I'm just a country Lad from Northern Victoria in Southern Australia, son of a timber cutter & Mad Keen fish'o, Grandson of a pro fisherman and lover of the bush. I've taken what they have taught me about the Bush, it's streams and adapted it to my Passion, lure fishing for Murray Cod.
Mad About Livescope Part 3
Here is my last and final installment of mad about Live-scope, It's just a part of my fishing now so I'll get back to doing just that "FISHING"
------------
0:00 Intro
1:16 Family history on Murray Cod
5:45 Murray cod back at Torrumbarry
6:55 118 cm murray cod
8:25 113 cm murray cod
11:21 113 cm topwater murray cod
16:14 won't hit surface but loved a Cod Jig
19:10 Last metery for the season
------------
It's such an invaluable tool to find fish, although it won't make the fish bite it will keep you closer to fish when they are in the mood, livescope is also great for testing out new ideas, fishing tackle & exploring new fishing locations.
I hope you enjoy watching this last installment of Mad about live-scope, please leave a comment, Like and subscribe - But only if you want too :)

Well done mate! Is that a GoPro Hero 2 I spy near the start?
Cheers Jordy & Yes that's a GoPro hero 2, we have all the latest in tech, did you see the fish finder up front :)
On ya legends...💪💪 Only bird your allowed to handle on the river Rod...
Nice work legends
Cheers 🙂
Good on ya fellas 👍🏻
Thanks Mate 👍
Hey Ray, any chance you could run through the settings you like to use on the livescope that gives you the best clarity for imaging?
Did you know they desnagged the murray river for the paddle steamers turning it into a drain for cargo devastating the murray cod forever? They never got back giant red gums fallen from the bank over hundreds of years.
Yes l did know that, they thought the water could be delivered faster, but it didn't work so well because fish were a food source at the time.
thats quite disgusting how you tried to foul hook that cod
😆 what would you do with a split second decision ??
@@rayjclifford not to fool hook australias most beautiful fish
@charlielane-s4k Sorry Karen, you know parks Vic and the murray goulburn water authority slaughter million of "australias most beautiful fish" with there environmental floods and I haven't seen you or many of the other Cod caring UA-camrs make a sound? so get on your high horse somewhere else 🥱
@@rayjclifford mate i like watching your videos i didnt mean to affend you that badly calm down☹
Good video Ray just wondering for fishing in the darlin river after the kills do u think it would be ok if you would possibly know that
I've never fished in the Darling Joanne, and I'm not sure how it's fishing now sorry.
😂😂😂 awesome lads 👌
Cheers mate 👍
Cost ya a beer every time you fall for that in my boat 😂
I'd be broke for every time it's happened to me.
That rod tap 😂
Gorgeous fish
Good on ya lads. It's good to see other old farts getting after it 👍🏻
Maaate, Talk about mind blowing with the top water blow ups, awesome to see 🎣🍻
Well done Ray, that’s some epic catch’s and beautiful fish too mate 🎣🍻
Awesomeness watch mate, had a good laugh and pleasing to see the old school ways are still being shown just how I like it 🎣🍻
Cheers Evan, trolling lures was the only way we could get one this season opening. Still very effective 🙂
Honestly,,all these negative people commenting would use livescope if they were given it or could afford it,,and no i dont have livescope ,but i understand that this is just another stage of technology advances and one day livescope will be looked at like a common sounder
You wouldn't believe how many people who used to knock scope now message me about getting it for themselves 🙂
Hi Ray Loving the live scope videos. you make very entertaining vids by yourself go going. My wife & I met up with you on the river one time ( 2 years ago) when we were camping in the same spot. At the time I had no idea who you were but seeing the set up on your boat knew you were not the usual fisho we meet. You were very open with advise on catching cod, and just a nice guy to camp next to. Here's hoping we can bump into each other again sometime. until then will just keep enjoying your posts. D&C
Cheers for the kind words 🙂 I can't say I remember camping near you sorry, but l like talking about fishing and have a habit of sharing what l know 🙂
Nice Ray, I hope we can catch up for a beer and fire one day
Yes maybe 🍺
You gotta love it Ray. That’s insane, can't understand why people criticise the live.
I can George, they think every cast is a fish but in reality only every 3rd cast = a fish 😃
Maybe its time people stopped using scopes...just my thoughts.
Yeah cos scope is why they are surface lure shy, even though only .5% of scopers throw surface at them first 😉
@rayjclifford calm down Ray, the difference between you and me is I can't see whether a cod is going to take my lure and that's the way I like it and I don't end up getting crancky like you do.
