    What is this talk about an 'eco system ' strategy all about? What does this means and how is it applicable to the customer? I use to go to the warehouse all the time. I don't bother unless I really want something specific. Same with Briscos and Kmart.

    Sir Stephen Tindall is an iconic figure in NZ business and philanthropy, so too Glen Inger. Many individual careers, successes and livelihoods have been aquired on the back of this great company, and it seems anything but fair that the company is even in this position. Poor sales and out of control labour costs can no longer support their current footprint. Time, energy, resource and an unimaginable amount of money is needed to even stand a chance. Calculated risk is not what the company can afford right now. Hopefully common sense, pride and politics don't get in the way of company executives and shareholders decision making, otherwise they will continue writing red ink until such time they will be left with no option.

    Homewares and apparel isn't a strategy. Will the Warehouse focus on price, availability, bricks and mortar or online, how will they differentiate from other retailers? They need major reinvestment and refurbishment, there was no talk about rebrand, selling stores, refurbishment. Also to decide who they are. If they think they are Farmers, KMart, Briscoes or Coundtown they will not survive. The Warehouse need their own strategy. In the past there was a reason to go in to the Warehouse- price, availability, good range. Now they sell $40 screen covers you can get on Temu for $2.50 including delivery. Joan didn't provide any answers, just management speak. On the basis of this interview, if I had Warehouse shares, I'd sell them.

    They need to take a good hard look at the point of their existence. Sure, they have a business but they must compete with proper stores selling name brands not cheap chinese knock off. Their business model seems lazy at best. Gone are the days where you could buy anything when Stephen Tindall was running it, it was both cheap and had everything (with money back guarantee). It seems it's just run by accountants thesedays ( mindless). They should have failed decades ago like DEKA.

    You are dreaming Joan. The reason why the Warehouse is failing is because of variety, cost and shipping. Look at Temu they cover all of that. How are you going to compete with that when you're products come from the same country that Temu is operating in? Temu is beating you at your own game and clearly it is only going to get worse. All of my friends now shop at Temu and no longer at the Warehouse why? Because Temu has better variety, cost and cheaper distribution! Unless you are going to sell locally manufactured goods or prepared to setup shop in China then I'm afraid the Warehouse is doomed! Your core business strategy was to buy in Bulk from China and sell here in NZ. Well that's not going to happen anymore now is it?!!! Read the writing on the wall.

    The only way The Warehouse comes back is if it throws crazy money onto the table which then gets spent modernizing the brand from the ground up. The stores feel old now. The staff look worn out and unmotivated. The layout has at this point an almost 80's retro vibe to it. The products and so on feel dated. They need to modernize literally everything so that they look and feel like a modern,fresh, exciting store. And if they can't or won't do that then the end is already written. And I hate self serve checkouts... it destroys customer service which in turn kills a shop.

    Another great Maddison interview 👏🏼 🏆 🎉. I think TW at one point seriously derailed from their traditional market as they tried to present themselves a bit like a Farmers. I think they have realised this was a big mistake. I believe the long term future for the company is to move away from the hot mess of their jumbled offerings and go back to the basics of homeware, textiles and perishables. In an age of boundless online offerings which will only deepen as other countries like India join China in flooding markets i dont know how the brick and mortar WH store models will fare long term. The next few years for TWG will be very interesting indeed.

  • @Paulkjoss
    @Paulkjoss 5 днів тому

    As simply a Warehouse customer for some time - I still remember buying a roll of seconds carpet from the Auckland red shed eons so - the shop seems to have drifted away from what made it great - which was reasonable random stuff at a reasonable price. At one point it was like TWH was trying to be a Farmers…?? Around that time I recall one lunch break at the office where everyone bemoaning how TWH wasn’t what it used to be. Now there are ‘Coin Save’ type shops everywhere which used to be what TWH was all about, and they seemed to have good quality stuff. In recent years it feels like the organisation was drifting without purpose. The Market was a good concept - I thought - but the branding was unfortunate as no one seemed to understood it was TWH. I used it - it was like a NZ Amazon - and I felt that it was starting to become a bit more known - and then one day it was just - gone - 4:38 lol 😂 Edit: Some here suggesting a branding change - thats such a C Suite lightbulb idea that puts a few more nails in… At this point, the red colour and the ‘Where Everyone Gets A Bargain’ tagline are part of NZ lexicon - why change it and push yourselves even further away? People don’t hate the place and want to stay away because of the branding. In general, we like to go there, its just that the shelves don’t have the good stuff on them as much anymore. Another great video MWM 👍🏽
