OPENING DAY Whistler Blackcomb 2024/2025 #whistler #openingday
Join me for another epic opening day at Whistler Blackcomb. November 21, 2024 the lifts started spinning and welcoming snowboarders (and skiers) back for another winter. I kept it easy with the gopro / dji RAW POV vibes so you can follow along on the fun we all shared. From fresh powder to solid mountain vibes with friends, this was an opening day to remember. 2024 has been delivering some huge snow storms and the mountains are setting up very nicely! British Columbia is going to be the spot this winter if this powder continues to stack up.
Thanks to the crew for such a great day. Riders were bouncing in and out but a few to mention that you'll see in this video; @ChrisRasman , @airtimepodcast (Jody) , Robjn Taylor, Belzile, @LiamStevens , Bailey, D Mo, Adam Chuntz, Shane Gilbertson, Ben Poechman, Darrah Reid, Erin Hogue, Thomas Doyle, Russell Chai, Adam Djunaedi, Marcos Miranda, Sean Miskiman, Spencer Obrien and many more (sorry if i forgot you I'm tired)

Is StepOn EST that different? In Depth review 2025 Burton StepOn Genesis EST
Переглядів 16 тис.Місяць тому
For the first snowboard product review of the season I figured I should start with the all new @BurtonSnowboards StepOn Genesis EST. This is the first release of EST being offered in the StepOn line (They did do a limited edition run in the Mine 77 collection for Jake Burton back in 2019). I spent a good portion of my trip in Chile riding them so I felt comfortable giving this review. Reflex bi...

What a day! I was so excited to spend some time snowboarding with Mikkel Bang and Ben Ferguson and Gabe Langlois in Japan. The snow conditions could not have been better after receiving a solid 50cm of fresh powder at the resort in Hokkaido, Japan. We had plans to film for the upcoming @BurtonSnowboards movie this day but with prime conditions for doing laps we took advantage. Thanks to the cre...

Whistler Backcountry Jump FAIL. Why Finding New Jumps is Hard
Переглядів 10 тис.Рік тому
The Whistler Backcountry is seemingly endless in winter. When you're on top of a peak the mountains carry on as far as the eye can see yet for some reason we see the same jumps year after year in the new snowboard movies. The limitations of where we can get to might be one reason but there's also the fact that it takes a lot of things to line up for a proper jump to work. Mikey Ciccarelli - fel...

This Is A Powder GAMECHANGER. In Depth Review 3D Deep Daze - Burton Family Tree
Переглядів 12 тис.Рік тому
When a snowboard makes powder feel different then you know we’re on to something. A dramatic shift in boarding with this board from Burton snowboards. The Family Tree 3D Deep Daze is a huge step forward in powder riding engineering. 3D doesn’t stand for 3D printing like some may think. It’s the core of the snowboard that is now built completely different with the 3D channels being incorporated ...
Mark Breaks Down How To Film a Backcountry Snowboard Movie.
Переглядів 2,4 тис.Рік тому
We get asked a lot of questions about how we film our backcountry video parts. I wanted to take this opportunity to share some insights and behind the scenes of what goes in to each shot of my Full Part from the ARK snowboard movie. Wind, storms, avalanches, etc. Filming a snowboard movie deals with it all. Also a little perspective into our process when we're in the backcountry snowboarding. T...

