5 Tips for Buying on Copart!
Переглядів 16 тис.3 роки тому
Welcome to Monument Auto! Today I go over some things I learned and things you should avoid when buying a car from Copart salvage auction. No dealer license or broker required! If you'd like a more detailed breakdown of how to use Copart, let me know! Stay tuned for the next video where I go over exactly how much I spent buying, shipping, and fixing, my 503 horsepower ML63 AMG!
So, you buy a clapped out ML63 for dirt cheap and then it costs 5-6k to fix and you complain? What were you expecting? That's still dirt cheap for all the work you got done.
Oh yeah I was still overall happy with the car - 15k isn’t too bad but with that money I also could’ve bought one in decent condition for same price without all the labor involved haha but definitely a good experience
@@monumentauto no car for $15-20k will give you this much for your money. There is a saying, "Cheap or Expensive will always end up becoming Expensive."
Thank you for the video, it is very helpful, please have you changed the coolant temperature sensor, i want to change it but i dont find it
I’m sorry I have not changed the coolant temp sensor
Hi , nice Vid. Any chsnce you hsvr have the linkd where to purchase the trims? Thx!
Sorry no links but the part numbers should be in the description so you can find them
Just picked up my 2010 legacy from the shop. Subframe was replaced. But now my power steering fluid is leaking like crazy and pump is making buzzing noises. My guess is that the shop did an awful job and i should bring it back in to get this fixed? I think there may be air bubbles in the hose(s). It is smoking up. Fluids by the resevoir and and behind the pump and alternator. Please help
Sorry to hear that - yeah it sounds like they didn’t do a great job if you didn’t have any of those issues when it went into the shop. It’s easy to damage the power steering lines when dropping or reinstalling the subframe. If the pump is running dry it could be making noise or even smoking maybe
@monumentauto no leaks and pump issue prior to bringing it in and they even did an inspection on the whole vehicle prior to replacing the subframe. Was also told no leaks whatsoever that the only issue was the rotted subframe. So for sure it was the shop that didn't do a good job when reinstalling everything back. Car is back in the shop now ugh. Waited for over 3 weeks just to get the car back and now its back in because of their flaws
with the links can you still use comfort feature?
Yes you can still raise and lower the car with off road mode and change the strut dampening with the sport and comfort modes but it will all just be lower than stock and the air pressure in the bags related to each setting will be different than stock but it will still work
@monumentauto, how’s the truck these days? How many miles now (if you still have it??
I sold it unfortunately at about 155k and I do miss it! Could maybe get another in the future haha
specs show 25 gallon fuel tank. I have the ml350 and its also 25. so right about the 7 speed tranny, a steady speed increase from a stop is smooth and predictable but the tranny has a mind of its own most other times. probably more pronounced with the v6.
What was the cost ? Can you share a link to buy it? I own a 2020 GLC 400 4matic Thanks for a great video ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I believe each one was around $60-80 usd but I don’t remember exactly. I posted all the part numbers in the description so you can find them online.
Any chance you can follow up and post the front and rear oem factory link lenghts???
Sorry I don’t know the length off the top of my head so I’d be googling it the same as you
I have the same one you have . I’m leaving it stock
Nice - it’s definitely great as stock!
Hi, when you did the air springs - did you just replace the bags or the full struts? Was that costly?
I did just the bags - much cheaper. I can’t remember exactly but rear were maybe $100 and fronts were a little more.
I got lowering links for my ml550. I extended the length about 3mm from stock and everytime the car is off it’s dropped all the way to the bottom like the bags are damaged. What do I do?? I’m about to just put the stock arms back in
Does the car sit at the correct height when it’s on or is it always too low ever since you put the lowering links on? I know it’s possible to put the lowering links on with the ride height sensor arm in the wrong position which can cause the car to not raise properly. If it was working before you installed the aftermarket links it has to be that - not a leaking air bag or bad compressor or anything. Id just triple check all the links and make sure they’re connected correctly and adjust them if it still sits too low. Good luck!
