My Favorite Multi Pens: The Lamy 2000 Multi Pen (4-Color Ballpoint) and the Jetstream 4&1
Переглядів 1,6 тис.Місяць тому
Who loves multi pens? This guy. I travel a ton for work (both jobs), and often find myself working in cramped quarters, whether that's an airplane seat, coffee shop, or hotel/airport lounge. When I don't have the space to spread out and keep track of multiple tools, I reach for a multi pen, and it's typically one of the two discussed in this video: the Lamy 2000 Multi Pen (officially known as t...
Kaweco Sport Piston Filler: Vintage vs. Modern

I also compare the current version of the Kaweco Piston to a vintage Kaweco Piston filler from my personal collection. If you'd like to learn more about this pen, and where I found it on Et...

I definitely look forward to playing along next year, though I hope Diamine doesn't double down on the scented inks! They're just not my jam, plus these inks tend to fe...

    With respect. that red band has actually damaged the shape your A5 notebook. Apparently, they cannot take simple measurements, keeping the contents of your notebook secure without damage to the outline of the notebook itself...my A5 notebook covers are hand made for me to my specification and the man who makes them for me is a true professional and a gentleman. I honestly think you deserve much better!!

    This new Kaweco fountain pen with piston mechanism is a charming and coherent continuation of the Sport series. The design is an absolute success, but it has one flaw that surprises me. The dimensions of the new Kaweco are identical to those of the regular Sport model, with one exception: the section goes deeper into the cap. On the regular Sport model, it measures 3.7 cm, while on the Sport Piston, it measures 4.3 cm. For this reason, the fountain pen is 6 mm shorter. This inexplicable fact reduces writing comfort, giving the strange impression that something is wrong. That's very unfortunate...

      I had one of those, great pen except that the refill holder is friction fit, it loosens over time and eventually it will pop out as you write. If it was a screw fit like the Lamy it would be a great pen.

      @TheGentlemanStationer 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for watching! I would probably expect the price to come down at some point, presumably once they can translate the piston mechanism to a resin body. That said, I don't see a scenario in which this pen could cost less than $130. (The standard AL Sport is at $90 already in the US, last I checked.) I'll note that the Art Sport started at around $160 when first released and is now at $120 or so.

    I’ve been pining for a piston-filling modern Sport for years. But now that it has belatedly arrived, I’m not overly impressed. The matte finish doesn’t look great to me. I’d have preferred a traditional piston turning knob instead of the blind cap design concealing a captive converter style filler. I don’t like Kaweco’s clips. My favorite Kaweco nibs are the B and BB. The M is the most reliable and safest to buy. And most importantly, Kaweco’s new pricing strategy seems quite out of whack to me. This new pen seems unfairly overpriced for what it offers. I felt even worse about the ridiculously overpriced ebonite Sport that I badly wanted. Need I even say the outrageous sticker price for the Sterling Sport that I still yearn to own someday? Good review! I’d take that vintage piston Sport over the new one, every day of the year. I do own a vintage Dia2. And the modern one. The Dia is the best pen Kaweco ever made.

    • @TheGentlemanStationer
      @TheGentlemanStationer 2 місяці тому

      Yes and No. If by "Felt Tip", you mean a fiber-tip pen as opposed to any sort of ballpoint or rollerball attachment, then yes it only has those points. That said, there are eleven possible different tips you can use with this pen. You can use Micron-style tips ranging from .1mm to 1.0mm in size, a classic felt tip (like an old Flair pen), a brush pen tip, or a chisel tip. There are also harder "writing" tips that feel more like a fineliner pen.

There are definitely some candidates for full bottle purchases. It never winds up being the ones I think though. From 2021 my main favorites are Seize the Night and Storm, which I certainly didn't predict. I mean, Garland is RIGHT THERE. Last year, I love a few of them but haven't run out of the small bottles yet, so there we go. This year? You don't consider Roter Faden a system, because they don't sell proprietary inserts? Have you even looked at their shop? If the Taschenbegleiter isn't a system, I don't know what is. There's a wide varity of calendar, notebook, planner and sketchbook booklets, in three formats, designed as inserts for the Taschenbegleiter. Strange that you would make a whole video on a product you didn't even look into.

    • @TheGentlemanStationer
      @TheGentlemanStationer 6 місяців тому

      Actually, we carry the full line of Taschenbegleiter inserts and notebooks in our shop. You certainly can use Roterfaden as a "system," but for purposes of my discussion, what I meant was that if you buy a Taschenbegleiter, you're not locked into their "system" and can use what you like as long as it's generally A4/A5/A6 sized. Apologies for any confusion.

    There is no hack at all. Those refills are all standard Parker G2 style refills made by different suppliers. In most older (I mean 20yrs old etc) pens, you probably need to loosen cap by reversing one or two turns to retract the tips into the body. Otherwise, they work most of the time.

    • @TheGentlemanStationer
      @TheGentlemanStationer 8 місяців тому

      Even on the modern Caran d'Ache 849, you still need to loosen the knock by a turn or two to get the tip to retract. This may vary depending on the refill (I've found that not all G2s are identical). While it's not a true "hack", I've had several people contact me saying that it "doesn't work" because the tip extends past the opening when the refill is retracted. I play it safe and call it a hack if an adjustment is usually required...

    Always an interesting system, but it isn't very elegant. Those thick covers also make it seem quite bulky. In this day when people love to chunk-up their binders it seems like a bulky one like this is limiting. I'm curious. May need to see it in person.

    • @TheGentlemanStationer
      @TheGentlemanStationer 9 місяців тому

      I'm not sure it's intended to necessarily be "elegant," (depending on how you use that term), but it's definitely a durable, easy to use way to keep multiple notebooks together and swap them out frequently, as I do.

    • @jcastano
      @jcastano 9 місяців тому

      @@TheGentlemanStationer The system is elegant. The entire of idea of using the clips is quite brilliant, but the materials are rough/industrial/utilitarian. It's not elegant in the aesthetic sense.

      I’ve been using Roterfaden system for a while now and use both A5 and A6 that I travel with. I have to tell you I do find them absolutely beautiful and a pleasure to use. The A5 SO_22 in smoke blue and honey interior is gorgeous. people always ask where I got it from. You have to see it in person to appreciate its quality. The A6 in black leather is well made but more utilitarian, which is fine with me. Quality stuff.

    • @mescellaneous
      @mescellaneous 2 місяці тому

      this is my conclusion as well. all this material definitely is more for the purpose of material looks. seen comments about how the clips get in the way. overall with all these notebook covers that promote grouping multiple notebooks, it seems more likely to take out the notebooks to use them, than to use it as one connected tome. and i feel the clips will be annoying over the long haul, having to individually remove both clips compared to just a string where you just pull the book out. but it certainly looks cool at first glance.