You using dji or gopro?
How was I not subscribed?!
That was sick!
The chill master on the Gril Master!!
Which resort are you at here? I’m heading to Niseko for the first time in January. If this is what I have to look forward to, 😍😍😍😍
need a new board for this kinda riding, side hits, exploring trees and pow, and sending, any recs mark?
Such a great vid! :D
Love the vibe on this video. No attitude just good times all round.
Hi what is the name of those drifter snowshoes you guys are wearing
The FOMO is real!
My boot is still loose
Yo dude, where do you wear your GoPro? Head? Chest?
Hell yeah. Our opening day in WA had tons of snow, but rain at the bottom. Sticky cream cheese. So much coverage though.
What’s your stance width and binding angles on this bad boy?
Keep these videos coming!!! So sick!!!🔥🙌
Did you film most of this with the mouth mount?😮
Ya mouth mount is the way to go but you have to be careful if you fall
Great video! What camera did you use filming?
Shot it all on my DJI Action Camera
Love to see it.. meanwhile I am mind boarding 😶🌫️
As am I brother… as am I 😢
Mind boarding is still boarding! Haha
The stoke is unreal!
Hello, with what camera are you filming? :D
DJI Action Camera
@marksollors 4 or 5?😁
Damn, my only goal in snowboarding is to be able to do such flowy 360s off of what seemingly any little lip.
Here for it! Nice one boys! See you up there soon!
Can't wait!
oh man! GT's
HELLS YEAH 🤘
Kit Cousins
Yea Crew! Good Times!
Look sick, Mark! Can you start putting what you're riding in the description of each video? Would be awesome to see what you're picking for which conditions and when.
Board is definitely the grill master from Burton
@@dune4396165 to be exact. He says it in the video.
in the video he said 165 grill master
What’s your stance width and angles?
La Niña ⛄️
I’m jelly. I wish i was there!
Winter is back!
Thanks for the great review Mark. I'm thinking of swapping over from the Cartel EST to the same bindings you've reviewed. The Step On Genesis EST Currently I haven't tried any step ons, but this is about to change. I have also just watched this review: ua-cam.com/video/5vJ5C36hXBo/v-deo.html Where he suggests there's a problem with hitting the hammock when trying to step in. From your vid, obviously you have no issue with this. Have you ever had any problems with this. Has anyone else? Also how will these differ from the Cartels Thanks very much in advance
This is a great intro!
Loving the reviews, Mark! And the look of the Gril Master. Wanting to pick one up but struggling on sizing decisions. I'm 5'10" 143lbs and a 9.5US boot. An intermediate-advanced riding looking for this to mainly be a powder / freeride board thats not shy to running some party laps and side hit sessions later in the day. Do you think the 155cm would be good or too much board?
This is one of the best review videos ever! Thank you! Still struggling between the Hometown Hero and the Gril Master, but every time i watch this video i want to go with the Gril Master! 🙂
Having ridden EST bindings for several years, I personally prefer RELFEX now for an improvement in my riding feel and have been able to adapt to various riding conditions on any board. I have also transitioned to stepons, which have proven to be a game-changer. While I have experimented with other bindings like Genesis, my preference has always been for Malavitas. Malavitas are known for their exceptional responsiveness and stiffness, which are highly sought after by riders. However, it’s important to note that while Genesis offer comfort, they may not provide the same level of responsiveness. In conclusion, I have chosen not to use Genesis bindings due to their lack of durability and reliability. Additionally, I have observed that the web high backs on Genesis frames tend to deteriorate over time, rendering them less functional. Therefore, I prioritize durability and reliability in my binding selection. Stepon, reflex is what I prefer. 🤷♂️👊
If they had a satisfaction guarantee id consider it. They're too expensive to be a guinea with no recourse if you find they're not working to your liking.
Literally been waiting on these for over 10 years, can’t wait to rip em
Really cool thought on the base bushing in regard to different designs, re: the hinge, and canting. I worked at one of the Vail shops for three seasons, so I’ve know about step on since 2013. I love Burton design, just really great stuff
How would you describe the durability and longevity of these for someone who rides 200 days a year?
High back rotation? To get the highbacks aligned with the edges? This was the big advantage of "old" burton bindings above a lot of competitors. Seems that with the step on system it is not possible?
The bummer with EST is if you want to play with posi/posi you can only go to 25 degrees in the front and 15 degrees in the back. I thought the EST were heavier than my Re:flex Genesis bindings, too.
That was a problem for me too with EST.
The EST’s are 220g lighter than the ReFlex. I have and weighted both.
Had EST for a long time and let them go because the posi-posi angle stances are VERY limited. I don't know what the max posi angles are on these or new non step-ons but my Cartels were anything but "infinite".
If you remove the hammock do they become "normal" Step Ons?
The Channel system is underrated
What board are you on in the intro?
island snow gang represent
i agree man, i've been in the same sunset rides at that exact spot a couple of years ago... nothing beats that sunset... and if there's enough snow to get down to ''el montagnes'' in the little village, the ride in the dark is sweet!
Hey Mark! What boots are you wearing?
Mark Sollors, not only one of the best style and one-foot game in the game, judging by the way you talk about the technicality and the nuances of the product, I know you’re the real deal. Im glad my years of admiration didn’t go for nothing ! Bravo amigo mío !!! (ex R&D and product tester for various brands, currently a snowboarding nomad)

Move in the right direction. Saw guys last year having issues with the standard 4 bolt bindings on a channel mount Burton. Bolts wouldn't stay tight and he could only use two bolts. (at least this is what I recall). This makes me consider a new board/binding system this season...well....at least a Burton solution.
I have the mine77 est version from a few years back. They are okay. But i guess the new ones got better
