Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
In this video I discuss cutting a fretwork pattern by Russ Beard on 1/4" figured walnut using #2/0 spiral blades. I typically prefer flat blades for everything, fretwork included, but this type of pattern works well with spiral blades.

Intarsia project designed by Kathy Wise and cut/finished by me. Featured in issue 70 of Scroll Saw Woodworking and Crafts Magazine, this Ducklings pattern is made with Yellow Heart, American and Peruvian Walnut, Cedar, and Ebony. Approximately 50 pieces and 10 hours were required. Finished in Clear Satin Lacquer, this piece was a simple Intarsia project that I recommend for anyone of any skill ...
Memorials and Lettering on the Scroll Saw
Переглядів 9 тис.4 роки тому
This video discusses a memorial piece made for the family of a friend who passed away. A fretwork logo and combination of inside and outside lettering are used to memorialize the subject. I used a #1 skip tooth reverse blade, maple, walnut, paduak and mahogany to complete the piece. Blue Mixol tint creates a rich blue backer for the logo and shellac provides some protection and a glossy finish.
Segmentation on a $40 scroll saw

Great looking project!!
I am interested in what brand scroll saw you use and what types of blades is best for intarsia. I tried making the deer head one year but it looked terrible.
I use a Jet 22" scroll saw and usually use #3 or #5 pegas MGT, olsen PGT, or flying dutchman ultra skip reverse blades. Intarsia is hard with both the cutting accuracy and shaping details needed but it just takes practice.
Excellent vid Bud. I picked me up a used Hegner and was wondering what blade tyou recommend cutting some curves in 3/4-inch thick quartersawn white oak? Would need a smooth finish! Thanks and Happy Holidays! JB
I would usually use a #3 or #5 in one of the pegas MGT, olson PGT, or flying dutchman ultra skip reverse. Good luck!
Thank you for this helpful information.
Thank you for your video. It was quite helpful and informative. It was nice to find out about the HT tools as well and seeing your own work in the background, proves your option ideas are definitely worthwhile.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👻
Graet Video Sir! Do you have any videos on making the downdraught table
well... dremell tools are really bad the quality and spec. are comparable to any discount/budget brand. get yourself a Proxxon ;)
Sorry, how did you assemble it to get the 3D effect?
The piece is cut at an angle so they wedge into place when you push the outer edges back.
Very helpful video. Thanks so much!
This video did help a lot for this beginner... thanks!
Great video. Very helpful and easy to follow. Thanks for sharing.
Will they all cut bridge girders and freight train line rails?
Great project. Where can we get the pattern from?
Have you tried using one of those inflatable drum sanders? You can get one for the drill press fairly inexpensively. I enjoyed seeing your techniques for the other sanders. Thanks for the informative video.
Good job cutting but not a good job showing what happened after you took the pattern off the wood. I would have liked to see you put the tree together and show all the sides.
Wait. How did you put it together? From someone who doesn’t really understand what just happened, I missed the reveal. I watched this video because I was intrigued by the finished product.
Thanks for sharing this project, I do free hand castles and pyramid's, so would like to add this to my collectio, You did mention the persons name who put the pattern on his site, being partialy deaf didnt catch it, so who was that person please, and where can one get a copy of the pattern please
Loved the tree where could I get the pattern?
what you use to lubricate your spiral blades and how many blades did you use-break for this project?
I don't use anything specific for blade lubrication but I do change the blades pretty frequently. I can't recall exactly how many I used on this project but I imagine it could have been 5-10.
@@ScrollSawCorner ty very much
Hi, I'm Jim from Wisconsin. I'm a newbie scroll sawer and enjoyed your video of the angle cut pine tree. I would like to cut one out myself. Can you tell me where I can find the pattern?
Where can one get a copy of the template? Thanks!
very informative, and a couple of your suggestions I hadn`t even considerd but I will now. My problem is I only have a smallish shed (10ft L x 8ft w) so I`m getting more & more limited in what I can add otherwise I`ll be climbing over tools . Plus,I have two cats that live in there also ,and They keep complaining about the space in there diminishing all the time .LoL
There are always more tools to consider! I find myself reducing the selection as I get further into my craft.
