Morning Field Report for Central Oregon Waterfowl Saturday, January 25th, 2025. Last day for me!!
We are back at it one more time for the 2024-2025 ducks and goose season for Central Oregon. Ended up being okay. Shot pretty terrible, but we had a good time. I hope you had a great season as well pursuing those ducks and geese in Central Oregon or wherever you live and hunt!

We are back at it once again. The Crooked River is just feet over normal and flooded out. We are back in the dip again with a massive set of goose decoys as well as several dozen duck decoys. We shot pretty well. I had a DU supporter and two newer hunters in the blind. We ended up with 7 ducks and one goose. Well, we are back at it once again. Back in the field setting, decoys in the flooded dip. We did okay today. Some ducks were flying but not as good as it was on Monday. We are back at it once again. We didn't set up on the river as it was even higher this morning than on Saturday. We hunted a flooded dip in the back field with just a couple dozen decoys and using my Motion Ducks to make movement happen. We had several groups of mallards decoy right in the morning. I'm back at it once again. Weather had been pushing through Central Oregon the past few days with a ylton of rain last night. I found the river to be about 2 to 3 feet higher than last week. Super slow again with all this water to hold ducks everywhere, but this blown out river today. Hope you were out pursuing those ducks and geese today.

Another super slow morning on the Crooked River. This warm weather pattern is very uncommon for this late in the season. It was almost 40° when I showed up this morning. I ended up taking 3 passing shots at some geese.and that was it!! Hopefully, the sub-freezing temps show up soon. I hope you had a better weekend pursuing ducks and geese than I did. Go get it!!

The weather has been so warm this past week that the ducks are spread out everywhere besides my spot. It reached 55° this week in Bend and had just made the past 3 hunts very challenging. I haven't shot my gun 2.5 hours into the hunt, and I am not sure how to change that. There are lots of geese around, but nothing is coming by our set. Hope you are doing better than us pursuing those waterfowl...

It's my birthday! Big 50 today. My son joined me today on an afternoon hunt. It was super slow again for the second day in a row. I am still happy to enjoy time in the field with my son. I hope you had a better weekend hunting than we did, but we got out and did our best in Central Oregon.

Another day on the Crooked River. Much slower than expected today. Weather warmed, and the snow melted overnight. Two ducks and one goose is all we could scratch out today. Reports from up river were much better than my blind. That's just how it goes some days hunting.

I'm new and uninformed, what's the deal with the tagged birds?
@Chamonix.frequently Fish and Wildlife researchers catch and band thousands of ducks and other birds annually for collecting data on them. If you shoot a banded duck, there is a number on the band. You input that info into an online system, and it gives you information on where the duck was banded, by who and when. The information you give lets the wildlife folks gather extra data on migration patterns and other pieces of information for better insights into the species. It is just rare to get a duck with a band. Maybe 1 in 5000 has one. Thanks for asking!

It's been really slow the last two weekends !! Ended up with two green and a wig this morning!! We need another good freeze to put them back on the river !!

Nice to see another Central Oregon waterfowler, that was a hell of a week last week, but I've been on the struggle bus this week.
@underthetrees4780 thanks for watching and comment. Yeah, it's been a slow year for the most part. I'm looking for some cold temps to get it ramped up. My buddy up on the Columbia did well today and said there was a noticeable increase in overall birds in in the Hermiston area.

Thanks. It opens up the second weekend of October. We have been at it for about a month and a half now, and it runs to the last week of January.