Who says I'm cranky 😤 ... but seriously, I've done my fair share of blind casting, trolled many many miles without a hit, and soaked 5 flavours of bait without a sniff, I know how Murray cod fishing works and I'm pretty happy running my own race 🙂
@rayjclifford Fair comment and my apologies and I'm not being a smart arse, it's just from my experience that I notice that people are expecting a result every time they go fishing and forgetting that it's up to the fish if they are hungry and ready to eat no matter what lures we are using.
They eat Ray- eventually
It's true Mick, they all have to eat eventually.
As per usual mate its there way or not at all 👍👍🍺
Every time Leigh
Hi love your videos. Can I ask do you secent your lures
I have many times in the past, especially when trolling lures, but now with scope l can see most fish hone in on the splash and either follow or hit the lure from there.
Look I think livescope is a very good tool to see the fish and how they react to curtain lures which is very interesting but at the same time it doesn't garrentee the fish will bite and I think it's a very handy good tool
It's is a very handy tool Josh, it definitely let's you know what you should be doing on the day.
@rayjclifford yes I've used it once and I'd curtainly get one but I think for competitions I think they should be banned because it's an unfair advantage and you should use the knowledge you've gained from it and apply it to your fishing
@@joshuamcdonald8716 scope it is definitely an unfair advantage Josh, they should run comps with different category's for scope and none scope anglers.
What about the National Channel into the Gunbower creek .
what would you like to know
Is that the back of Drachintoshes cafe there . They used to have some massive cod in the window back in the day
Yes that was the back of dracs fish n chips in Echuca.
I met your grandfather on the Billabong in about 1980, my dad and grandfather new him well.
Cheers Paul, I do remember the surname, He spent a lot of time up the bong, those fish hanging off the back of the truck on the cover photo came out of the Billabong in about 1978 I believe.
You’re a good bloke, pity there’s not many of us left 😂 🤙🏻🎣
Very hard to find 😆
Keep up the great work mate 🤙🤙
Cheers Mate:)
Don’t listen to the scope haters please mate - you’re one of a few old school fisherman who have adapted with the new tech instead of whinging about it; which in my books proves what a great fisho you are 👍
Cheers Mate :)
Great vid ray keep learning and smashing them cod with the new thing we call technology 🎣
Technology ISN'T IT WONDERFUL ! for THOSE OF YOU,WHO HAVEN'T A fuckin clue.
Thanks for the support mate, the learning never ends!
Don’t listen to the nonsense Ray. You are a famous cod angler pre and post scope. This stuff has been in your family for generations and you are just getting with the times. Everyone that’s sooking about the scope is just jealous they can’t afford one. Cod are my favourite fish to fish for and I’ve caught a lot but never on the scope. If I had the means I’d get one in a heartbeat! I think it would be really cool to fact check there behaviour like you are. Love the videos mate.
Thanks Mate, appreciate the support 👍

Cheers Mate, watching their behavior is pretty cool, before scope the old boys had theory's, most true when it comes to river fish but not all. It is the greatest learning tool you can bolt in the boat.
Ur 1 of a few murray cod fishers ive followed for the best part of 10 years Ray, mate so good 2 c u back wit another quality u tube vid, thanks and best of luck for next season.

Hahah mate the hrs you wouldn’t have spent on the water trying to figure these big girls out most of these bed wetters wouldn’t even think about it! 😂 keep at em mate go hard 🎣
I've spent some time on these fish Bryan and only worked out about 5% of what they are all about, I really should have spent my time and money on something else 😄
The bed wetter, have you suffered from Enuresis since childhood, or just when you dream of one day going fishing.
@@darrylmackie9184 always a wet dream thinking about fishing mate 💦
@@bryanbarnett5190 I definitely do about fishing
Mate, I've been living on the Murray for most of my 55 years, and I chased mulloway on beaches close to home and SA's far west coast for the majority of that time; sure, I fished the Murray here and there, and I've landed some decent fish from the bank, but I wasn't locked into chasing Cod. In the last few years, sitting in the pub listening to the old fellas talk about the old days when Cod were plentiful was similar to your story about your Grandpa. I decided to see what my backyard had to offer after the flood, and yep, I've caught a few decent cod up to 95cm in my mate's boats but no metery. I just purchased a decent rig to fish the river, and I've got the bug. I see the boys that are old-school Murray fishos my age now all using live scopes. I am unsure why? I can buy one tomorrow, but I haven't earned my stripes yet apparently, haha. You clearly have a family history on the river. I'm interested in your thoughts on whether everyone had a scope and how it would impact the fishery. I have a teenager that knows jack shit about fishing that knew more about my new Humminbird Solix unit in 5 min than I did in 30 hours. I'd say the same applies to FFS when I purchase one. It's a divisive issue around the globe; hats off to you for putting together YT videos, but it also invites opinions about the sustainability of the fishery being impacted by FFS. Interested in your view.
