If you had cataract surgery today, which lens or combination of lenses would you put on your eyes?
Every eye and every case is different. Choice for one patient may not suite for another.
In my case edof lens Eyhance was selected to provide far and middle vision on one eye, and edof Eyhance with +1 diopter was selected for anoyher eye to provide clear middle vision and shift clear vision even more close. As a tesult, one eye sees sharp image far than 1 meter, another eye sees sharp image from 50cm. Both eyes help each other and work together. I can use smartfone without glasses, I can easily work with computer, I have excellent stereoscopic vision and can see distany objects clearly. When working with small close objects, simple +1 glasses do the trick (also with +1 glasses I can see every pixel on the phone screen :) ). P.S. Monofocal EDOF lenses Eyhance were selected after I knew about all that negative effects of multifocal lenses (glare, stars, parasite reflections, halos etc.) that are absent in the case of (relatively) simple monofocal edof lenses.
Could you get more of these features you mentioned with the Puresee lens? Do you have information about Puresee lenses? If so, I wondered why you didn't choose it.

What did you say in 6:34 about two multi focals?
This is very helpful. I thought blended vision was the same as monovision, as that is how my surgeon used the term. I’ve watched numerous YT videos and have seen successful use of two different lenses occasionally. I don’t think I’ve seen a good video about monovision/mini-monovision. I’m looking forward to you discussing it. Thank you!

I have monofocal lens. Super distance vision 20/20 20/15 and contrast. My night driving is so clear and bright.. Age 73. All multifocal lens have issues. The monofocal lens is still the gold standard for sharpest distance vision and night vision.. Reading glasses for small print no big deal.
Cab you see computer without glasses?