@@monumentauto I had to replace the entire bag yesterday. When I took the wheel off since the passenger side was dropped more than the driver side I saw the gasket under the bag had been blown out. The gasket wouldnt go back in as it was stretched out so I ended up replacing the entire bag. I noticed that side doesn't have the "snap ring" that helps hold the bottom gasket in so I ordered one. Thanks for your advice too. People say long term lowering mercedes will have issues. Have you encountered any issues so far?
Oh man glad you got it sorted at least. And I put mine back to stock links since I didn’t like the ride quality so I can’t comment on long term sorry
@@monumentautoI got noticeable camber when I dropped mine 1.5 inch. Did you have that too? I’ve been looking at ur 63 vids and have to say you been a long way with it. Do you still have any plans in the future with it?
@@monumentautohow did you put the stock links back on? I’m having a very hard time right now as the rubber part won’t go over the ball
looking at 2008 ml63 for 8k. 130k miles.. besides routine maintenance did you have any problems with yours?
Biggest non maintenance issue was leaking brake booster hose at the back of the engine causing it to run lean which was hard to diagnose. Rebuilding the car and over the years of owning it I did a lot to it including new air springs, coil packs, spark plugs, injectors, air filters, brakes, sway bar links, engine mounts, trans mount, new radiator, ac compressor, coolant flush, transmission fluid flush and valve body cleaning, and more. It can add up quick if you don’t do the work yourself
bottom line the amg 6.2 liter engine is there most unreliable
Did you not have to recalibrate the height sensors after this? I installed new air shocks, new air block, and new bags in the rears and cant get my 09 ml63 to sit right. Almost like it sits at the right height while parked but once i start it and drive it wants to ride about 3" too tall. Even bought a Launch X431 V elite which claims it can do recalibrations
I didn’t have to, the sensors should still read the same way and the computer is still set to have the car sit a certain height, unless the 2009 is different from the 2007 somehow I’m not sure sorry
Habe alle erneuert 2 jahre später wieder das gleiche passiert
Ready to buy one today, an 08 w 83k but It is a bit sketchy, lol I will post of I got it or not later today.
83k is nice and low! How’d it turn out?
@@monumentauto terrible was a piece of trash, never buy in Philthadelphia I broke my rule of flipping because of what it was, lesson learned lol
Damn I’ve had those moments too
Could you show how to set the passenger mirror to tilt when in reverse. I do have the manual. Thanks
Sorry I’m not sure how, and I actually don’t have the vehicle any more to be able to demonstrate on!
It's a beauty!!!
SWEET. You got a car that you fell in love with and now you have ZERO car payments. That's a win-win!!!
Thank you
I wonder if the ride would be better with the new pump and you should change the filter to keep the system working properly.
Please, tell me is it possible to remowe the cooler fan without ripping off the radiator…so there would be space enough to replace serpentine belt with pulleys and oilfilter gasket? For me it looks, that the lower legs in the frame are lying under the radiator hoses?
Sell me the old ones 😫
Sorry all gone :/
Yep that's rear SAM
Yep that's rear SAM
My wife's 2010 outbreak has the same issue. Unfortunately it would cost 10k at least at a garage. We're looking into a newer vehicle. Her's only has 126,000 on it, only thing wrong is a rusted out frame that should be a recall.
That’s tough - I agree if a rusted through subframe is the main reason a car is totaled, that’s on the manufacturer for not protecting their parts better from the factory
The part is probably $500 and if this guy can do it in a day or two in his driveway with no lift there's no excuse for a serious tech in a good shop to charge anywhere near that, it should only take them like 6-8 hours.... So even with parts marked up to $1000 plus a generous 10 hours of labor at a generous $150 an hour, that is still only $2500... Sounds to me like your mechanic just wasn't interested in doing the work, If you actually want the car fixed get a couple other quotes from different shops someone may not be as put off by what is not that bad of a job. Hell bring it to my house and Ill do it for $2500 haha
Same!! 2010, 130K mi, subframe is Swiss cheese
A very useful video, thank you!
Can you reply with wheel and tire size?

Why am I not living in the states in Germany they cost 25-40k and I read in a lot of videos in the us they got their ml63 for 10 grand or less 😭
Yep - just sold mine recently for 10k :(
@@monumentauto next time export it to Germany 😂
Dang sad your car is gone. Love the content. What’s you move onto? Not sure if I should get an 2011 with m156 or gle with m157..
