      I think I floated in between the two. At times I was more of a collector. At the moment (now that I sold most of it) I'm a gamer. It really was a strange thing. At some points, I'd go months of buying games and maybe playing one or two. Then I'd go 5 months and not buy anything and focus on playing them.

    That’s why I only collect system that I grew up with which is the ps2 and ps3 and Wii/ GameCube which is a small collection I have when I was a teen and Xbox 360 that’s really it for me. Newer systems I off and on with buying physical for if it’s on sale. I can’t see myself collecting everything of all game systems that I have no no attachment with.

      I bought most of my collection pre-covid/when prices started to go up. So I got the majority of it for cheaper than what you can get now. The main issue that happened was when I took a job that was a massive pay cut. We thought we could make it work. It in fact did not work. Then my daughter was born. That job ended up not working out, so we moved back to where we used to live. Issue is, the cost of living is just high and the job market sucks. I ended up taking on debt at the other job just to be able to provide necessities for my daughter. While I know I did what I had to do at the time, debt sucks.

      @ My wife works full time and so do I. No, she didn't pressure me to sell. Did I ask for her input? Yes, because that's what married people do. She told me that the choice was up to me. So after thinking through some things I made the choice to sell. I don't see what's so hard about that. Just because I'm married doesn't mean I can't make my own decisions. I did this to provide for my family over my own wants. It's part of being married/being a parent.

    This sucks, having to sell games to pay bills, which is just a mitigation thing as more bills will come is very sad. I'd hate to be forced to get rid of my collections. Having said that, there's a part of me who thinks that getting rid of most of my collection would be a be a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. It would be freeing not to be a slave to a pile of games and I wouldn't have to be worried about storage, disc rot and other things. I'm probably not going to get rid of my games though unless I'm in a very bad situation.

    • @Throggy
      @Throggy 17 днів тому

      You aren't lying. Selling my stuff helped me stay afloat, but I ended up getting a second job to make ends meet. After a month though, the only thing I've really missed is my Nintendo 64 collection. Everything else is sort of ehh to me. But as many have said in the comments, collecting sometimes comes and goes depending on the season of life. I'd love to get back into collecting in the future, but it would probably be very curated unless I was just rolling in piles of cash (which I doubt that happens).

    • @ericmackrodt9441
      @ericmackrodt9441 17 днів тому

      @Throggy yeah, I have 300 or so games, but I only get stuff that I either loved as a kid or really wanted to play and couldn't. While watching this video I just kept thinking one thing emulation. It's so much cheaper you just have to buy a cheap pc and you can play everything. I sold all my physical games and got a cheap pc installed the emulators and hooked it up to my tv, because I don't care about looking at the games on a shelf, I just actually want to play them. I have everything from nes to ps2 all on that one pc. You can do way more but that's just the stuff I like the most. It's awesome and it's not that hard to figure out how to do it. I know if my dumbass can figure it out anyone can. It just takes looking into it and learning how just like anything else. If you really like actually playing old games it's the way to go in my opinion.

    • @Throggy
      @Throggy 17 днів тому

      Lulz. I've gotten that recommendation about getting a mini PC and just loading it down with games. Right now I have OpenEMU on my Mac, and I like it so far. I think the interface for me is something I really enjoy. I only have like two NES games on it, but it's a start. I think if I ever get back into collecting, it'll be a small curated collection.

    Congrats. When the problems come and you have to face them, that's when we see if you're a man or just an adult teenager. Selling your stuff is never easy, but have a family and become a father was a choice that was made; like all of them, we'll have consequences. In trouble times, you, being a man and a provider, will do anything necessary. Best wishes for you and your family, bro. Hopefully this is just a temporary turmoil and you'll overcome it.

I think if you don't have kids, you can't really imagine what it's like to have to provide for them. It's sort of like a hypothetical situation. You can think/plan all you want, but until you're in the thick of it, you'll never know what it's really like.