Hiya, so the first cut (the outside cut) is at 90° then all the rest a 3°, am I correct?,thank you.
That is the way I did it!
Nice work
Hi & I`m finding your Video very informative.,can you tell me what would you suggest for "2 x 2" x 4" length Pine , cutting out Compound Christmas decorations in say Olsen pinless blades?
I'd try a number 5 pgt or skip tooth reverse in the olson first. 2x2 is pretty thick for a scroll saw so clearing the dust is going to be important. Take it slow and back off from your cuts frequently to give the blade time to move the dust out. Good luck!
@@ScrollSawCorner OK Thanks for the quick reply , Yes, I`ll try those. He who dares Wins 👍🏻👍🏻
What saw do you use.
I use a 21" jet saw
Sorry. I missed the angle of the saw blade?
About 3 degrees
You going to have a long live, there are a lot of ppl like so happy to find an very instructional video like this, it was beyond what I was looking for…
Scroll saw vs Cnc machine? I find a lot of creators over investing in Cnc machines when they could do the same with a big fraction of the money.
Very informative, I also have just gone into Intarsia, I have been scrolling for some six years now, and think I have the skill leval to move up to this next level. I intend to use Pine & paint, then I intend to start using different coloured woods. Thank you for the video, very much appreciated. Roy in Australia.
That's really cute!
I really loved your video, a suggestion would be a good over head shot so we can see how your are cutting the pattern. A GoPro will fit the bill nicely. Overall great pacing and was really enjoyable to watch.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing. I would like to attempt this as my first project, where can I find that pattern?
Thanks for your advise 🙏
Is there a link to the deer pattern
It's a Judy Gale Roberts pattern and can be found on her site intarsia.com
Very good job and well explained. Why don't you make a video explaining how the pieces are sanded to give them a rounded shape? a greeting.
Is your scroll saw tilted so the bed is angled from front to back with the front being lower than the rear of the bed? Sorry for the long run on sentence. 😂
Yes it is, I have the back raised about 3 or 4 inches. I think I measured it at 8 degrees
@@ScrollSawCorner do you find its helpful to see the work piece better? What’s the thought process here? Thx again!
@BillKillillay I think it helps with neck strain from not having to look over the table quite as much. Thanks for watching!
@@ScrollSawCorner thank you! I think I am going to follow suit and give it a try. Appreciate you!
Where did you get your pattern with the base??
Great work really like the look is the pattern available anywhere I really enjoy scroll sawing but I’m terrible at creating patterns Thanks for sharing
Good afternoon... where can I buy this type of blade... I'm thinking of buying a scroll saw ryobi srw 1240g what do you think about this model... I haven't bought any scroll saw yet
Blades come from a variety of places depending on where you live. I buy some online and some at local woodcraft stores. I think the ryobi models are OK for new users but they have more vibration and less features than higher end ones. Enjoy!
thanks for the help... here in Portugal it's not easy to get certain brands of scroll saw
so the tree is hallow on the backside, everything is pushed forward right? you did not show that part?
This is correct, it is pushed forward from the center and it locks into place that way.
Very nice idea. could i get a working drawing of this?
Excellent teaching skills. Thank you.
Great video
As a beginner, it feels like you missed some steps. How did you assemble it for instance?
Hi Chuck, the tree is cut with a bevel so the pieces slide forward and lock into place. There is not really much to the assembly. I didn't use any glue or anything, just pop into place.
@@ScrollSawCorner It would’ve been helpful to see how it went together. I’m just starting out and could’ve used to the guidance
@@ChuckFarlieSeesAll Same here. Weird that assembly wasn't included in the video. Makes me think it may not be as straight forward as it seems. Especially if it's so easy. Show how easy it is.
Excellent video. Thank you for sharing. Do you sell the patterns for the projects you have on your wall???
