money on something that costs more to build than it returns in power savings.

What's to prevent you from using both at the same time? No wind then it's probably sunny out. If there is moderate to strong wind, good chance cloudy out... Really strong wind, then there is a hurricane or a tornado and house won't be there long and your not gonna care about either for a while... Night time and no wind; is there a nuclear option? BOOM!!!

This actually isn't bad. It's probably a very simple mechanism, it'll last a lot longer than solar. It's far more efficient, and compact. My only issue is the price tag of 5 grand for something I can put together by making a stop at menards and autozone. In fact, if NASA's new ionic thruster is applied, we could unlock permanently renewable energy. A 1:-1 conversion rate could be achieved.

I'm not suggesting that these wind turbines aren't potentially an important element in a renewable energy environment BUT stating that solar panels are dependent upon clear skies while neglecting to acknowledge that wind turbines are similarly dependent upon having adequate wind (11+mph) is misleading. Comparing the "potential" power generated by a wind turbine (assuming constant adequate wind) while deprecating the potential input of solar is an unfair comparison. A combination of solar panels and wind turbines would likely be the best choice for most residential or commercial applications.