Hey Louis, Have you heard the saying 10% of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish? the same will apply with FFS, some will find it easy for a minute then the fish will get switched on and 10% will continue to catch 90% of the fish again. Long story short Pro fishing like my grandfather was doing wasn't sustainable at the time, now we have fish stocking in Victoria and NSW it probably is, the currant fisheries and forestry management have kill millions more fish in the last 15 years than all the rec fisho's put together ever will and their only answer is we will just restock the river again when it happens next.
@@rayjclifford Thank you for the reply. I think what you do is fantastic. I appreciate your time and effort in making YT videos and sharing your experiences with people like me. Maybe one day I'll catch you on the river, and you'll have some time for a beer and a chat. Good luck and tight lines 🎣
@@IFish118 No worries at all Louis, I like making Vids and sharing what I believe to be true, I also like beer and talking fishing around the fire while having a few :)
Ray always look forward to your vids. This scope thing is not for everyone as the comments say. But they forget about the last 5 plus years of vids you have done smashing good cod before scoping started which have turned me into someone who loves to chase them aswell. But they also fail to understand your Granfathers history on the Murray with the commercial fishing side of things. His knowledge past down to you beats any kind of technology around now.Keep it up mate maybe one day we’ll have a beer together 👍👍🍺🍺
Good on ya Leigh, for a couple of years I spent most weekends and school holidays with my grandfather spotlighting and fishing, some of the best times in my life. I wish l could run a few question by him now and even show him the scope, but i'm sure he'd say what a waste of money though 🙂 I like beer too mate 🍺
😂more than likely mate 👍
Whilst I respect your past captures pre scope, targeting them in this manner is just rubbish.
Did you see the section about "birds in cages think flying is a diseases" ?? you should take a look outside the safety of your cage 🤗

Cracker vid mate, thanks for sharing.
Hey mate I was just wondering if it is better to go up stream or down stream with the live scope
That's a good question Diesel, A good guide will know where to fish from day to day, What they are biting on ect.......... the only thing I know is get yourself in front of any river rise, set your drag and hold on. It doesn't matter what to barometer, wind direction or weather is doing, get yourself in front of a river rise (fresh) If you have native fish in that location you will catch fish 😎
@ thanks mate
Remember what you said you do you and I'll do me. Keep it up Ray. Each to their own. The ones that bag are the ones with their heads in the sand.
That's one way to look at it - Cheers George 😎
Nice one Ray. Do you reckon you are still throwing as much surface as you were few years back? Or do you think you are more of a chance on the sub combined with scope vision?
I"ve run a surface lure over almost every Cod under 3 meters deep since having a Garmin Mick, for 3 hook-ups and half a dozen followers, But we have to remember there isn't a lot of fish below the Barmah forest in the Murray, I'm starting to think I caught about 50% of the Cod I seen this season which would be about 20 Cod, It all looks good on youtube but the struggle is very real below Barmah National Park 😑
@@rayjclifford Yeah, that black water shite is no good
My guess is you’ve forgotten more about codfish than most of those commenters, they’ve clearly not seen any of your vids before the live. I am torn though, I like the purity of snag bashing but I get using the live but each to their own.
Short Memory's Peppi 😉Honestly If we never had five man made hypoxic blackwater events in the last 13 years here at home I would probably be laughing at the live scopers myself, but sadly the Murray below Barmah ain't what she used to be and every little advantage helps.
@ yeah I reckon that would convert any man, I want to give it a crack up here in the Condamine, we only have a really small population but I know there’s big girls here, I’ve found a few but I just want to know for certain. Plus the knowledge you gain from how they act would be priceless.
@@peppipoohductionswakashunt3157 Mate the amount of closet scopers looking for info on how to set it up and where to buy is telling me it's only a matter of time before everyone has it, you know the saying "10% of the fisho's catch 90% of the fish?" when we edicate all the fish the 10% like us will still be catching 🙂
@ haha that doesn’t surprise me at all, I’d say the only thing hold a few back is the dollars. Your spot on there, that’s what makes the lure making fun for me, live is going to change lure fishing I reckon, good or bad we’ll learn a lot.
@@peppipoohductionswakashunt3157 true mate, I don't see it being good for fishing but it's good for lure maker's with all the people wanting to get into fishing now it's easier 😀