Try some MIL-TEC in the Transmission.
Would be worth a shot, unfortunately sold the car recently :(
IM doing my 180,000 mile oil change on My Ml63 tonight!!! I have only used Mobile 0-40 European Formula. When I bought mine it had (and still does) have rattle from loose camshaft adjusters on startup. I tried the Liqui Moly and the engine made a horrible horrible sound when running for a few seconds on that green stuff to the point where I immediately did an engine shutdown and drained and repoured fresh Mobile. Ive had it since 162,000 miles. I love this Truck!! Still no engine issues. Although trans is starting to buck in first gear when flooring it.
Is the 4 year video on its way? 🤞
Unfortunately not! I decided to sell the car a little while ago :(
@@monumentauto fair enough, what new vehicle will you get to replace it?
I just like projects, so I’m currently working on restoring a 1997 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8t 5spd w 69k miles - should make for a fun little car when done!
Very helpful video and greatly appreciated.
Hello. Would you be able to make a video on how to remove the side molding just below the window trim on the W164? I have a 2011 ML350.
Sorry I actually sold the car a few months ago - unfortunately no more ML63 videos from me unless I get another in the future
@monumentauto why did you sell it and what did you upgrade to?
i have 08 ml 350 with 100,000 miles and i feel underpowered for the weight of the vehicle.around town mileage isn't much more than the v8 and i don't get near the performance. the tranny shifts fine if i'm keeping constant pressure on the gas from a stop but will sometimes search if i'm just cruising around, can't complain about reliabilty. engine and tranny are bulletproof but accessories will fail. i do my own work if possible and so far no trips to mechanic in the four years i've owned it
8:06 in South Africa. Very helpful. Thanks
I dont like the gas mileage but i love to step on the gas hee hee
The VIN isn't showing up in full. Do I have to pay to view it now?
Nice job!
Hello I was looking at a ml63 so that’s how i came accross your content ( which is fun to watch btw). It’s always good to see fellow enthusiasts appreciating cars from This era. would you consider buying an 07 ml63 with 170k miles for 5k? And do you have social media accounts?
Thanks! I’d consider it but I’m also not known for the most economical decisions when it comes to cars…definitely kinda high mileage but if it’s running and driving, that’s a tempting bargain given the amount of vehicle you get. If it needs a bunch of work though, you’ll put another 5k in it before you know it. You doing your own work? I think that’s the only way it’s really feasible unless you have money to burn. And I don’t have any car related social media, just UA-cam.
@@monumentauto thanks for your reply, I do my own work kinda same as you I have an A8 w12 and a cayenne gts. We were looking into this for a friend but passed on that specific one had mileage issues. Will look into other good deals. Thanks again.
Great information!
I may have missed it, but how many miles were on your car when your problems started?
Think it was about 140k miles in that video
OK thank you@@monumentauto
Should I buy one with 77k miles for 18k? Or maybe try and go for a m5 ? Same mileage but 20k same year too 2007
Interesting! Very different cars in some ways…I don’t know anything about the M5 but I guess it depends if you want SUV or sedan - they’re both powerful luxury vehicles that can be expensive to maintain but very fun and rewarding as well. Personally I’d go ML63 of course but I’m biased
Misleading topic.
Cool man..big job
Thanks! Definitely not easy especially without a lift
Did you have to add transmission fluid?
I did not have to add more - barely lost any luckily
@@monumentauto how did you prevent oil loss? I have to do mine as well… so I’m mentally preparing lol
In regard to the tailgate lever getting stuck, spray a little WD40 on the side pins while the tailgate is up. It should free up if the springs aren't stuffed. WD40 fixed mine. Could also be the SAM in the back has moisture... Great car...!!
Thanks! I had tried that initially and it helped for a while, but recently I took the latch mechanism out, took it apart, added new silicone grease and put it back together, works well now!
The tail gate not going up all the way is easily fixed in the settings incase you havint figured it out👍
Thanks! it was actually the struts being bad, couldn’t support the tailgate at its full height so I replaced those and now it’s fine