Thanks for great details sir. I did my left eye surgery with SFIOL few months back , my right eye is dominant and now need to fix cataract, mr Dr advising for EDOF or Trifocal. Im age 42, please guide me. Thank you!
Very interesting video. I'm a bit puzzled as to why these lenses are widely referred to as having extended depth of focus instead of being correctly described as having extended or increased depth of field ?
What do you think about Zeiss at Lisa lenses? Thank you
Very good and informative video, addressing all the questions I had, thank you!
Dear sir . I had monofocal IOL put i my right eye 1 1/2 weeks ago. my night vision was very good in both eyes , now my right eye is worse at night but my left eye is good . I don't know what to do . Hello i would like to know better LÍO EDoF Vivity or AT LARA or differences?
Thank you for the information1. I have a question, I had cataract surgery yesterday with a monodical IOL. went well, they said. I was noticing yesterday and more today as I pay attention, that I see the OUTSIDE of the IOL, I think. It is like wearing eyeglasses with semi-clear-plastic rim, and I see the arc of the rim on the outside (left of center, about 60 degrees left of center) - when I have bright window off to the left side. (Left eye IOL.). This arc tracks with my left eye when I move eye horizontally. Is this a concern, or normal?? Is the IOL detached?? the eye doctors offices are closed until Monday morning (Friday at 3:30 pm now). Thanks for any help1
Had Sifiminiwell iol in my right eye 4 weeks ago. Had - 6.5 and +2.5 in both eyes. After surgery I feel objects are nearer in the right eye and farther in the left eye. Very whitish in the right eye and yellowish in the left. Have depth perception problem. Whether to go for same Sifi Mini well in the left eye. Please suggest.
Hello doctor. Ι have hypermetropia 1,5 and presby 3,25. My doctor says go away from multi lens He suggests monofocal clareon. He is sure for the result Perfect vision and only 1,5 for reading and no issues for Ever. Im 45 What is your opinio??? . Thanks
Hello aleksi, we are waiting for a video about Puresee iol 🫵
.Had cataract surgery 7/12/2024. I am 74. In good health. Never had to wear any glasses for distance. Only 1.75 reading glasses for computer and reading. Now I have extremely blurry vision and must wear prescription glasses for distance and near. Surgeon put in Ionuclar lense. Claimed I would be able to see again for distance without glasses. Would still need glasses for near. I realize now that they should have put in toric lense. I had 1.4 astigmatism. Now it is worse. Surgeon told me that I either have to wear glasses or get Lasik surgery. I am seeing Lasik surgeon who is monitoring eye to see when it will be stabalized for lasik surgery to correct astigmatism from cataract surgery. Should I get lasik?
I have had LAL for more than a year, but why does the distance my eyes see change? Is it not locked? After the first three months, I didn’t need to wear glasses to read. Now I can’t see without glasses. Why is this happening? can you tell me? thank you
Thank you so much for all of your videos about IOLs selection. I am in a process of watching all of them, getting ready for the pre-cataract surgery consultation in the end of September.
Somewhat uncommon astigmatism is in the lens only. In that case a non Toric lens works fine.
I am deciding what lens to get now, and I’m overwhelmed. I had lasik done about 24 years ago, and I think I’ve been told that LAL is my best choice since it is harder to get precise measurements and my myopia was pretty bad (don’t know the rx) before I had lasik done. I came across your channel, and I love the direct way you have of giving information. I know there are many variables, but am I thinking correctly, or are LALs just a very expensive choice? Thank you so much for your efforts!
thanks for a deeper and wider insight on cataract lenses
Thank you so much for your incredibly informative videos for those of us who are utterly confused! 🙏🏼 I took your online AI quiz and due to the fact that I only had a cataract due to a retinal detachment that resulted in a vitrectomy that ultimately caused my cataract. I am incredibly nearsighted and was a -6.00 OS and -7.5 OD. Based off your quiz, I decided to get the J&J Monofocal toric lens. I’m a week out from surgery and am finding it incredibly difficult to focus my vision. The thought from my doctor is that I may need to get my right eye done to focus my vision and stop the headaches. My long message is to say, could a multi focal lens be a reasonable option for my right eye? I worry because that’s my more nearsighted / longer eyeball and I wonder if a monofocal toric lens in my left eye and multifocal lens in my right eye will cause similar unbalanced issues. I just hate not being able to see up close anymore! I’m 37 years old and feel so hopeless right now… been searching far and wide and could really use some advice. Thank you again!
In my opinion, LAL should be the standard of care for cataract surgery. I had a small amount of astigmatism. Was very near sighted. Had surgery in May 2024. Had 3 adjustments. I now have Excellent intermediate and distant vision. But need to wear glasses for reading. Achieved 20/15 in both eyes. I am very happy. I have never had such good vision. I wore contacts for 60 years.
The hardest decision for me has been what should be my target refraction distance for my monofocal IOLs. I finally decided on intermediate or arms length, since it was the recommendation of my long-time optometrist. This recommendation was seconded by the opthalmolgist I selected who will be doing my surgery next month. I basically like the system of progressive lens glasses taking care of my high myopia and presbyopia through the years and will be continuing this with my new fixed focus IOLs. As an experiment, I took off my glasses now and tested what range of focus each eye has. It was shockingly bad: my right eye can focus 3" - 4" and my left eye 4.5" - 6". I don't think I will be missing that "super close" vision that myopes have when they take off their glasses, the pluses of being able to have my vision once again correctable with glasses as to be everyday functional, out weighs that.
Good point about what activities do you ENJOY doing. The person may work in an office most of the time but if they are going to be retired soon and want to be glasses free during their enjoyment activity, that may take precedence. Swimming and golfing and other sports I'd imagine would be more convenient without glasses.
I remember the first opthalmologist visit I had 3 years ago where I was considering cataract surgery or stronger glasses. After a lot of tests by technicians I was seen by the Dr who I'd never met. She spent like 5 minutes with me and turned me over to her surgery manager who gave me two pamphlets for Vivity and Panoptix to consider, and told me when the Dr could fit me in. LOL, so much more to think about as Oleksii has presented here.
Sadly the satisfaction ratings by the industry are at best misleading. This makes personel research a must. This does not mean your doctor is lieing to you but just parroting what they are told.
Thank you, I'm going out tomorrow morning to get my right eye with why adjustable lens? Plus I will get my second eye done one week later. I'm definitely looking forward to it. I can't say that I'm not nervous. I've not had many surgeries.
This was a very good explanation, and I will probably end up with one LAL lens soon as I only have a cataract on my right eye. I had Lasik surgery over 20 years ago and my eye doctor recommended the LAL lens but it is $5000 !!!
Great information 👏👏👏
Your videos are really helpful in finding out more about the different IOLs in order to decide what is best for me. Would it be possible to make a video about the J&J Tecnis Puresee, which sounds like a great lens, but as it's EDOF I don't know if near is good enough for reading? Thank you for all that you do to educate us.
I am due to decide on my IOL surgery which will take place within next two-three months. You came (your videos) about just as if God Almighty decided to make videos on this very topic. No amount of thanks will be enough ! Almighty Bless You and your folks !!!
i have -1,75 myopia in one eye, caused by surgery, with a small begining cataract from trauma, that may not develop. My other eye is 0 without cataract. If cataract develops and i have to opperate and get an iol, would i probably need to get an iol in the other eye as well, and then start wearing progressive lenses or glasses. To get a balancecd vision? My va is 1,0 / 20 /20 corrected in operated eye and 20 /20 in normal eye
Hi, having the corneal thickness of my 2 eyes at 480 microns, can I be eligible for transpKR having had a toxoplasmosis scar in the lower periphery 6 years ago pls, Is this not a contraindication to this refractive surgery at 23y? and what about wearing lenses? Thanks in advance Dr🙏
Hello Aleksi, I have improved myself a lot thanks to your wonderful videos. I am grateful to you for this. I would like to ask you a question, if you had to have cataract surgery today, would you prefer multifocal or monofocal? And what would be your brand choice?
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
I'll be getting my first eye done with Monofocal (Torics) in a week or two. I was born Myopic with my right eye about twice as myopic as my left. I'll be going with the Monofocal IOL because I've been wearing glasses for over 60 years now and don't have a problem with glasses for intermediate or close work. Besides the price, the "no glasses from far to near" IOL's have a downside...if you're outside at night or in low light these "premium" lenses transmit about 30% less light than Monofocals and are also subject to "Halo" effects.
I've been legally blind without correction for 46 years. I could not see clearly a foot from my face. I chose monofocal distance. I can see 20/20. I can handle wearing glasses for reading and computer usage.
