Our waterways are connected not only to each other but to the neighborhoods and streets we traverse each day. This means that the trash we see in our streets or on sidewalks can easily find its way into our storm drains which move into our creeks, into our rivers and out into the ocean. Join me as I share with you my adventures in trash discovery and removal. You just never know what we will find!

Great idea to have a guest host down by the river. It reminds me of my own litter picking along the Susquehanna River.
Where is that river? I don’t think I have ever heard of it. How bad is the trash level you deal with? Thanks for turning in. 😊
The Susquehanna River is in central Pennsylvania and is a major tributary of the Chesapeake Bay. The main litter problems are plastic bottles and styrofoam. I have found all kinds of things that were dumped at a public boat launch. Everything from construction debris to tires to old lawn furniture. If I ever make it to the West Coast I would like to help on a cleanup there.
@@brianaucuba230 I Googled your river. Looks like a great river with the same modern issues most populated areas have. I find the exact same trash here. If you make it out West hit me up. I am only an every other weekend warrior. Ha!!! Due to having a job and paying bills plus general chores. 😁

@@412N3L I would guess 20 to 30 minutes. It depends on if you are checking out the scenery or just hustling straight through.
All you need is a drone going forward and you're gonna have all the angles covered to see how to get in there!
@@travissimms544 I have a drone. It is a Phantom 4 and I broke it. Ha! My problem is: I am trash first and video second. Having a lot of fancy gadgets is very time consuming. However, I agree with you.

@@nickbakker9683 Nope, at least not in my area. The storm drain system is a completely outdated system and totally needs to be addressed. What kind of SD system is in your area?
@@TakingtheTRASHOUTwithAaron im from the Netherlands and the water from the streets goes directly to the sewer system. This year i went to London. You wont believe how much trash you will find on the streets there. Everybody just throws it on the streets.
@@TakingtheTRASHOUTwithAaron the municipality/county/state is supposed to maintain and inspect them at least once during their 3 year permitting cycle for MS4. None of them do a good job. Every one I have been to is clearly not maintained in 3 years. I have been to some where the gates were left open and there were trees older than 3 years preventing them from closing. it's a dirty little secret.

@@sarahbrewer8945 Thank you Sarah! This trash has been sitting there for probably 7 months. The next big rain all this rubbish will continue its journey downstream and eventually landing in the ocean. Unless I can figure out a way to remove it before the next rains. Rinse and repeat! Ha!!

@@travissimms544 Travis, the area on the Laguna I was able to get access to was just South of the SR creek confluence, maybe 500 yards or so. I wish I had more time to explore the area. There is a lot of space to cover.

@@TakingtheTRASHOUTwithAaron We recycle a lot, but the big problem is the trash that ends up in the rivers and consequently into the sea, unfortunately there are many uneducated people who discard it anywhere.
@@alexpaiva5124 That sounds like here! Ha!! It really comes down to education and understanding. In my immediate area the Storm Drains are a big problem, they flush the street trash straight into the environment. Of course there are more issues than just the SD system, but that is a big one.

@@beet6470 I carry a knife at all times. Usually just to cut rope or anything else that needs to be cut away. I think part of the allure of trash hunting is you can literally find anything. I bet that whole body of water and high water mark is covered in plastics. I was only able to access a small portion. @@razisamimi9287 Yes, the waters edge was a bit deep and very swampy. That area was hard to move around in. I imagine there is a lot of trash to find in the water and the high water mark. Hopefully I can start mapping it out and do more cleanups in that area. Probably need to take a Machete and carve out a couple trails or something. Chainsaw!!

@@SallyBytheSeashore-cs1zj it’s a mixed bag for sure. The big litterers I deal with the most are: garbage day, people in cars tossing their fast food. Hundreds/Thousands of miles of curb and gutter dumping straight into the environment is a huge issue, especially during the first big flush of the rainy season. It is an endless cycle really.
Also the wind plays a big role in spreading plastic pollution. A lot of today’s plastic wrappers are lighter than leaves.🍁

Fortunately there are a lot of people doing similar cleanups across the planet, but we are definitely outnumbered by the volume of trash and pollution inhabiting the earth. I sympathize with you man. I litter pick at a local boat launch. I have found everything from the remnants of a butchered chicken to construction debris to a massive dump someone took in the middle of the parking lot. (Even though there are portable toilets on site.)
@@brianaucuba230 There is so much gross crap out there to find. Human turds are gross but kinda humorous at the same time. 😆 One time I thought I found a thick piece of rope, it turned out to be a long S shaped human turd with a light dusting of mold on it, my picker cut through it then I was going to pick it up before I realized it was a turd. 💩 Luckily I had a good pair of gloves on.
